We need a history of Chuck e Cheese in Minnesota.
@dooklarue3 ай бұрын
Pizza Time Theatre came to Minneapolis/St. Paul in 1981 in Blaine, New Hope, Burnsville, Maplewood, and Richfield, then got their butts kicked by ShowBiz Pizza and local competitor, Circus Pizza, then left town in 1986. Circus won the Minnesota pizza wars in the '80s and converted the defunct Pizza Time Theatres in Blaine, New Hope, and Burnsville to new Circus locations. They also bought the ShowBiz in W. St. Paul since Circus had begun adopting the Rock-afire show in all locations. A Chuck E Cheese up in St. Cloud owned by a different franchise remained open until almost 1990. There was one in Duluth too that didn't last much longer than the ones around the Twin Cities. MN was the only state in the late '90s not to have CEC (besides sparsely populated states VT an WY) because Circus had such a hold on the Minneapolis market with seven locations at its peak. CEC came back to MN in 1998 with corporate muscle and bought out Circus, converting their locations in Blaine, W. St. Paul, and Edina to CECs. This meant Blaine went back to being a CEC after 11 years as Circus and W. St. Paul had been all three, starting life as ShowBiz in 1982, then becoming Circus in 1987, then CEC in 1998. All the other Circus locations were not converted and left to close. CEC opened a new, different location in Burnsville and another new one in Maple Grove. Outside the Twin Cites they opened one in Rochester that did not last and a new location in St. Cloud that has (across the street from where Pizza Time Theatre had been). They have since closed Edina and W. St. Paul, leaving Blaine as the only MN location left with any real history.

This CEC was the one my family took us to the most often and its changed very little from about 20-30 years ago. Really the climbing thing/ball pit was removed and changed and the curtains used to work and did close up, but they appear to be left open. I remember because kids were always trying to peak behind the curtains. Really this is one of the few CECs I hope never gets changed. This is a classic CEC to the area. The only other CECs I went to locally were la mirada in the mid 2000s which had the 80s/90s animatronics then and the only other cec I've past by and never gone into is the costa mesa location. All within Orange County. I'm pretty sure the Costa Mesa location got the update, but I don't know about the other location. I no longer live in the area, but I do have family out there.
