Hey - my eyes are up here!
But a tremendous video! Great job - amazing how well you convey the information. Better than anyone else!
Great video, but s*** fish. Why do people put if catching such a silly fish
Thank you🧑🏼🦲🐟
Maybe easier to visualize your concepts, down stream especially,if you could be on the other side of the river. The presentation and information shared was great ! Thank you 👍🐟
I am a 30 yr., USARMY RET. DISABLED COMBAT VET, FROM 3 WARS AND 4 COMBAT TOURS WHERE I WAS ALSO INJURED, IN MY LAST 3 BAGHDAD TOURS, WHERE I LOST MY COMMANDER , SOLDIERS AND TOO MANY COALITION FRIENDS. I HAVE BEEN INVOLVING IN OR PROJECT HEALING WATERS IN OUR CHARLOTTE CHAPTER SINCE 2008. MOST OF OUR TRIPS HAVE BEEN IN NC AND TNN. I LEARNED ALOT FROM BEING ON THE WATER, BUT I KNOW I HAVE MISSED SO MANY HITS. I HAVE READ A LOT OF BOOKS ON EURO NYMPHING, INCLUDING VIDEOS. I KNOW THERE IS SO MUCH I WANT BE GOOD AT EURO NYMPHING ESPECIALLY DETECTING STRIKES. AFTER 9 OPERATIONS I HAVE SOME CHALLENGES, BUT I AM VERY STUBBORN. I AM NOW PREPARING FOR MY FIRST TRIP SINCE COVID, SO I AM GOING THROUGH YOUR WONDERFUL VIDEOS AS A REFRESHER. I AM WORKING THROUGH AS MANY EURO VIDEOS AND BOOKS THAT I CAN. YOUR VIDEOS ARE SO HELPFUL. I AM ALSO 31 YEARS RETIRED FROM TEACHING. STRIKE DETECTION IS GOING TO BE MY BIG CHALLENGE. I ALWAYS RELEASE MY FISH AS CAREFULLY AS I HAVE LEARNED. OUR RIVER UP IN TN HOLD SOME VERY LARGE FISH, BUT SO FAR 20" HAS BEEN MY LARGEST, AND MY RARE 6 POUND BROOKIE IS MY LARGEST OF THAT SPECIE. YOUR INFORMATION ON USING HEAVIER FLIES TO GET A BETTER FEEL IN FAST WATER HAS BEEN ANOTHER CHALLENGE, THANK YOU, MSG LEUM
That coarse dubbing go back to tying dry flys and experiment with a dubbing loop might make it a little easier I don’t know but great fly. New to euro so it’s an experience.
Man that’s so cool to hear that was your first fish on a fly YOU tied. I know the feeling. Amazing! So fun.
Awesome keep it up
Im curious if i can make this with ice dubbing as ive got pink estaz but not green, only green chenille. And idk how we lived before solarez. I love bone dry but im only about six months into my tying journey, and I've not learned how to avoid a kinda cloudy effect in my uv resin wing cases
In NE Ohio we get big numbers into the rivers starting in October, while you can get into them as well as you can in late winter/early spring and we start really hitting it in the fall, generally speaking the run is best in february and March. That being said, I've had buddies killing them on spawn bags or egg flies early as october despite our strains not being early spawning. And Dammit, ive got chenille in that green color but not eztaz.
How does it work… is there something u drop into the water for it to pick up the fish??
my double rig gets tangles so much just like that rig how do i stop that?😊
Double fly rigs usually get tangled up due to the casting motion. If you try to keep a somewhat of an oval pattern when casting the flies they do not get tangled up. The only time I get tangled is when I set the hook on a fish or it comes off the bottom and starts flying out of the water toward a tree and I quickly whip the rod down... that almost always ends up in a tangle which is utterly annoying to deal with!
Love your content
Thank you! I hope yo have found the rest of the euro nymphing series. If not it is linked in this video.
Great channel
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying it!
Thanks to you and your buddy for taking credit for the Pats Rubbeleg or the Girdle Bug. Real high class turds you and your buddy are. p Perhaps your next pattern could be self describing. 'The Worthless Turd.'
Thanks?! Lol. Call it what you want... they catch fish and we're helping people learn to tie.
@WhiteDogTrailCompany , it's called self glossing. You stole a pattern from someone else and renamed it as if you developed it. You are total scum.
Thanks for all of you instructional videos. I am just getting started with Euro Nymphing. What rod and reel set up would you suggest for Steelhead ?? I currently have an Orvis Clear Water 10' 7wt rod and reel combo that I use for indicator fishing steelhead on some Lake Erie tributaries. I was wondering if I would be able to adapt this set up ?? I do know that it would be better to have a fully caged reel and a more sensitive rod tip. Just wondering if I could effectively try to Euro Style Nymph for Steelies with this set up. Thanks again and tight lines
I always say, start with what you have. a 10' 7 weight is not a bad place to start! If you really want to get into euro nymphing steelhead I would recommend watching my steelhead series. kzread.info/head/PLuLwf7ym7i7Y6QY7Q-Nnmt9_AU8-bBKke I go through all of the setups I've used, what was good, what wasn't good and where I ended up. Spoiler... the Diamondback Ideal Nymph 6wt is really the best rod for euro nymphing steelhead... it was designed specifically for that purpose and it blows me away every time I fish it!
Are you using a euro specific fly line before your micro loop or a dry fly line?
I am using the Rio Euro Nymph fly line (braided core) that I do the micro loop on. I have a video on making the micro loop. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hX9lltuNlsjTYaQ.html
Excellent! Epic tutorial!! Thank you!!
Thank you! I hope you enjoy the rest of the series!
Hooksets are FREE🤜🏼🤜🏼
That they are!
Bows outcompete Browns, Brookies, Lake trout, Grayling, and western Pacific Asian trout, because their Redwood Grand Canyon environment has led to extremely high levels of fitness and fecundity
In my local waters the browns tend to survive better while the bows tend not to hold over well. In rivers where they have stocked both, the browns have either held over or even become a wild population while the bows tend not to be able to survive long. Not sure why.
How long should the squirmy material be in front of the bead and the back portion?
It's up to you, but I typically do about 1 inch on either end of the hook. You can go longer though.
A++
Thanks!
ReWatching this video....PACKED...with info that is "REASONED" & that is working....so very rewarding !!! Thx , Mr. Spinner 😊
You're welcome! I'm glad you find it helpful. I'm assuming you have see the rest of the videos in the euro nymphing series but if you haven't they are all here in this playlist. kzread.info/head/PLuLwf7ym7i7bre38GWqk0pXZggydq3Z5m
Right?
Another much interesting video!
Thank you! I'm glad you've been enjoying them!
I was just looking for a video on technique and this wasn't it. Mostly review for me. Seemed to be targeting people completely new to fly fishing. Good info on rigging your rod though. Videos are long.
Well to be fair it is titled euronymphing basics
The beginning of the series is definitely geared toward beginners but I've found even experienced anglers have learned from the detail I put into them. As the series goes on to more advanced topics, I get into much more detail for more experienced anglers. The whole series can be found here. kzread.info/head/PLuLwf7ym7i7bre38GWqk0pXZggydq3Z5m
@@WhiteDogTrailCompany I’ve actually started watching a few they are very informative. I’ve been fly fishing for few years but never really knew much about euro nymphing I just used nymphs under a dry fly or indicator but this seams way more effective.
Very slick. Just got into euro nymphing, in fact I've just returned to fly fishing after a 25 year break and I've found your euro nymphing series really informative. One major difference I've picked up on from the setups people use over here in the UK is they don't bother with the fly line if you are using a 30ft mono rig. They just tie the mono rig directly to the backing. This makes the 'knot/join' even neater. Also fits nicely into your 'budget' option as you've saved money on a flyline you just don't use. They also use 'closed cage' reels to neate the mono getting pulled under the rim of the reel.
Yes! Many people here do the same on both accounts as well.
Europeans invented it Americans perfected it
Most helpful video I’ve come across. Doesn’t skip over anything. I needed this.👍🏻👍🏻
Awesome! I'm glad you found my euro nymphing series and are enjoying it!
Really like the dubbed body…and not cutting the material, and using the dental threader!
Yeah... I played with different ways to tie is a bunch of years ago and this was by far the best way I came up with. The dubbing along the ends of the squirmy material make a huge difference with how long the flies last!
Does anyone rent boats or run charters on Paradox?
Instantly hooked to this series. I don't have the gear yet but am inspired to begin the Euronymphing journey
That's awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed it and I hope you enjoy the actual fishing more!
Commercial too long to wait to see your post . . ..
great video! why not just use a drop shot rig and you can always get the exact bottom feel for any fly combo, depth, current etc?
Drop shot rigs can be great! Especially if you don't want to lose a fly on the bottom.
Thank you. I was going to leave my bass tackle at home and just take trout tackle. Thank you, for saving my trip.
To much TALKING
Instead of using mono, would braided line be better? Less stretch and apparently more sensitive to feeling bites. Probably cast better too.
I have not done it but there are people who use braided line.
With the government acting the way it has do you think people give a damn about laws anymore? They can shove it
The most comprehensive video on Euro Nymphing. Thanks a lot.
Thank you!!!
Enjoyed your video.
Thank you! I hope you found the rest of the euro nymphing series as well!
I may have missed it somewhere, but do you put backing on your fly reel?
I do! The backing provides a base for the reel and makes it so you gather more line with each turn of the reel.
@@WhiteDogTrailCompany Thank you Sir!
Can you look at the camera once in a while like you’re actually talking to us? You don’t need tag ends on your sighter because you are using heavy gauge line. A nail knot is easy to tie using a simple nail knot tool. And if you finish your knots with Knotsense you will make them easier to pass through the guides. Have a look at Max Catch euro rods, they are fantastic value for money, they have extra large snake guides ( some are titanium coated to make them very hard wearing) to allow knots to pass through with Less friction and last but not least they are around $100 for a 11ft 2wt euro rod!
