    I've been partial to Michelins on a car like this. they tend to be very quiet, well made tires. I've had good results from them. I also like Cooper tires. Similar results. That's what I have on it now.

    Bought the luxury pkg version es300h last yr 2023 love the car super super smooth and a joy to drive long trips. Be prepared to throw away the OEM Bridgestone tires though and spend another 1600 for Goodyear Assurance or Michelin Premier. The Bridgestone tires are simply awful.

    What are the common engine problems with this setup? Head gasket? Timing chain guides? Any reason to be afraid of buying one close to 200,000 miles as-is with a basic mechanic inspection? What happens when the hybrid battery goes? -- What can leave me stranded?

  • @caraddict829

    These cars don't have many issues overall. That said, any car with 200K miles could have a problem. You need to have it gone over by a trusted mechanic. Even then, it is a roll of the dice to some degree. I'm assuming there is no service history with this car? Did you look at a Carfax report to see if there is service history there?

    apparently the water pump can go out after many years and about 150k miles but at this point and age it's normal that some parts like a head gasket or the battery needs to be replaced. the good thing about toyota/lexus hybrids is that you can still drive with the engine after the battery goes but with horrible gas mileage

    @caraddict829Ай бұрын

    @@caraddict829 One more question if you don't mind. Is the ES300h noiser or quieter than the ES350? I have a 2018 ES350 and a quiet and smooth ride is a major plus for me. I'm thinking of getting a 2024 or 2025 ES.

  • @caraddict829
    @caraddict829Ай бұрын

    @@sktoh4469 In my opinion the ES350 is quieter. It doesn't have the hybrid system, which does make some noise, and the 4 cylinder in the ES300h is a little buzzy. It also has to work a lot harder, so you have to push it more than you would the V6. The new V6 makes even more power than it did in 2015, so it wouldn't need to work that hard to move the car.

    Hi dear I have an es 300 h 2020 lexus dealer telling me that to keep the warranty you need to service with us, which is far too expensive your battery keeps the warranty up to 15 years. Do I have to take this into consideration? So how often do you clean hybrid filters. Thanks 👍

  • @caraddict829
    @caraddict829Ай бұрын

    The warranty on the hybrid system is 10 yrs or 150K, whichever comes first. You should call Lexus directly (not the dealer) about whether servicing the car at a non-lexus dealer can void the warranty. That is possible, but they should be the ones to have the final word on that. As far as hybrid filters, I'm not sure what you're referring to . They don't have them. My car has no service recommendations for the hybrid system. If a Lexus dealer is telling you you need to service that you should ask Lexus about that as well. The books for mine have no such recommendation, and in 120K of my driving on the car my dealer has never recommended anything for the hybrid system. You shouldn't have to do anything there.

  • @caraddict829

    It could be a daily driver but I wouldn't recommend it from a servicing standpoint. It would need more servicing than you would be used to from a normal daily driver. With the age of this gen SL things will go bad from increased use that will be costly, potentially. The fuel mileage wouldn't be any worse than most SUVs these days but the other repairs that may come up that will cost you.

    @@caraddict829 Yes - I used My Lexus portal to access the service history. There aren't any records of oil change, but perhaps they were doing it elsewhere, and only came to a dealership when they had a problem. In 2020, at 67k miles, they had the following record - does it mean that the actual battery was replaced? not sure what "hybrid pack" means. "OPEN CIRCUIT IN HYBRID BATTERY CAUSING DISCHARGE TO BATTERY PACK CASE 201560198 CODE POA80 REPLACE BATTERY HYBRID PACK ~|~REPLACED BYBRID PACK RESET CODES AND TEST DROVE TO CONFIRM OPERATING AS DESGINED CLOSED TAS CASE" I guess what concerns me most about the service history is that the last record was made in Sep '21 - a 70k mile service @74k miles on the odometer. After that, nothing, although the car has been driven another 10k miles since. I just hope they didn't completely stop changing oil. :)

The plugs should not need to be replaced until 120,000 miles. It should not need a tune up at that mileage. If it keeps doing it consistently you should have Lexus look at it. Could even be a motor mount, though that is doubtful.
