    With more hours, the unshaded air temp would have gotten 20+ degrees hotter. Especially if you crack the windows on the shaded car too.

    They don't reduce the heat that much but they will stop fading and cracking of car interiors.

    You need to have two exactly identical cars to really pull this test off. There are to many variables in this one.

    Definitely works to drop the temp when combined with good UV blocking tinting on the other windows. I use mine since the new car has all of these electronics now....heads up display and pop up nav along with trying to preserve the wheel and the dash itself from UV damage.

    I agree the sunshade is really more about protecting your interior than lowering air temp.. The main reason regardless of side window tinted or not and why the air temp was the same was the shade is inside the car. The heat has already made it inside the car at that point. Now if you had put the shade on the outside of the window it probably would have made a difference in "air" temp because its reflecting the heat "before" it reaches the inside of the car. However, with no side or rear protection it will only go so far. If you want to block "heat" the protection needs to be outside.

    An importance of keeping the dashboard cooler is that the schmutz on the interior of the windshield is due to the plastic particles that melt in high heat and become airborne and stick to the glass

    Also keep this in mind: Ambient air temperature wasn't affected, but the hotter surfaces will continue to radiate heat into the cabin after you've gotten into your car and started running your a/c. It'll be easier to cool the car with the surface that is less hot.

  • @jonathonfee2542
    @jonathonfee25422 жыл бұрын

    I think a full test would include how long those vehicles take to cool after the vehicle is started. If sun visors reduce surface temperatures (which you have proven) those surfaces aren't radiating heat, which your AC system has to remove. Air has a low mass, so it's easier to cool than the surfaces in your car, which can retain much higher heat energy due to their relatively higher mass than air. Additionally, air is circulated, which cools it faster than objects in your car, which trap heat under the surface. Those objects release heat slowly as the heat is removed on the outermost layer and heat moves slowly outward from the inner layers.

    Thanks for posting. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth getting the customized Weathertech sun shade or not--it's roughly 50 bucks. Kraco sun shades are a fraction of the price, at 13 bucks. Based on these findings, the science says that there really isn't all that much of difference between the two in terms of temperature changes.

  • @mostguitarswins

Maybe you should try again and use a Covercraft sunshade and also The Original Retractable Shade. Then the rest of us would be able to see how they work.

    People forget the true purpose of sunshades is not to keep ambient temperatures down, but to reduce the surface heat of the dashboard, steering wheel, and other interior- thus prolonging the life of those areas from cracks, fading, and other sun damage.

    Does anyone else notice that after your car has been sitting a while, that the thermometers for the exterior and interior are alot usually hotter than the actual temperature? I think it may have to do with where they are positioned. I am pretty sure some cars temperature sensors are mounted inside the rear view mirror. If that's the case you wont get an accurate measurement unless you drive around and let the surfaces cool

    I have one cause none of my windows are tinted I just keep it in the back seat when it’s hot out or I know cars going to be sitting for awhyll I throw mine up on the front window. Mines a little big but it works the centre mirror and the sun visors help hold it up. It’s not a 100% perfect fit but it dose help keep the car cool and helps keep the dash from getting destroyed by the sun. So no cracked or warped dashes I like mine it was cheap but gets the job done and only takes 2 seconds to put up
