    What confuses me. I have a Roland RDH-120 on my Efnote, which I bought in a bundle with the Efnote 5 from the dealer. So that should work in conjunction with the Efnote, right? Unfortunately, I still can't get the trigger to work. Could you please explain step by step how to set this up with a "normal" pedal? Thaaaanks!

    Yes, the kick mallet should be a rounded, smooth plastic side with no edges. Felt tears through mesh's woven fibers.

    it's the same mounting as the EFNOTE 5, and is simpler because it doesn't have a height adjustment. Just needs to have the kick pedal totally centered on the mounting plate. To test this, when you do your last turn of your pedal's wing nut, if it is centered, the base of the pedal will not tilt at all to the left or right, but will be solid on the floor.

    I have the same choke issues another user mentioned here in the comments, too - I can choke the crash and ride cymbals using the “lower choke threshold” and “single choke mode” functions in Superior Drummer 3, but I can’t choke splashes and chinas if I put those on the rims of those same cymbals, and in Superior Drummer 2, I can’t choke at all, which I could do on Roland. Aside from that, my bass drum has double-triggering issues, specifically when playing with the right foot (specifically with Superior Drummer, not so much with the built-in module sounds). Messing with the threshold, sensitivity, and/or velocity curve in the Efnote 3X drum module does not prevent this. I’ve been using the same Superior Drummer 3 preset (with layered one-shot samples on the bass drum and a Tama Speed Cobra double-bass pedal) on my old Roland TD-9 without problems. If I briefly had double-triggering issues on the Roland TD-9, the options available in the module menu allowed me to fix those. Not so for the Efnote 3X. Aside from the module, the main difference is that the Efnote 3X has a mesh-head bass drum with a beater patch, whereas the Roland TD-9 had a bass drum more reminiscent of the Efnote 3 (softer, smaller, only containing a single trigger). Any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Can I boost the MIDI velocity of the aftertouch signals somehow (it’s at velocity 48, rather than 127)? Choking the cymbals does not work with Superior Drummer 2, and only partially works with Superior Drummer 3, using the “lower choke threshold” function in that program. Partially choking means that sounds on the cymbal edges can only be choked if they’re the same cymbal type as on the bow, i.e. both crash or both ride; when you have a crash sound on the bow and a splash or china on the edge, you can choke the crash sound, but not the splash or china. Worse, since Superior Drummer 2 doesn’t have the “lower choke threshold” function yet, I can’t use my old Superior Drummer 2 presets at all anymore (they can’t be opened in Superior Drummer 3). Will there be a software update for the Efnote 3X drum module that adjusts the MIDI aftertouch velocity, and or allows for manual adjustment of this parameter? Or do I have to upgrade the module for that?

  • @metalvisionsongcontest7055

    Hi, I’m having double-triggering issues on the bass drum when playing the Efnote 3X with Toontrack’s Superior Drummer. Specifically, when playing with the right foot of my double-bass pedal (Tama Speed Cobra), less so when playing with the left foot. Using the Speed Cobra and Superior Drummer with my previous Roland TD-9 did not lead to double-triggering issues. The Efnote 3X module does not seem to have “Mask Time” or “Retrigger Cancel” parameters to prevent double triggers - only Threshold and Sensitivity, and changing those doesn’t prevent my double-triggering issues; it only makes the regular, intended bass-drum notes harder to play. What would you recommend? Swapping out the beater? The pedal? Swapping out the bassdrum pad for that of the old Efnote 3? Does this issue arise from the increased rebound with a mesh head kick drum, compared to a “softer” bass drum pad like the Efnote 3 and the Roland TD-9 has it?

  • @ArtesiaProNorthAmerica
    @ArtesiaProNorthAmerica18 күн бұрын

    Thanks for your question. EFNOTE does not have mask time (which is a gate), and are super sensitive, like an acoustic kick. Are you using your provided EFD-KBP2 Kick Beater Patches? AS a player, I'd say you'd want to commit to either playing off the head or into the head (burying the beater). If you feel that you are sufficiently burying the beater with enough pressure to stop the rebound, and that you are experiencing double-triggering, please make a short video with both a visual/audial example and email it to [email protected] and we can help you out. Also, feel free to reach out by email with any questions. Thanks

    @@ArtesiaProNorthAmerica Hi, thanks for your response! The double-triggering issues have gotten better after I slightly adjusted the bass-drum stands. So I assume it was primarily a mechanical reason was causing the double triggers with Superior Drummer, especially with the drumset standing on a drum riser platform. I noticed when simply lifting the bass drum and putting it back on the ground with a little bit of force caused a note to trigger, too. Perhaps the bass drum pad was also shaking against the beater (when I tried to bury the beater) - rather than the beater bouncing and vibrating against the mesh head. Yes, I’ve been using the kick-pad patch the entire time - it came pre-attached to the bass drum pad of the Efnote 3X. The thing I did to reduce the double-triggering problems was to extend the spikes in the feet of the bass drum a little further, so that they dig more into the felt cover and the wood of the drum riser - especially on the right side, given I noticed it was primarily the right bass drum pedal (of my double pedal) that led to double triggers more frequently. All of this strengthens the hypothesis of a mechanical reason, rather than a trigger or software reason. It’s still a somewhat loose construction, given that the two feet of the Efnote 3X bass-drum pad are merely inserted into the holes on the sides, with the two winged screws not even really holding them in space if you lift up the bass-drum. I don’t know what the standing stability of the bass drum pads on the other Efnote models looks like (say, Efnote 3, with its slightly smaller bass drum pad, which also only seems to have a single trigger, where the Efnote 3X bass drum pad has two).

    @@metalvisionsongcontest7055 I see, glad that improved it! Yes, depending on the environment, the spurs should come all the way out with the rubber knobs locked against the metal nut so they do not move down the thread. Also, very important is that the kick pedal is exactly centered, meaning when tyou tighten the wing nut on the pedal all the way down, it does not lift the pedal at all, not even a centimeter in the last turn of the wing nut. This will make the 3X kick absolutely rock solid. It's how I have it in this video. kzread.info/dash/bejne/i45ktrecaMzZhrQ.html

    @@ArtesiaProNorthAmerica Thanks for the additional tips! 😉 The clamp of the bass-drum pedal lifting the bass drum when too tight is a problem I was already familiar with from Roland, so I paid attention to avoiding that one. Indeed I also centred the beaters more during the adjustment that fixed the problem, because I figured if one beater hits further away from the centre of the pad, this might create a larger leverage, causing the pad to swing more against the beater and perhaps create double triggers that way.

    Hi Mike, there could be multiple reasons for this, but it sounds like you might not have the Line out 1&2 on the MAIN Bus, which takes away whatever ambience settings you have set on each kit.

    Is there any adjustability on the riser for the 5 and the mini? I've watched a ton of videos for both kits and it seems like the bass drums really like to wobble. I also noticed, when looking overhead, the bass drum pedal is set much further back than normal due to the riser. I'm very strongly considering getting a 5 or a mini but this stood out to me and I don't have anywhere to play one in person.

    Can I increase the velocity of the aftertouch signal for the choke via MIDI somehow (on an Efnote 3X)? The default aftertouch velocity is at 48, rather than 127. This is what causes the cymbal choke to fail with Superior Drummer 2. Superior Drummer 3 can lower the choke threshold, but it only works for ride and crash, not if I put a splash or china on the edges of those same cymbals.
