SeriousKeto is keto for people who are serious about cooking, but aren't dogmatic about what keto must be. It is for people who want to create low carb dishes that don't seem low carb. My recipes may be a little "dirty keto" at times -- but I always disclose it. My belief is that it's better to have a little "dirt" from time to time than to fail at the keto lifestyle by treating it as a religion.
Over the years, I've accumulated over 160 cookbooks and two massive binders filled with an additional 1200 recipes from sources such as Food & Wine magazine, Bon Appetit magazine, and websites like Serious Eats, ChefSteps, and Food52. I will be converting these recipes to make them Keto-friendly, while still maintaining what made them recipes worth making.
I'll also be providing product reviews -- from kitchen gadgets to keto-friendly food items.

I think Heavenly Fan is terrific, too.
What??? How did I not know that Donny came to town? I would have gone! I love him. I guess when I don't watch tv or see news I don't hear about these things. I saw Marie in a Christmas show a very long time ago. I would have loved to have been your third seat! 😄
Always check the "galaxian" count in your foods 😅. Great video Steve
👍
Hi Steve! I’m the woman who pointed at you and said “KZread!” while walking in line with my daughter. I do watch your channel and I promise I know your name, I was just too excited knowing I was about to see Donny 😂 I really enjoy watching your videos and hope you and your wife had a good time at the show!
💗
I never put butter on rolls because "fat is bad" - I still have to catch myself every so often.
I love your sense of humor! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and adventures!
Thanks Steve ... for your videos and for your information.
I would love to eat perfectly, but I don't. In fact, I've been consuming hefty amounts of aspartame and processed food for over 60 years and somehow I am still alive. p.s. yes you should get husband of the year award 😅
Dietary fat causes, insulin resistance do none of you people following a low-carb diet. Understand this. If you want to lose fat, don’t eat fat dietary fat gets 100% absorbed into body fat, Carbs FTW!! 💪💪💪
I would love to learn how to make some good vegan keto dishes! I just love good food!!
Yes, they have been lying to us about butter, hence why they promoted margarine...And research everything, think for yourself..
We have them in several stores here in Portland Oregon too. Super happy. Hard $8 a loaf. 😭 But that's about half of their online price per loaf
In know what you mean, there is a slight flavor that's there that I can't place either. But I've grown to love it lol
I love Hero Bread. It's top notch in the keto world in my opinion. #1 for me. I'll grab bread and just eat it by itself. 😂 I love it. The flavor, the texture, the chew, all of it is spot on for me.
😊
Your move la tortilla factory .
Well, Hero isn’t going to win on price. 😉
I usually stick with whole food ketovore when I'm on the wagon. But this review got me. I really started thinking about buttered bread, brats and Reubens. Then, the grocery store had Sola for $6.50, but buy one, get one free. Froze one "Sweet and Buttery", eating the other. Brats and buttered bread have been delicious and in no way a compromise. Unfortunately, the "Internet" ingredients and portions are now the grocery store ingredients (probably old news). I don't care. Not for this occasional splurge. This is better than the occasional "real bread" brats, where I cannot resist everything else (beer!). I'm not carb-addicted as some people seem to be, but I'm not incorruptible either. Thank you for this helpful review. Even if Sola isn't perfect ingredient- and blood sugar-wise, eaten with other foods, it tastes and feels perfect.
That’s s good price.
@@SeriousKeto And the deal turned the "resistant wheat starch" into "irresistable resistant wheat startch." ;-)
That made me LOL
You are awesome Steve!
i used to go thru that, the anxiety was high, i learned one thing cuz iv been like that for yearz! try & put ur mind on something else, think of like sitting at the beach, a peaceful environment , it works 🙂 cant wait to see u & heavenly fan, looking forward to it & ur awsome too😊
Hi Steve. I think the cashew label is bunk. You see some variation on different sites, but according to WebMD a 1-ounce serving of cashews has 165 calories, 5 gm protein, 11 gm of fat, 10 gm of carbs, < 1 gm of fiber, and "about" 2 gm of sugar. This may be TMI: According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the nutritional content can vary a lot depending on where they are grown, e.g.in India starch content ranged from 4.6 to 11.2%. END TMI. I literally laughed out loud when you talked about how you have changed your fat mentality. I am totally with you!! I have gone from being a fat-phobe to a fat-lover, and my body thanks me every day. As an RN, I have to be very careful not to run afoul of traditional medical and dietary practices when teaching patients about good nutrition. It makes me very sad that I can't freely teach my nursing students or patients the research-based information I have learned. Thank you for introducing me to Heavenly Fan. Her explanation of how she knows she is in ketosis was enlightening. Thanks for another great video!
You can do it Steve! I am 60 and have maintained fairly easily my dream goal weight since about 3 years (2021) I weigh less now than in high school. Counting total carbs has helped me I believe.
My mom had a stroke at age 59 - I completely relate. Just turned 60 and working on my best health as well!
Always look forward to a Serious Keto video! I was thinking of you yesterday Steve. I was reaching back in my pantry and pulled out a packet of chocolate Keto Chow that I didn't remember having. You're the one who informed me about Keto Chow, and their HQ is only about 10 miles from where I live. 😂 I doubt I'd have heard of them if it weren't for you and this channel.
Fun fact I ate a 1/4 stick of butter Just before watching 😎🧈
Victory
I love your channel.
I like ChocZero, good products. Never kicked me out of ketosis using them even when I splurged and made a bunch of desserts I wouldn't normally make because it was my birthday and I wanted a few treats over a weekend. A 400 "spike" seems ridiculous, probably on the verge of statistical anomaly. I doubt this post was accurate or true. 40, that seems like a number that could occur in some people. I hate post like that one. Here's my take, if you don't like the product.....don't buy it. As for me, I'll be buying a huge bag of dark chocolate chips from ChocZero, yummy,
Good advice to us ingredient police. You'll never change someone's mind about food or politics by making them feel like a major league a holer, or being one yourself. There's that old saying, You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.
I'm between an INFP and INFJ. Everyone except for my sister drains my energy. Even Lee and our son Daniel drains my energy. I need alone time to recharge. I'm more comfortable in groups of six or less people. In large crowds, I focus on my companions or on my portable hobbies while I wait for the event. I can't be healthier or fitter until I get a place for the three of us. They use seed oils and margarine here. I have no space to swing my kettlebells. Half of my things are on the porch. I like to go for walks/hikes but not in the Summer. I am prone to heat rashes in my cleavage and heat exhaustion.
Fat is your Friend! That's my motto! 😋
Great video Steve! As I grab my cashews. 😋 I especially enjoy the raw, organic cashews that I buy at Costco, that I haven't seen in a few months now, it's probably for the best, it's hard for me to stop eating them. I've decided they are best in moderation for me, but I've got "issues", hypothyroidism, so it's not just about carbs for me. I've gotta think: thyroid, diabetes, aka sugar diabetes (that's what it was called when I was growing up) Fatty liver, not to mention a fatty belly and fatty arse, Inflammation, etc.
I follow the Keto Twins group on FB, closed group, moderated by Sarah. No drama, no keto police 🚓
I’ve thought about a private group but managing KZread is already a full time job. 😉
Great video Steve
I haven't found Hero yet but I'm really intrigued! So happy to hear about their change to olive oil ( for you!) and that the carb response is really good for those of us doing Keto! Another great video, Steve!!
Heavenly fan is awesome, that'll be cool to hear the interview
A 28-gram serving of unroasted cashews typically contains around 1.6 grams of sugar. This can vary slightly depending on the specific brand or source, but 1.6 grams is a good average estimate. So you got me?
I suspect it’s just an error in packaging and nothing sinister.
@@SeriousKeto I started looking at other brands that are similar and none of there math adds up Example: Nutrition Facts Portion Size 30 g Amount Per Portion 160 Calories % Daily Value * Total Fat 14g 18 % Saturated Fat 3g 15 % Sodium 5.1mg 0 % Total Carbohydrate 9g 3 % Dietary Fiber 1g 4 % Sugar 2g Protein 5g 10 % To verify if the provided nutrition information adds up correctly, we can check the caloric contributions from fats, carbohydrates, and protein. The standard caloric values are: • 1 gram of fat provides 9 calories • 1 gram of carbohydrate provides 4 calories • 1 gram of protein provides 4 calories Let’s calculate the total calories from each macronutrient: 1. Calories from Fat: 14 \text{ g} \times 9 \text{ cal/g} = 126 \text{ cal} 2. Calories from Carbohydrates: 9 \text{ g} \times 4 \text{ cal/g} = 36 \text{ cal} 3. Calories from Protein: 5 \text{ g} \times 4 \text{ cal/g} = 20 \text{ cal} Now, let’s add these values together: 126 \text{ cal} + 36 \text{ cal} + 20 \text{ cal} = 182 \text{ cal} According to this calculation, the total should be 182 calories, not 160 calories as stated. The provided nutrition information appears to have a discrepancy. Thus, the nutrition information provided does not seem to add up correctly.
Given that the only ingredient is unroasted cashews, the discrepancy is likely due to rounding and labeling practices. Here’s a more detailed breakdown: 1. Rounding Regulations: The FDA allows for rounding of nutritional values. For instance, calories can be rounded to the nearest 5 or 10 calories, which could lead to a lower stated caloric value than the exact calculated amount. 2. Caloric Rounding Example: • If the exact calculation yields 182 calories, manufacturers might round this down to 180 or even 160 calories depending on the rounding rules applied. 3. Standard Variability in Natural Products: • The nutrient composition of natural products like cashews can vary slightly between batches due to differences in growing conditions, size, and moisture content. 4. Label Simplification: • To keep the label simple and within regulatory guidelines, manufacturers may report rounded or averaged values that don’t exactly match precise calculations. Despite these potential explanations, the typical practice should result in a close approximation. Given this, the rounding likely accounts for most of the discrepancy here. Here’s a breakdown of the potential actual caloric values given the macronutrient content: 1. Total Fat: • 14g fat × 9 cal/g = 126 calories 2. Total Carbohydrate: • 9g carbs × 4 cal/g = 36 calories 3. Protein: • 5g protein × 4 cal/g = 20 calories Summing these gives: 126 \text{ cal} + 36 \text{ cal} + 20 \text{ cal} = 182 \text{ cal} But if we round this, for example: • Rounding 182 to 180 or to 160 based on specific labeling rules. Given the standard nutritional labeling regulations and the rounding practices allowed, the stated value of 160 calories on the label can be consistent with regulatory guidelines even if it does not precisely match the calculated value. This practice helps standardize nutrition labels but can lead to the discrepancies you’ve noticed.
Never knew you had another channel…thanks for mentioning it.
I avoid downtown Milwaukee like the plague for many reasons lol, I haven't even been to a Brewers game in years and that's about as close to Downtown as I wanna get.
It’s been at probably 15 years since I went to a Brewer game. Fun fact: I was a public relations intern for the Brewers while going to Marquette (this would have been ‘88 or ‘89.
I’m so glad Lean Body Mind is back! I’ve been waiting. I saw the Osmonds when Maria was just starting out, it was so much fun. I actually didn’t know Donny was still doing shows. Here’s to your healthiest year! 🥂
Great podcast today. Thanks for the LOLs!
Look forward every week for your take on things with the podcast along with recipes. Regarding comments with recipes and items you mentioned, if I were going to comment, would begin with “ in my experience…” or “ this ingredient affected me…”.
Oh my goodness, Steve. I am an INFP but didn't know the HSP label until you described how you feel in a restaurant when you can hear every conversation in the room, etc. I smell what others don't too. I'll have to look into it further. Entertaining podcast. Thanks.
Thanks KZread guy!
Thanks Steve from Serious Keto.
You are so right about the toxic comments. My issues aren't the keto posts, its people attacking my biblical dogma. I'm to old to get riled up about either, but it keeps me from sharing my FB page.
I hear ya, Steve. Total mind-shift from fat-fearing to fat-embracing. 155 lbs lost and loving fatty ketovore all the way down the scale!
Heavenly Fan is great, I and many others are dairy intolerant, therefore her dairy free keto recipes are useful. Also both her and Dr Jason Fung use dried bean and tofu recipes which most keto people say is a nono, but obviously then stops all vegetarians from being able to follow a keto diet. She is really interesting.
Steve ~ I am not getting your notifications which is driving this INFJ VIRGO bonkers (short drive mind you these days). Someone told me to unsubscribe for a week and then reset everything. Thoughts? Warmest regards, Deanna
I've heard that unsubscribing, resubscribing, then checking notifications can work.
Mine is crispy chicken skins…..used to avoid them now I love them
