Dionne Warwick & Burt Bacharach are the GOAT! The first time I heard Dionne Warwick’s original version as a child in the 70s, it was a voice of an angel singing…Also! The solo Oboe arrangement was emotionally haunting. It makes you want to weep.

Early 1964, my first year of Technical College, Top of the Pops had just started, no Radio 1 or Radio 2, two television channels in black and white 405 lines transmission and no remote control, the UK still emerging from the grey 50s, fossil fuels pumping crap from millions of open fires: were they the good times that people look back on with nostalgia?

2:51 she gave to this song .. in the sixties with radio you HAD to keep your son in the 3 to 3.5 minute range .. Dionne was given this song to sing for the American market, yet Bacharach gave this song to Cilia for the UK/European eeho raced thru it in less than 3 minutes .. Cilla did not have the depth and wisdom to give the song and lyrics justice as have been embellished by latter treatments. This is the definition of a torchy love song and deserves more time, patience and heart than rushed thru by Cilla!

In America all the Burt Bachrach/Hal David songs were apparently written to be performed by their own contractual artist Dionne Warwick, and I had never heard Brian Epstein's Liverpool artist Cilla Black perform She's incredible. The live performance is stunning. Her voice, with only her voice, and the orchestra. Why didn't they bring her to the States? The British should be proud they brought forth such talent.
