This is a Basset clarinet- a longer A clarinet with 4 half tones lower, going all the way down to a low written C, sounding A.

This piece has been played to death by students so I welcome some new life injected via fast tempos by a master player. It is played so often because it is short and conveniently classical, in a field where there isn't much choice. Students now have the piece by John Williams called "Viktor's Tale," which is better at showing what a clarinet can express.

The clarity of your playing and the more obvious dynamics are things I rarely hear. You present those more than others and to me that's something unique which I appreciate a lot. Other listeners and musicians might have different opinions but from me, you have my congratulations. Well done!!

We wouldn't have this concert if he had died at the age of 32. W.A. Mozart 27.1.1756 - 5.12.1791. The concert was finished October 1971 and written for his rather ungrateful friend Anton Stadler
