    I may have missed it but is there any reason I can’t use the tach as a tach as well ?

  • @DieselFuelNetwork
    @DieselFuelNetwork11 сағат бұрын

    It can be used as your primary tach. The only reason I set mine up this way is I didn't want that particular tach on the dash. It's way too big and doesn't have the look I want. I already had the other tach in the dashboard, but that one doesn't have a shift light, so it couldn't be used for my limiter.

    Instead of complaining how you are not into it get the right pipes to begin with. It is not that expensive. Anytime you hack something together it will never look right.

  • @DieselFuelNetwork
    @DieselFuelNetworkКүн бұрын

    I had to go back and watch. One thing to consider is that this machine flexes quite a bit when off-road. So I really prefer to have the exhaust sections connected with flex pipe. Any other type of flex joint would not look right and is more expensive. This exhaust system is basically what I had before stretching the frame and is made up of harley drag pipes I got for free. The rear section over the tire is exactly how I want it to look. Thanks for watching and commenting

    Yay for Gary! I vote Gary for president of tractors! :D lol I like hearing your backstory, especially since you're a fellow upstate NY'r. I know the car scene in Middletown all too well. I'm still in M-town often. Just keep doing what you do. You don't need money to make great content. People like watching stuff be created on the cheap, it's why a lot of people watch stuff like this. And for whoever wants more 'exciting' videos, why are you watching? He's doing what we expect from the channel. Do you want him to jump the tractor into the pond ? That would be cool, I'll admit, but I wouldn't expect it.. yet. ;)

    Thank you. That's very encouraging. I don't think I'll be jumping any tractors into the pond anytime soon, lol. It's good to know what I'm doing is at least entertaining. And it's what I'd be doing anyway, even without a youtube channel. I appreciate you watching.

    Has anyone been able to find a mercury steering wheel or a similar style like the one Gary got from ebay? I've been looking and not easy to find. Gary - what is the diameter of that boat steering wheel from the mercury? I think I've found something we can use on our builds - google up tractor steering wheels. They look a lot like Gary's steering wheel and I'd like to know the diameter so I can get the same sized one as his.

  • @DieselFuelNetwork
    @DieselFuelNetwork2 күн бұрын

    My steering wheel is 14.5" When I found it, I think I just looked up "vintage tractor steering wheel" or "tractor steering wheel" on eBay. The seller didn't actually know what it was from. They had it listed as "Vintage custom hotrod steering wheel." I have found similar wheels from old tractors on eBay. I've noticed that sometimes they don't show the diameter, and you would have to contact the seller. I got lucky with mine because it was only $10 and has a metal center.

    Gary - you've inspired me to build. I've scanned facebook marketplace and last weekend I drove 1000 miles to collect some mowers. I stripped down a mower yesterday and those craftsmen mowers are quite simple. I had an idea - if you take 2 frames, you should be able to cut the front off of a 2nd chassis just behind the axle mounting point and bolt the front end of one to the front end of the other - front to front like a head-on collision. The holes line up. Once bolted, it could be welded up and then it allows you to use the stock axle mounting point from the 2nd frame - just in reverse. It will stretch the front out a bit more, but it might make a simpler way for someone to stretch the front axle and still use the factory tilting axle. Love your channel - haters gonna hate so don't focus on them. Just run your channel and ignore the comments including this one.

    The truck was hung up, thus why she was only digging deeper holes. He shouldn’t just kept reving the engine. By spinning tires more. Making it worst. Also look like he had bad tires on back. Which had no traction. He Should put some hard dirt/gravel to fill the hole, Jack the truck up at front. Fill them up, let truck back down. Then Jack up back. Fill the holes. Then could slowly rolled away. Weight on truck back would have also might helped some, deflating back tires some maybe also helped. Lived on small horse farm for 25+ yrs. been in my share of stuck with farm trucks or tractor. We even at one time had old Ferguson 2Wheel driver tractor. I’ve had her stuck more few times in fields. And no the Ferguson didn’t have bucket. Just blade in back and a lot weight in blade to help with grip.

  • @DieselFuelNetwork
    @DieselFuelNetwork5 күн бұрын

    Most of what you're saying is true. Except the rear tires aren't "bad," they're just not aggressive traction tires. They're all position road tires. More revving definitely wasn't helping, but it just felt good out of frustration, lol. I didn't have gravel, though I did put some of the driveway gravel under the rear left dual that was spinning. I like your thorough assessment. Thanks for commenting

    @@DieselFuelNetwork No problem. Not trying to be rude, just given some pointer for ya. Ya my parents had owned 5 acres of horse farm house (built in 1980’s). we had anywhere from 3 to 4 horses. Sometime we board a horse for a neighbour. That old Ferguson tractor we had was from like 1950’s, thing was gutless, prob only 20 HP gas. 4 speed manual with H/L gear box. This back early 90’s. We couldn’t afford diesel at the time. We also had later bought a 2001 diesel 24 Hp Kobuta tractor 4x4. Got her stuck more then few times. Tires she came with only turf tires so they were useless in snow or wet mud,even with 4x4 engaged. My dad later upgrade to huge aggressive Truck mud tires. Made HUE difference. We also had old 1986 F150 4x4 302 v8 5 speed manual truck with locking hubs. Leaned how shift gears on her, driving in the field. Got so many times stuck in field when dumping Horse manure. We upgrade her better mud tires. Made huge different so could do my job. When winter came. We got snow tires. We moved into farm houses in 1990. Then parents got too old. They later sold back 2016. So about 25+ yrs of working on farm, getting stuck All kinds of farm equipment/trucks/tractors. Yeah fully understand want stomp on it just take out some frustration, but yah it’s wrong thing to do when don’t have proper tires. TIRES do matter a lot, having correct one make huge difference. Here in Alberta Canada we get some very Huge snow storms. I Remember one year, dad had sold his 86’ F150 4x4. He Picked up Chevy S10 5 speed manual with small four-cylinder diesel so better on fuel mileage for when he drove to work. My dad worked in city and it was about 45 min drive from farm to work. He was heavy duty mechanic. One winter storm, We got so much snow. The truck was buried up to the roof. All was their was huge snowbank Lol. S10 was Gone lol. I Had get Kubota out from garage to dig out of snow, just so we could go get our mail. Sorry for rambling on. BUT Tires do make huge different. Anybody who tells you that “All season tires” are fine for winter or if your driving muddy Conditions are WRONG. One day they may save your life and aggravations. Trust me on this.

  • @DieselFuelNetwork
    @DieselFuelNetwork5 күн бұрын

    @@SireDragonChester All good. I love the story's. I definitely agree about the snow tires. I'm in NY and I'm a huge advocate for dedicated snow tires, even if you have 4WD or AWD. Years ago I actually drove a foxbody mustang 5.0 through the winter and had snow tires on it. I would go out to the Catskills to drive the mountain roads when it snowed. Ever since i always get snow tires in winter. My Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 AWD was incredible on snow tires. Like an overgrown rally car. The tires on my truck are what were on it when I got it. I will definitely be getting some more aggressive traction tires when I replace them.

    press the brake and stay on the gas till the other side starts to spin that is on the dry ground and you may have to start turning the steering wheel hard right and hard left till you get the traction to transfer to the dry side that isn’t spinning and you may have to press the brake harder than you might think to make the dry side start turning to get you out but I’ve had to use the technique to get myself in stuck a number of times even in a Full side Tractor trailer rig and also in pickups . A limited slip differential needs a little coaxing to get it to help you out sometimes.
