It is an alternate takes of the record session of June 7, 9, 16 & 24, 1960 in New York City, I didn't think it would exist. Very rare on Basie's discography, almost on Roulette ("Atomic" period). The piano intro is less perfect, the tenor solo pretty different, the tpt solo very close (that may mean that soloist prepared the construction of their solos in those sessions). At 2:17 , tpt 2 miss the attack; 4:31 , tpt lead misses the note...

I'm glad to disagree. At what point does he mutilate he the song? At 1 minute or 2 minutes or 3 to 6 minutes? RB's rendition is cool strong and edgy. I get Girl Talk is a soft jazz song. I like Oscar Peterson's version and of course Julie London's version is the ultimate. RB hit a homer.

In my opinion he mutilates a smooth seductive sophisticated understated jazz piece and turns it into a heavy handed hard blues exercise His approach is closer to Watermelon Man than Girl Talk
