    Just had another watch of your video - do you stake them? Do they flop and do you ever do the Chelsea chop?

  • @gardensenglishandfinethings
    @gardensenglishandfinethings3 күн бұрын

    I forgot to say that I do the Chelsea chop with half of them, in order to prolong the flowering season. The tallest ones require staking, especially after rain, unless they are planted among shrub roses or peonies which support them.

They had made w hole in the fence, we have already had to repair the fence twice, today we've got to do it again. They come through my neighbour's garden whose fence is in very poor condition. We can't keep up with the repair work, I might have to invest in an electric fence if I want to save the garden.

    Wow Jolanta! I just didn’t realise the scope of your garden and just what variety of plants you have. As it’s the ‘wild’ area, does this mean you don’t tend it, feed or water it? Well, the plants are thriving beautifully. On another note, you’ve filmed it really well - plenty of overall views followed by close ups - moving shots and still shots. 👍🌸

  • @gardensenglishandfinethings
    @gardensenglishandfinethings2 ай бұрын

    Thank you, you're really kind. I'm slowly learning (from you too :-)) how to improve my filming technique. The garden is small but varied. What you see in the video is "fake wild" because I've planted most (?) of the perennial plants, I do weed the worst fragments occasionally, I prune the shrubs from time to time and I feed the roses. I never water it, though, so during a hot summer some plants suffer. I water only the plants in pots whose number I've recently decided to reduce to a minimum and I water the seedlings after I've transplanted them. I also use my own compost but I've got only two compost bins and use the most basic composting system which is rather slow as you're sure to know. Great to hear from you, Paul!

  • @paultsworld
    @paultsworld2 ай бұрын

    @@gardensenglishandfinethings Yes, I know exactly what you mean by (fake) wild - looks really good. Just watched your video again and love the first few seconds where you orbit the weigela and film towards the sun so it 'flares' into the lens as it passes - nice professional trick ;-)

    That's a really nice quince - I've never been successful with that plant and I don't think I've seen a pink forget-me-not before. What sort of problems are you having with your apple trees Yolanta? Always nice to see your fabulous collection of tulips!

  • @gardensenglishandfinethings
    @gardensenglishandfinethings3 ай бұрын

    There's a much prettier variety of the flowering quince, with darker colours (Chaenomeles superba). I find this plant really easy to grow, mine grows in sand and rubble, between two "hungry and thirsty" lilacs. The apple trees are too big for my garden, there's a lot of shade in the garden later in the year, when the sun is lower. I'm dreading the time I've got to collect their fruit from the lawn and from the flower beds. It's a back-breaking job and nobody wants those apples. The main upside of the trees is that, looking from my bedroom window, I can't see much beyond them, neither the school nor my neighbour's house :-) The tulips I planted in pots last autumn are a total failure this year, I won't use this method again, I think. Great to hear from you, Paul!
