Are you able to grow a guava plant from the cut branches? that looks like a lot of healthy foliage which could make into a healthy tree?

Are you the guy I just bought a Mexican Cream guava from on Etsy recently (2 weeks or so ago). I don't see anything wrong with a bush, the more branches the more fruit.

this is not the way to prune a guava tree. At least not for fruit quality and production. If you're only growing them as ornaments then I understand.

As per my understanding, we keep fruit trees for fruits and not for aesthetic purposes. More branches is usually a better option with chances of having more fruits. So I think u just did the reverse of what was actually required.

I agree with you that more branches= more fruit, but not at this stage. These are very young trees and they have to turn into strong trees. The focus is just tree health and growth of the tree rather than fruit production at this stage. Later in its life it will focus on producing fruit. I help people plant orchards and we never get any fruit from trees until they are 5 years old.

I have put C9 incandescent Christmas lights wrapped around the tree and wrapped several layers of frost cloth around my young mango tree in winter in Zone 9B. That works for my in-ground young mango tree; rest of them are in pots indoors during winter. Seedlings fare better than grafted ones.

Nice. Could you explain what is wrong in having a bushy tree. For smaller areas that may be a better option. We can always trim the bushy ones later too to the form we like. Can you explain your rational here? Thx

I wondered this also ... it must be purely for aesthetic reasons. Certainly NOT to maximise flowers and fruit production.

Why exactly would you not want a guava bush? Would it not grow as many guavas? Is it because of aesthetics? I have a guava tree in a big pot and have let it get bushy, hoping the more branches, the more fruit there will be. I’m okay with it being on the short side because it’s in a pot that is about 30 inches tall. I do want to maximize the amount of fruit so I’m researching how to prune it.

Wow one year old and still so small? Try giving them bigger pots and feeding them fish fertilizer. They are stunted. Also next time put bamboo stick further away from the roots.

How to get a thick trunk? My guava saplings are tall (grown from seeds) about 3 feet height, lots of leaves, but the trunk is really thin, not like a tree. Is that ok? Will it grow thick later, or can I do something to make it thick now? Thanks!
