I tested the jack, and it wasn't crossing over to let the battery work. Took out the jack and soldered the pads across on the board for a test, and the leds kicked on! Thank you Sir!!!!!

    Hey james, I have boss BD-2 as well, in another video you said boss doesn't sell parts anymore, I need to get a new dc power jack for the pedal. I do not know how to find the part number and I wanna make sure I order the right part. Where can I find the right part and or part number? Another concern is the pedal has the revised smaller circuit boards (I bought it brand new inn 2021) and it seems too have a slightly different DC power jack (I could be wrong about it being different), but this is why I wanna make sure I find the right part.

    I have an old Crate B10 xl solid state amp that I’ve been trying to get working again for a couple years. There isn’t any repair places near me and I searched all over online with no luck finding any similar problems like mine. I was playing it and all of a sudden zero audio, not even a hum, the fuse wasn’t blown and it still powers on. I’ve confirmed that the speaker is still good, I can’t see any signs of something that got hot or blew, the jack inputs are making contact and are re-soldered, all of the wiring is good, and it doesn’t even make a sound when I touch the aux jack.

  • @jamelectronics
    @jamelectronicsАй бұрын

    You say you checked the input jacks, but have you cleaned/checked the headphones jack? That jack can cause loss of audio if the normally closed contacts are dirty or not in contact. You could also plug in headphones and see if you have sound in the headphones. If no sound at headphone or line out then, possibly one of the two Integrated Circuit components. Diagnosing those are advanced troubleshooting. Start with the headphone Jack and report back.

    Heres MY situation. Peavey XXL head Solid state ..... I kept getting weaker & weaker signal, almost like a bad cord or something .... Swicthed cords , tapped dials, tapped guitar, plugged straight into head with nothing else ... same problem signal getting weaker & woukld eventually come back up. .... Come to find out I had my Amp on 8ohms, but the cabinet is drawing 13.2ohms .so cab SHOULDVE been on 16 but it wasnt, it was on 8ohms. . Thinking I burned up something, plugged patch cable into effects loop on a whim ...........& the amp plays fine. Unplug the cable & it is back to fluctuating up & down again. ......would you still think its the input jacks for the effects loop?????

  • @jamelectronics
    @jamelectronicsАй бұрын

    Sounds like you’ve determined the power amp section is ok. The problem is between the input jack where you plug in your guitar and the effects loop jacks. So, it still could be the effects loop jacks, but could also be any other component in the preamp section. I wish I could tell you where you’re losing signal, but that will take some advanced troubleshooting.

    Is there an easy way to apply contact cleaner to the pots - without completely dismantling the boards?

  • @jamelectronics
    @jamelectronics2 ай бұрын

    To really get the cleaner into the pot, the board has to be raised. However, you can remove the knobs and spray around the pot shaft and then rotate the pot back and forth. This often lets enough contact cleaner ooze down into the Pot to clear it.

    cathode current or is plate current better?

  • @jamelectronics
    @jamelectronics3 ай бұрын

    If you’re asking which should be used for amp biasing, you could use either. If you are using a calculator such as tedweber.com, they use cathode current. Someone else’s calculator might use plate current. Cathode current is easier to measure since you are dealing with lower voltages in the cathode circuit. If you measure cathode current but want to know plate current, you can subtract the screen grid current from the cathode current to get the plate current value. To get the screen grid current, measure the voltage drop across the screen grid resistor, divide by the value of the screen grid resistor and there you have it.

    @@user-no9qn5gz8w, Bobby, I made this video 7 years ago. I apologize if my video quality is not up to your standards. So sorry about the shakiness, but my intention with my videos is only to give information about things I know about to those that would like to watch. There is the schematic drawing at 1:35 in the video that you said I should have included. As to soldering, it looks plain to me in the video that the connections are soldered but, they can be connected without soldering - it's the viewer's choice. I don't think my finger is blocking anything. The circuit is so simple. Only 2 components and a schematic to show what connects to what. Did you not see the schematic? I watch a lot of DIY videos. When I am doing a project that I need to know how to do, I watch several KZread videos. Some contain all the info I need, and some do not. I never critique someone else's video. They've taken the time to present something they believe will help someone else. I don't have the time and besides what's the purpose- they are not going to make a new video "fixing" the things I have pointed out. They're offering a video, and I can watch or not. By watching multiple ones, I get a very good idea of how to proceed. You "moving on" to do more "research" is a good thing. I'm sure you learned a lot. Good luck on your future pursuits!

    A tip for you when setting out plants, for example tomato plants. Drive a piece of rebar in the ground beside your plants' take a piece of copper wire and conect it from rebar to rebar in series. Take a car battery and a set of jumper cables and connect the ground to one of the pieces of rebar or the copper wire' take the hot cable and touch it to the copper wire or one of the pieces of rebar for about 5/10 seconds. The worms in the ground will get excited and wiggle around, causing an under ground tillin effect. That will help the roots expand and the plants will grow faster. Most of the worms will come to the top of the ground' you can catch a few and use them to go fishing and have fish and tomato sandwiches.

I have a JCM 2000, English 100w head, (2005 post bias drift), just purchased off the Internet, I just re-tubed it but it still sounds like it has a cool bias setting even though I have it set hot (88mV, Marshall recommends 90), I tried cleaning the effects loop, patching it but to no avail... Something I just noticed is, if I tap on the master volume knob it won't completely mute when I have it on 0, if I keep tapping it goes away (completely mute), and comes back so naturally I stop tapping when it's muted (normal), ever come across anything like this?

  • @jamelectronics
    @jamelectronics6 ай бұрын

    There are 3 wires coming into the amp from the power cord. The "hot" wire goes to the on/off switch and then to the transformer. The transformer is mounted on the back of the chassis (could this be what you think is a fuse block?). The 2nd wire goes straight to the transformer and is the Neutral wire. It will not show any voltage with your probe. The 3rd wire is a ground and is terminated directly to the chassis and is a safety ground and obviously has no voltage. I don't believe there is a fuse in your amp. Not sure what your issue is with the amp, but I hope this helps.

    What if the volume fade-out is NOT solved by the patch cable from Preamp Out to Poweramp In? My brother has a Peavey Artist VT hybrid combo amp and it's volume always drops about 30 dB after it's been operating for about 10 minutes. It does the same fading when the Preamp Out of a second (good) amp is cabled to the sick amp's Poweramp In jack... a setup intended to test the sick amp's poweramp module. (Note: The Preamp Out jack of the sick amp was also cabled to the Poweramp In of the good amp during this test, but that pair wasn't being driven by the input signal.) Does this imply the jacks' internal connectors are NOT responsible for the fading? The four output tubes appear to glow orange as steadily after the volume fades as before. If the fadeout might be tube-related, could that be tested by removing two of the four tubes? And then reinstalling those two and removing the other two? Or does the amp require all four tubes to be present to work at all?
