Fathers have a responsibility to sons until they reach a place of maturity(in the natural it would be an age) As a parent I correct but even when my correction may not be received well, understood, etc it doesn’t release me from the role of parenting! I’m responsible for you even in your immaturity and rebellion! If the son can’t dismiss the father, the father equally can not dismiss himself from the responsibility of the son EVEN in challenging moments.

I'm not fond of the way we use "spiritual father" today . I think the concept is often missed and abused, and I understand why Jesus warned and said in Matthew 23:9: "And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven."...............because many of us dangerously put men on pedestals, elevating them with the title of "father", praising and swelling their heads with pride...and have often set ourselves up for hurt and disappointment. Yes, Elisha was as a son to Elijah....yes, Paul addressed Timothy and Titus as his sons....yes Paul said in 1 Corinthians 4:15 "For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel". However, Elijah and Paul were indeed men of God. There are men today who want to be "spiritual fathers" without having made God their Father......active in ministry, but discreetly wicked in heart and deed....a case of Matthew 7:21-23. On the other hand, many of us are so eager to call men "spiritual father"...but haven't truly made God our Father either....we don't reverence Him fully and honor Him with full submission and obedience..........many of us have active ministries/proclaim discipleship but lifestyles are full of dishonor and lack of reverence for His Word. So, the actual father/sonship that must be taught and stressed FIRST is the one with God Almighty.....................because it's truly missing in today's Church. However, in regards to the topic, Bishop Jacobs is speaking much wisdom about loyalty and the inability to change spiritual fathers when there is disagreement/contention. If one is currently walking in the spirit of offense, he won't hear or be able to comprehend what Bishop Jacobs is saying. Just because there is contention doesn't mean it's time to run off and find a new "spiritual father". If that original spiritual father is indeed a man of God and hasn't fallen from the Faith and become depraved....but it's just a matter of disagreement/hurt feelings, then pray to God for the humility and wisdom to make it right. That goes for both sides.............but if you know the right thing to do, then do it whether the other party initiates amity or not. If your efforts of reconciliation are not received, then leave it in God's hands.......and continue being led by the Holy Spirit...but don't get caught up in pride or try to evoke jealousy by calling other preachers "spiritual father" etc....because then you're being led by the flesh, and such arrogance will set you up for disappointment and embarrassment. It's okay to embrace an advisor, mentor etc...but there's no need to be on the hunt/search for more spiritual fathers...focus on bieng led, covered by the Holy Spirit. You'd be surprised of the guidance, covering, upliftment that we receive from our TRUE SPIRITUAL FATHER alone.

I agree. And our spiritual fathers have spiritual godfathers they trust to be a voice in their spiritual sons life. Connections come with your father. Connections come with your spiritual father as well. Meaning, if you're spiritual father dies, you have your spiritual godfather. If you're spiritual godfather dies then you still have other fathers(voices) of connections you've made and discerned(spiritually) that this is a trusted voice in my life that you submit to.....

How do you know who or if your pastor that has been the family pastor is your spiritual father/mother?

I think Bishop Jacob's View on this is very harmful lol. If my spiritual father fell by the wayside in sin or crazy carnalism, I'd get a new one too. I'm not following someone to a fault AT ALL.

That was Elisha who cried "My Father My Father" as Elijah was caught up in the whirlwind and taken to heaven....and King Joash called Elisha "my father" when Elisha died..........but I don't remember David calling Saul "father", although Saul was his father-n-law. However, in regards to the idea of "spiritual"Father/sonship", we must realize that predecessor isn't equivalent to father. Just because David succeeded Saul as king doesn't make Saul a father......to be honest, God TOOK the kingship from Saul and gave it to David. I wouldn't consider Saul to be a father to David....he never had the heart of a father towards David. Yeah, he gave David high ranks in the army after David accomplished assignments, .but he soon became jealous of David early on, and when that evil sprit overcame Saul, he immediately hated him. There was never the intention to pour knowledge/wisdom into David so that he could achieve and succeed. David was just a man of humility and honor period. He knew that Saul was King and also the father of his best friend/brother....he respected him at that sense...................but let's be clear, Saul was NOT David's spiritual father.

What about the spiritual fathers that lack the ability to father bc they have never sat in the seat of a son? This has become a real issue. Going through ranks are essential to development. My father made me serve in capacities and not just enjoy the experience of being a pk.

So would they be considered a spiritual father? If they have never been a son, then maybe they are just a spiritual man, possibly a spiritual brother.

Bishop Jacobs, it’s not always the sons being rebellious, we must deal with fathers who abuse and mishandle sons. It’s only fair.
