    Hey. I noticed that NYJC does not reveal their subject combinations and only the subjects they are offering are revealed. So, is it a free subject combination or will there be a list that is only distributed to the students?

  • @sharenun2620
    @sharenun26203 жыл бұрын

    Hi! Their subject combinations are pretty flexible. There isn't a list only distributed to students. During the open house, you should visit NYJC! You can find out more and ask the teachers and student directly. I would say the subject combinations available are pretty much similar to other JCs!

    Hi, I'm from nyjc, to answer ur qns, do a lot of practices (tys, diff school papers etc.)-especially for mcq(sciences) and make sure u fully understand all the concepts so u can apply for higher order thinking qns(if it comes out in olevels). For ss, u must know how to apply the techniques taught and make sure u infer correctly and align with the provenance, dates,publisher etc are very critical when making inferences. Make sure to read between the lines and not make sweeping statements such as sacarsm etc! For math, practice, practice and practice. Hope this helps:))

  • @vivianwg3313
    @vivianwg33134 жыл бұрын

    @@sarahlee2598 I didn't really mug very hard because I have always been rather consistent in my work and revision so I didn't have to cram info in my head nearer to olevels. In fact I tried to sleep early as much as possible so that my body is working optimally. But at the end of the day I think different ppl have diff studying styles, some of my friends said they mugged one day before the papers and they ended up getting A. But I definitely do not encourage this because it gives u anxiety on the day of olevels. For these 3mths, u just have to allocate equal time for all your subjects and do practices. But something I have learnt is to internalise the concepts, questions not just blindly doing practices. Take note of key answers required in questions(especially for sciences). Things that u can prepare beforehand pls do so( such as comparison qns, if u take bio) and for for practical make sure u have went through the different topics and planning etc. It is good to watch KZread videos on science experiments. Just be calm and confident with ur revision and u will do great! Don't worry if u were to make careless mistakes because I myself also made careless mistakes during o level.

    Hii! I'm an Indonesian who's gonna take O levels on June 2021. If you don't mind, can you please give me some explaination about whether additional mathematics is needed to be able to go into JCs or just the usual math in O levels are enough? Thank you

  • @sharenun2620
    @sharenun26204 жыл бұрын

    Hi! I think this is based on what u intend to study in JC! There are a few subjects like h2 math and further math in jc that requires u to have taken additional math. You dont HAVE to take additional math to enter JC but id say its good to take it because it opens up the subject combi choices u can take in JC. In the end, u should research more into what u want to study in JC and check the requirements needed for the subject combi u want in JC! Ultimately i would def recommend u to take additional math regardless of subject combi in JC because it is a good gauge of whether you can grasp concepts and study well. Most people i know in my JC did take additional math. ATB for Os!!!

    hey, im a singaporean student taking my o’levels this year, and id rlly like to thank you for sharing your vids on here :) they’re so pretty and well-made and rlly inspire me to study hard to have an ideal next few years! iI am kinda struggling with the decision making for education after secondary sch, and id rlly appreciate it if you can give me some advice :’’ or clarify the many qns i have on subj combination in jc i was wondering how subject combinations work? I understand from my research that in most jcs, i will have to choose 4 subjs (4h2 or 3h2+1h1) of which 1 subj must be from the contrasting stream but how much freedom do i have in subj selection? i am someone who has never been strong in math, so is it possible for me not to take it?I am interested in humanities and english language subjects as well as bio, so it wld be a dream if i cld take a related subj combi! but is bio considered a contrasting subj for my arts subj combi? is it possible that my subj combi consists of subjs like eng, geo and bio only? is chi considered one of the 4 subjs in my subj combi? Also, are ki and ell considered subjects? tysm for reading through :D i'd truly be grateful for anything you can fill me in on!

  • @sharenun2620
    @sharenun26204 жыл бұрын

    dawn tan Hi!! Hope I can help with this. You pretty much have freedom in choosing any subjects as long as you choose one contrasting subject. The contrasting subject is one from a different stream (there are two streams, art stream: 3 art 1 sci and science stream: 3 sci 1 art. You choose the stream when you send in your choice of schools you want to to enter. Some schools have a hybrid stream where u can choose 2 Sci and 2art, u have to see which school offers that combi) subjects like history, literature, econs and translation is under art stream. Science stream includes the three sciences plus math. You will usually get every subject you choose provided u follow the rules AND the school has that Combi (you’d have to research on that) It is possible for you to not take math, however u have to consider what u want to study in uni because many courses in Uni require u to take Alevel math in jc. Your jc subject combi does affect what u can study in Uni. PLUS some JCs require u to take math as a subject (so u also have to check which JCs allow u to not take math). I would say many wouldn’t advise on skipping out on math in JC. Since bio is considered a contrasting subject for the artstream, u can take it as your only science. Your h1 can be any of the 4 subjects, even the contrasting subject. If you took higher Chinese in secondary school, you don’t have to take Chinese in JC. However if you do worse than a D7 for higher Chinese O levels or you did not take higher Chinese, you HAVE to take Chinese (or wtv your MTL is) in JC. Mother tongue in JC is NOT considered in the four subjects u choose. There isn’t really a subject called “English” like we do in sec school. Rather we have GP(general paper) or KI(Knowledge and inquiry). Every student has to take either one. I’m not sure about KI because I did not take it, but for GP you could see it as “English” like in Sec school, it essentially i guess. Not all schools offer both KI and GP to choose from so u have to see which school offers KI and which offers GP. (NYJC for instance does not offer KI so everyone takes GP) This subject however is NOT considered under the 4 subjects u choose since everyone has to take it on top of the 4 subjects. If you are interested in English language, you could take literature or English Language and Linguistics as one of the 4 subjects u choose. Apart from the four subjects plus Chinese plus GP/KI EVERY student has to take PW. PW is project work, the notorious subj everyone hates. In the end, everyone takes the 4 subjects that u choose + GP/KI (H1) + PW (H1) + MT* (H1, if u need to take mother tongue) Let me know if u have any other questions! Sorry for the lengthy reply, it can be pretty confusing and difficult to explain. Plus there are many exceptions depending on which JC. You’d have to search up on many of the things I mentioned too! ATB for O levels !!
