  Living in UK. This is bizarre to me. Why wouldn't you rehydrate fully in the restaurant? And to-go cups are really bad for the environment anyway. Ask for a water bottle to be refilled? Fine

  I'm from Georgia and I know the Dixie line is the line from north to south and that starts around Kentucky so in my opinion anything that has the word north in it is not Southern so North Carolina it's a southern state so your North Carolina and friends do it and they're they're from the north. But yeah I'll get a free drink if I can

  I live in the midwest, I've had many servers offer a drink to go. I've asked a handful of times, all successfully, but I definitely experience more offers than me asking. I only drink unsweetened tea or water, they've even offered a to go cup with water. Offering to get me tea to go is definitely a way to get a bigger tip, I left a girl a $10 tip for a $15 lunch for it last week. The first I ever saw this was in 2010 in Pennsylvania. A drink to go at a sit down restaurant would have never crossed my mind. But my friend was a waitress at a restaurant. We would eat there on her days off all the time because 1) she got a 50% discount she shared 2) she had a crush on her manager and wanted to spy on him (and she's now been married to him for over 10 years lol). She would ask for to go drinks for both of us, and that's how I learned this is a thing.

  Not a Southern thing at all. It is a service thing. I am in Indiana, and wait staff ask us if we want drinks to go all the time. We don't even have to ask for it.
