Thanks Rich. Gives me some inspiration to get on with mine.
Fantastic Richard. Watched the whole lot in one sitting and will start work on my new/old toy tomorrow. Would have liked to see how you adjusted the pallet to vary the key height but I think I can figure it out. You tube was designed for helpful people like you. Thank you very much.
Thankyou so much for your kind comments James - good luck with your accordion - ask me any questions if you get stuck ! Best wishes Rich
Fantastic job, Rich. You have a real magic with accordions.
Thankyou Mark I hope all is good with you 😊
Ukraina language Браво! Гарна робота! Будь ласка підкажіть яка пропорція води та миючого засобу?
Hello I put about 5 drops of detergent to 250ml of warm water 😁
@@richedwards9646 дякую!
Thanks Rich, being able to do simple rivetting and poppers appears essential to give the right look on straps etc - I'll have to get the kits
Is this accodion sold?
Sorry it's now sold .
Thank you for your kind answer!
A style?
Thanks 😊
Love the window style 🪟 register indicators on these old boxes
Me too - it's very cool ! 😎
Thank you for your informative videos. Can you direct me to one that describes replacement of Reed leathers? Thank you.
You scared me with the title... I thought you were going to open Pandora's Box and go after the bass button assembly. I think I spent a week in there messing with those 120 actuators, trying to figure out why they were binding. A man could truly get lost in there and require a search party to get him out, LOL. Still enjoying my old accordion and I'm not convinced I'll buy a new one. So much fun!
What kind of glue should I use? Also what kind of glue for the metal corners? Thanks
The bellows gasket is self adhesive For the bellows corners I use super glue
Hello, do you think this method could work with a celluloid photo album cover? I have parts popping up and I would like them to lay flat so they don't chip off but I'm unfamiliar with celluloid
I thought this was about chocolate.
Currently thinking about getting a 1910s accordion to learn repair/accordion on. These videos really show the amount of work needed and how to get it done. I wonder if I can do it myself...
Have a go !! Just take your time and ask me anything if you get stuck !!
@@richedwards9646 thanks for the encouragement!
Sounds great
Hey there Rich, I think that's three sets of middle Reed playing as opposed to two. I can tell by the sound of the Tremolo
I've gotten the hang of tuning but I'm having trouble with tuning the second voice reeds to get the right tremolo effect. Do you start by tuning both reeds to concert pitch then tune the tremolo reed up little by little checking until it sounds right? Should both reeds together register on a tuner perfect on the note or will it be slightly offset because of the tremolo?
Hello Good question ! What I do is work out which set of reeds is tuned to the pitch of the accordion. Eg A440( this can be tricky as some accordions are tuned to various standards eg AA42 , 438 etc - if I'm not sure I use the bass reeds as a reference as they will all be tuned to the pitch of the accordion I will then tune these reeds to their pitch eg AA440 Then I will play these reeds and the tremolo set of reeds together and measure the difference in pitch between 2 reeds using my Dirks tuner app. Sometimes the tremolo set of reeds is tuned BELOW the tuning of the reeds tuned to pitch which means if you flatten a tremolo reed you will get more tremolo !!- most of the time the tremolo reeds are tuned slightly above the reeds tuned to pitch . I hope this helps Good luck! 😊
Is that “those were the days” at the end lol, I recognize one finally 😂
🎉 I just scraped the wax off the bass reeds of my prewar Scandalli. Did the gaskets last night - waiting for more bellows pins to come in to fill missing ones
Thanks for your videos. Trying to repair a hohner concerto 2 now so i can finally sell it :D
Thankyou Good luck Let me know if you need any advice 🙂
.
Hi! Are you mixing soap with the water in the ultrasonic cleaner for better cleaning, or is it to make it an alkaline solution to prevent rust ? Have you had any issue getting reeds in water that way, or is it really safe with soap and proper drying?
I add a few drops of washing up liquid I thoroughly dry them with a hot hair dryer - it doesn't cause any issues
nice work!
Thanks!
Ah I’m doing this right now on my prewar Scandalli. I glued each pallet to some 1.6 mm felt, and then each felted pallet to some chamois cloth. Hopefully I get a good seal
Hope your restoration is going well Give me a shout if you have any queries!
I did that exact same thing to my hohner regina 4 - worked well
Hellow Mr. Edrawds. I was wondering if there is a way to revive old felt and leather on treble pallets without removing them in order to make them more quiet. Do you have any Idea? I was thinking about dropping some natural oil or something like that.
You could try brushing the surface with a toothbrush
Great first video! Did you ever finish this series? I didn’t find them on your page. I’m thinking of starting my first dulcimer build and I’d love to keep using your videos for reference!
Your bellows pin block is cool haha . I picked up a prewar Scandalli and half the bellows pins are gone. I picked it up and was like “ahhhh that’s why it’s leaking so bad”
And the Italian one at 3:00 wow !
You wouldn’t know the name of that first Irish tune would you ?
I believe its 'down by the Sally Gardens '
Making your own straps is so cool, love it
Thanks again Rich, nice to see you do that again - and thanks for the link to ha-vent with Charlie not being well getting supplies has been a challenge - are there any other suppliers you can share?
www.accordionshop24.com These are good 😊👍
Just picked up one of these. Needs work but good to know it can sound so good!
Hope you enjoy it! 😊😊😊
Thanks for sharing this technique The brush methods seems a bit easier than the spatula method Thanks Cheers from California
You are welcome! 😁
Hey rich ! Love your work - inspired me to post my first KZread of my own restoration today 🎉 pray for me bro
Hello friend !! I'm so glad that you are doing your own restoration! I wish you well - take your time and try to be as careful as possible at all stages ! Give me a shout if you need any advice 🙂
What and where do you get the tape from
Hello You can get bellows tape here www.accordionshop24.com/search?sSearch=bellows+tape Cheers Rich
Hello Sir - Nice video. However, one observation I have made ie when you are taking out reed boards for cleaning up slides, the accordion body is not correctly placed - the piano key board must never be kept facing the surface downward - this can sometimes cause serious damage /breakage to the piano keys. Piano keys must always face upwards (Like a normal piano). Luckily , you have a carpet cushioning on the table which have provided protection to the keys - but damage cannot be ruled out if any loose thread (?) in the carpet gets entangled in the piano keys. Your lubrication of metallic parts is OK considering that the '' greenish '' chemical on these parts gets easily rusted. Most HOHNER accordions do have this nagging problem and I do not know why they have never bothered about it. Also unlike Italian accordions, Bellow metal 'Corners' of most HOHNER accordions get easily rusted with this "greenish" substance on the corners despite care - even in their high ended professional models like Atlantic and Morino. Incidentally, May I request you to let me name of the " Lubricant" you are using ? Warm Regards.
Sir, in my accordion there is no sound at all in the bass section…what is the reason pls?
selline liimimine võtab palju aega .Saab hulga lihtsamalt
Thank you
I bought an ultrasonic cleaner but was not very happy with it - maybe I should’ve left them in longer
Mo mo❤
Glad to see you are still documenting your work, it will be invaluable when I make my own attempts ❤
What glue is that?
Very enjoyable series. Thank you for taking the time to film it.
Sir - Some how I differ with you - if I am right, this wah wah sound indicated a " Wet " tuning which is difficult and not easily found . I would have been happier to have kept such an accordion "as is " condition. Nonetheless - your 'easy fix' solution is amazing and amusing as well - plz accept my compliments for that ! Warm Regards !
So much personality in those notes wow
Indeed! I am looking forward to hearing how it sounds after being restored though !!
Would like to follow you through this restoration. Is part two available yet?
Hello I'm just filming part 2 should be ready in a couple of days Thanks for watching!!😊
Great job giving an example of the instrument prior to any work. It gives us a great starting point as viewers. It's in almost the same condition as mine was when I started working on it. I bet that Pancotti is going to be a real gem when you've finished with it. The other Pancotti that Mike gave to you is truly beautiful. The voice is very deep and full. As always, I look forward to watching this series of videos and listening to the final product of your labor. You're a very talented fellow, Rich!
Thanks Mark! You are very kind How s your accordion ? I hope you are still enjoying playing it 😊
@@richedwards9646 I'm still playing it nearly every day. It's a joyful experience for me. As I continue to play, all of the bass buttons came completely free. It's not in perfect tune but it's good enough.
Yes I have also worked on my Hohner Regina 4 register buttons - I am happy to note i cleaned the sliders just as you did - still having an issue one of the registers when you press the button sometimes does not change the register - i guess that something is worn or not quite in the right place - will investigate soon. Interesting that my accordion(1941) has very similar type of register change although much less complex with two palm buttons and 4 choices available
Great job. I’ve done exactly the same with my 2 voiced red Hohner Student 40, the couplers stucked. I agree these older Hohner accordeons have great looks and a very nice sound. Here a sound-demo: kzread.infoqt3lDMyz858?si=qFXy-j2JHB6N1GYv
