Didn’t know they had stereo Beta VCRs in Japan by 1979, they started broadcasting TV in stereo then also. Glad I have a machine that can play linear stereo, hope to find some recordings on beta from Japanese TV.

I used to be Chip's engineer when I worked at WRKO back in the early '70's. I remember he wanted me to play Wedding Bell Blues the night I had to run back to Los Angeles to get married. He came over to my apartment to have Thanksgiving dinner prepared by my new wife and he survived the meal! Fun times for sure

Are there any other Beta's similar in appearance to the Sony SL-HF1000D? I happened to be watching an old VHS recording from around 1992 yesterday. The video was recorded in the Portland, Oregon area. There was a commercial for the Sony store. They showed a VCR that looked very similar to that one. They didn't say whether it was a Beta or VHS. I paused the video to get a better look. Unfortunately, the recording was in EP so I still couldn't tell for sure.

I had just scored my first apartment on City Park Avenue in German Village. Watching your video, I frequented a place on High Street called the Souvlaki Palace. George made the best gyros in the city. It was located just south of the Huntington Bank. So I think it’s the store with the blue awnings. Such a carefree time.
