You were wise to carry Bear Spray... Many don't... I always carry one on my chest strap and another on my waist strap (2 cans), and then my #357mag as a last resort... Some tell me the caliber is not good enough, but oh well, it's what I currently carry, but ONLY in America.

I live in Jasper National Park just on the Columbia Icefield, and I can't begin to explain how cautious I get walking from my house to work in the mornings and vice versa in the evenings. I have an app on my phone that lets me see what wildlife people have photographed recently in my GPS location, and on the regular it's things like bull moose, grizzlies, mountain lions, wolf packs, wolverines, elk and coyotes. Worst of all, though: rattlesnakes.

The way he was pacing to me gave the feel that he was trying to pass you but you were blocking his path. He also seemed curious. I don’t think he was going to attack you BUT you standing your ground was extremely WISE ❤

I agree, he didn't seem aggressive but just wanted to get by me. I don't think moving anywhere would have helped I just wanted to stay still and make sure he knew I was a human.

@@pull_pitch6012 I understand your premise, but wouldn't a more aggressive response work better to dissuade a bear? Like a much more aggressive voice and throwing rocks or branches? They don't always attack for food. Sometimes they get territorial or are protecting cubs.

@@anthonymorris5084you should look into how to act around grizzlies. Acting threatening in any way would increase your chances of getting attacked. Grizzlies know they are the king of the forest and aren't scared by anything but other grizzlies.

Apparently thats what you do with them, talk softly calmly to them, and let them know where you are and slowly give way a bit, don't run or they will just chase you. And with black bears you have to be more forceful in your demeanor and language to them, still talking and letting them know where you are and give way if need be. Saw this in an intructual video, it made sense.
