    Almost every fire house on long Island has a siren . Some depts don't use them anymore .people claimed noise pollution ,so some depts caved in .even that they moved in way after the sirens were installed .most sirens still sound off for lunch.

    I do recall that all the fire houses had them and that, when I was growing up on the Island, they tested them or blared them out all the time. Since I've been back I've heard them very rarely.

    Langer’s almost closed in the early 1990’s as the once fashionable area around 7th and Alvarado became more and more run-down, and drug and crime-ridden. Right about that time, the Red Line subway extended along Wishire Blvd from Downtown L.A. There was a stop just a block from Langer’s and the sudden influx of workers from Downtown to Langer’s (including me and a lot of people I worked with) led to a resurgence of profitability.

    Thank you for keeping Langers open :P When I first moved to Los Angeles in the 90s the guy I worked for took me to all the old school joints, one of which was Langers. I've only gone there twice since, including the time in this video, but all three times were memorable.

    From what I've been told, the H.O.R. Si-rex(which can also be called just "Sirex") in Masapequa was a former single-headed SUPER-Sirex which could rotate on its own. When the rotator on it broke, they gave it a custom shroud and made it omnidirectional. There's another one that's painted red which was converted ALSO in Masapequa. Both are 7/10 port, which is pretty rare these days. If you want to listen to one there are videos of these two, or you could look at videos of the last single-headed Super Sirex which is in Hamilton, OH. However, that one hasn't been working well the last few months.

    Federal signal is definitely still making sirens. The real difference between the model 5 and model 7 is hp of the motor. That’s really the only difference. The one that you thought was new could’ve been refurbished or repainted recently.

  • @armoturo5346
    @armoturo53467 күн бұрын

    The siren in the beginning can be both a Model 5 or 7. The housing proportions can tell you the size of the rotor in the siren. For that one, it's the largest size, 18" diameter rotor. They offered 5 and 7.5 horsepower motors, so either guess could be right! Nice to see another siren walk!

    for the Sentry 3V8, the motor is inside the top part (which explains why its closed), the bottom part is open so the air can get into the rotor in the middle. and FS (Federal Signal) is still making sirens to this day, but not the older ones, they make very modern ones such as the 2001s, the 508 at the modulators. also, did you know i film french sirens ? thats right, im a true french siren enthusiast, i even know the model of most of them, so if anyones intrested in french air raid sirens, my channel is for you, i have not uploaded in two months because of two siren fails in a row (second one was because the test got cancelled by the olympics), so next month i should be uploading a new video (unless it fails again :/).

    @@DayTrippingAdventurer It's the big mushroom-looking thing on the roof of the building. And yes that's exactly how it's like, it took me a little under 3 hours to go from Brussels, Belgium, to Aachen, Germany. And I didn't even take the high speed train (because it's way too expensive for me), I took the regular express train to a city close to the border, then a regional train that went there via Maastricht in the Netherlands (so I technically went to 3 different countries that day, I just didn't stay in the Netherlands, I just took advantage of the long stopping time there to quickly take a few photos around the station then went straight back inside the train)

    Regarding the sirens in Cencal: Fresno has quite the system of old SD-10s, and the Air National Guard base at KFAT also has a system of Federal Signal DSAs and Modulators if you are willing to check that out. They also have an old GCS Model 2 that’s inactive. PS- Central California is a huge conglomerate of random sirens (some of which are actually pretty rare) that all the small towns have for some reason, lol

    The early sd10’s had only chicken wire covering the stator rotor combo. Later sd10’s had sheet metal covers added around the stator to help deflect the sound to the upper and lower sheet metal projectors to supposedly help the sound carry further. I think it would sound better with just the chicken wire only but that’s just my opinion. Gonna miss your LA siren walks,sad that you’re moving. Best wishes!!!
