Love your analysis. Have 1 thing to point out though. You mention that Marcus never states his view on an afterlife, but he mentions in book 2 that death is the act of the compounds in our bodies returning to their natural elements (not verbatim but something along those lines). I believe that he's stating here that he does not believe in an afterlife in an idealistic sense; but rather takes a naturalistic stance that we are broken back down into our natural material/metaphysical essence in order to become the building blocks for new life. Thanks for these videos !

@@babylax9966 He does not believe in one or the other particularly. He's very agnostic in that sense, which lines up with the stoic belief system of not worrying or thinking too much about what comes after death because it truly makes no difference how much you think about it, the outcome will be the same. One thing to keep in mind as well is that Marcus Aurelius was a very pious man. He believed in the gods of ancient Rome and spoke fairly certainly of them as well (Book I verse 17, Book II verse 11 etc.). If anything, I'd more readily assume that he believes in the afterlife in the metaphysical sense as opposed to the naturalist sense. I believe when he says things like 'death is but a process of nature', he's talking more about the physical sense of dying in the physical world rather than the metaphysical world.
