Just dealt with APEGA on this, apparently i didn't have enough "project management experience" i work with tons of people who have never done an ounce of project management in their 20+ year career. These associations are just asking every new applicant to lie. How is anyone after 4 years of work going to be exposed to environmental, regulatory, project management and design work. Should we be applying for the P.eng when we are 50 years old? What if you design compressor stations everyday for your entire life? or just run stress calculations? These organizations are so far off center. I have 2 well experienced P.eng's that vouched for me also...

@@christopherpaul1810 I'm really sorry to hear that. There was probably something else going on in her mind/life that she hadn't revealed. We INFJs tend to start off really positive but we are hiding some bad things that we don't want anyone to see... and if someone tries to probe and the INFJ doesn't want that happening for whatever reason, they might doorslam. Having said that, this sounds to me like a one off experience, and not something that every INFJ girl would do (they could but they wouldn't). I hope you're not entirely put off by the INFJ type, I hope things are better for you now, thank you for your reply!

@@TheSaubzable Thanks. As an INTP, what matters to me the most is truth. It was 7 years ago and I've had plenty of time to make rational sense of it all. Based on the events and circumstance, her behavior and situation, the signs point to an unhealthy INFJ with BPD (borderline personality disorder). I just happen to get pulled along for the ride. I can handle rejection, but to me there's nothing worse than the pain of not knowing what went wrong. I was denied any closure, despite doing nothing wrong. It got worse when I tried to find out what happened / what went wrong, hoping for human decency / common courtesy but she cut off all communication so I was trapped in an infamous INTP "toxic thought loop" for a couple years. I'm fine now and probably better off.

I don’t have perfect 20/20 vision anymore, my right eye have a small script but it’s so small you don’t really need glasses. I do notice while driving at night the lights seem to give me more glare than before. But talking to a few people who did lasik, not just smile said they experienced the same. I don’t know if it is a big difference if I did it at herzig for smile or a different clinic.

I started in engineering but later switched to geoscience. The main takeaway I got from Professional Engineering Societies in first year introduction courses is they are kind of vindictive gatekeepers and that really turned me off to the profession. There is a lot of fluidity in the real workforce in what people do and what you learn in school isn't always what ends up being what you can get for work. As a geoscientist end up under the same society unfortunately and there is even less value to membership. For us it is mostly a scam as they offer no educational opportunities or discipline specific support. So it's basically for a title that most people don't really care about anyway and a discount on car insurance I can get anyway working in my industry. The only real reason to have it is to start a business or sign off on documents. By the way, I work with engineers all the time in my field and having the title maybe is actually worse in terms of competence levels. The system is not at all there to support people but to upsell services and try to pretend it's black and white when it is gray unless you are working at premium corporate positions in very traditional fields.

I am sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience. Shame on those who interviewed you; there is no excuse for being rude and condescending to an applicant. Actually, it even violates one of their ethics principles - the one about a professional engineer treating others with courtesy and good faith. Being condescending and making you feel awful does not sound like courtesy; these people should be setting a better example of professional engineering conduct. I hope this negative experience does not prevent you from going back and getting the required experience, and giving it another shot. Don't give up, you got this!

PEO is a bit of a dated organization, but it's primarily aimed at consulting engineering firms, and it's about highly technical practical experience, as the outcome is meant to be a stamp so that the buck stops with you, especially for mechanical, electrical, structural and civil engineering. Every job is different, and the kind of experience they respect is hypertechnical. Wanting a P.Eng is saying that you want to design things (to make tons of money) and be held accountable to your design. Sorry to hear about your bad experience, must have been scary.

  • @MelonSlicers
