I sell DTF transfers among another things and I just got into screen printing because nothing beats screen printing. It has been around for a very long time and it isn’t going anywhere. The one issue I have with DTF is the color range in the CMYK color gamut. Even if you add 8 colors and white, you will still struggle to match colors. Not to mention Pantone color matching is harder with DTF (or digital printing modalities) as the white ink is used for the under base and does not impact the color. Having both methods is a good thing because you are able to provide the best services to those customers who just don’t trust DTF or heat transfers in general. I also want to add, most of the DTF transfer companies selling transfers for dirt cheap are using the cheapest consumables so the customers really get what they pay for. I spend a decent amount of change on my consumables to make sure my customers get the best product that will last the longest. I can’t count how many times we have been told our transfers are better than the big box names. Don’t aim to be the cheapest. Aim to have the best product and the customers will come.

The internet is not good about keeping business models and trade secrets. DTF has definitely impacted screen printed goods and demand for S P equipment. Here are the problems. Consumers are bypassing the traditional t-shirt shops and buying just the transfers directly and heat pressing at home. People use to complain about garage screen printing shop, now we have a transfer press in the house and many wholesale transfer sites selling directly to the consumer (your customers). No overhead costs to do this.

Every method definitely has its time and place. I always felt like DTF was looked down on as a small shop thing. Glad to see big shops are using them as well in this way. What temperature do you find works best for your application?

Do you agree with the video conclusion on screen printing and digital printing?

Wait until DTF goes high speed with Roll to Roll using single pass printheads or single pass inkjets with a sheet feeder (like offset). It will be a game changer. Heat transfer presses will be more automated and staff will be easier to train. Require less employees, less capital equipment purchases, smaller warehousing , less utilities and a simply production model. 😂 It makes me sad.

All these new inks and text are nothing compared to having to make your inks up from scratch and we didn't have flash dry we used to do 100mtr tables of aprons and t towels each colour was 5 prints apart from each other with screens over lapping both prints on ether side of the 1 your on with a forward and back motion on the squeegee by hand with much bigger steel screens with handles on both sides and about a ltr of ink in screens not just blobs like all these so called printers do these days

Hats off to you for the real screen printing you did. I'm afraid that even the plastisol inks I showed in the video are slowly being replaced with digital inks. The world is changing fast. All the best to you.

🙂The machine is called the "i-image". It's amazing technology; we send the design to a computer connected to the i-image, and through special software, we send the colour-separated design to the i-image. We used to print on films and then have to keep boxes and boxes of old films; now, if a customer re-orders, we just resend the design to the i-image and print the design right on the coated screen. Here is a link and more videos on this machine: www.mrprint.com/equipment/i-image-s-computer-to-screen-cts-imaging-system

We are doing a series of interviews at Artik with entrepreneurs and interesting people we come across as we do custom printed projects. First up is an interview with Tammy Gunn the founder of 'Live OUT LOUD Movement' a fitness company specializing in Zumba and Laughter Yoga. Tammy has a lot of insights on what it takes to move from a part time fitness instructor to a full time, successful business owner. We cover areas of business, fitness and weight loss. Being the first interview I would love to get any feedback, comments and shares. Also ideas for the next interview are welcome. www.artik.com/toronto-blog/interview-tammy-gunn-2/ #fitness #weightlosstips #smallbusiness #smallbiz #socialmediamarketing #smallbusinessmarketing #zumba #zumbainstructor
