I was only able to watch 12 mins of this, so maybe I'm totally wrong.. But I just wanted to say I disagree with you on some things. And maybe hearing this will make you think about it more. You listed some really valid reasons for still continuing which I think have a much heavier weight than your cons list. Yes its tiring and expensive but every single hobby is. You sound like you still get joy and have fun doing this. Maybe instead of full quitting, you just need to cut down on your spending and take breaks from it to ease the mental burden. Rather than go from 100 to 0, maybe try 60. I've discovered this hobby really is so diff depending on who you surround yourself with and what platform you spend time in... (Example: twitter is more toxic than instagram but instagram is very draining emotionally). Secondly your point about depreciating in value... Korea was a country before the west discovered it and it will continue to be one even after the "trend" dies down. I found that comment kind of ...yikes, to put it nicely.. Kpop is not a western trend. It's a music genre. Korean music will still be made even after Americans get bored of it. There will always be an audience for it. I have been a fan of metal music for a long long time even before and after people talked about it. The fans are still there, they still exist. 10+ years can go by and items that were collectibles 10 years ago are still worth the same or more. Its 3am so I hope these points were explained properly or at leasey enough to give you something to think about!

im super late to this video, but i wanted to watch downsizing videos because i recently put all my albums in bins rather than displaying them and im selling a few of them after not collecting for close to two years now. i really enjoyed this video and it was really interesting to hear you list these pros and cons directly because it resonated with my personal collecting as well. i appreciate this a lot :) i tend to become a collector of things i like fast and i feel like i need to take a step back and reflect on why this pattern of becoming overwhelmed keeps happening especially recently. my collections grow very fast and im the type of person where if i like something it will be in the forefront of my mind constantly but i think that just leads to burnout quickly. a hobby should never cause more stress than it does happiness when you think about it, and when it does its time to take a step back. a hobby is the most fun when its in moderation. with kpop, i stopped fully engaging in the fandoms in 2021 and now i just see a kpop related video/tiktok every blue moon; im not listening to any kpop regularly at the very moment, and all of my albums are in bins, but i still consider myself a fan and enjoy the music. i like having this hobby without it being my entire personality like i feel like it once was. i literally just listen to the music sometimes and see content whenever and im not trying to keep up with every news update or vlive or interview or comeback or music video right away. i respect people who engage in kpop more than i do because it was fun especially to engage with other fans and form a community of friends. but for me, i dont like how it felt like it was all i did and like you listed the cons just outweighed the pros for me. currently, i collect dolls and im finding myself to be stressed when i think about them because of feeling like i have too many especially in the short time that i have been collecting. its a hobby heavily involving consumerism and i feel like having this at the forefront of my mind isnt healthy for me. i constantly consume doll related media whether its on twitter or youtube or instagram about the newest releases or just discussions about dolls in general. although its fun to look at, i think limiting a hobby can be beneficial because it doesn't feel like its overtaking my life. perhaps just watching doll content on youtube and getting off of twt and insta can help me take a step back to enjoy what i do have rather than constantly scrolling through new releases and engaging in “leaks” and news. i think in general with collecting as a hobby, it can be easy to get too carried away and we have to remind ourselves why we are buying these things in the first place. i feel that kpop albums should be bought to genuinely enjoy the songs on the album with a physical cd to play, or appreciating the package design with a purposeful place for it, not to just complete a collection or because i like the title track. a doll should be bought because it brings joy to look at or play with, not to just complete a line or because of fomo. i feel like taking a step back from the title of a “collector” can help tremendously when realizing that i should buy something because i truly love it and care for it rather than just because im a “collector”. for example, one of the last albums i got as a collector was each version of thursdays child by txt and i remember not caring to get them bc i hadnt kept up with txt in a while but feeling like i needed to because i had gotten every txt album version beforehand and i was a “txt album collector”. (same story with the rose). for dolls, i feel like sometimes i will buy it impulsive because i simply think its cute or because its more expensive elsewhere and not because im really in love with it. but at the end of the day a hobby should mainly revolve around me enjoying what i have and, not shopping for more unless it really speaks to me. i can enjoy that new album on spotify and i can look at other people’s pictures of that doll online, i dont physically neeeeed *everything* i like. your statement about selling things to let someone else find joy in them instead of sentimentally holding on to them opened my eyes to sell more of my albums because im realizing that a lot of my later ones involved me feeling like i “needed” to get them rather than me being excited to flip through the photobook. i want to appreciate what i have after downsizing. whether thats taking out my albums to look through the inclusions and playing them on the cd player, or taking photos and reposing/restyling my dolls instead of falling into the consumerist habits of just buying buying buying as a hobby. and try to realize why i began to love this hobby in the first place :) anyway, im really sorry for this superrrr long comment!! (i should probably start journaling) its probably the longest comment ive ever made, but i really wanted to get this off my chest and i hope someone can read this and appreciate their hobby in a new light too :) i really appreciate your insights in the video and im glad you are putting your happiness first!

also wanted to add sorry! that i loveee talking/thinking about my hobbies especially my dolls at the moment like i will zone out and have convos w myself or stare at my shelf thinking silently for like 30 minutes lol! so ive def thought about creating a doll related social media acc to talk abt my hobby with others who share my joy :3 however i think for now that journaling/writing or typing my thoughts down or even taking videos of me talking to just sit in my camera roll can help me let out some excitement i have without creating a social media bc knowing me i can easily let that space take over my life (flashback to my kpop fan acc days) and im already feeling overwhelmed as it is so im gonna try to stay away from doll twt/insta more even though i do find it so interesting/entertaining to see discussions from people who like the same niche as me. but thinking about the pressure of posting/social media drama/unnecessary hatefullness,,, overall im just gonna protect my own peace and enjoy my hobby in my own space that is in only a single part of my world :D

It’s too bad IU’s music company didn’t release a cd single of “Strawberry Moon” with this photo card set. I think that every Seasons Greetings should come with a Cd album of songs or a DVD of official videos. The limited editions should come with a DVD of the official videos, or the album repackages should have a DVD with the official videos. The anti-theft technology has been perfected. K-pop should be about the music. It is getting to be about the artist’s pictures. There are several examples that I have run across: 1. IU Documentary, $80 for a big binder of pictures and a Cd of only five beautiful acoustic songs. 2. Apink “Miracle” single, $30 for a big book of pictures and a Cd of one song. 3. Apink Pink Space, $50 for a large booklet of pictures and a concert DVD with five video performances - instead of a complete concert. -- IU and Apink are two of my favorites. I’ve purchased Japanese and Taiwanese K-pop Girl Group albums with the official videos for Oh My Girl the Banana album, Apink Pink Up, Red Velvet Sappy, and Gfriend “Flower” that come with a DVD of the official videos. These are some of my K-pop Girl Group Treasures!

I can't believe how close you are to completing the mychew cards! I remember how few you had at the beginning, and the progress you've made had been so fun to watch. I think for the t-money cards, they are like collaboration cards. Its a system where you pick the card you want and then put however much money you want on them in order to use them for the train and stuff. So when groups have comebacks sometimes they will collaborate with t-money and release a set of cards. So they are like limited time cards I think? That's what I have gathered, but I could have gotten something wrong! I really enjoyed the update because I love the way you collect and organize IU!

To be honest i think i needed a video like this because i strugle to drop my collection because i put lots of money into it and the legendary "what will other say". ive been debating so much about what to do with my own collection.. i’m an ot8 skz collector (reg album sets that I like/some pob sets/some rare merch) I do have collections for A LOT of other groups I definitely plan on selling when I get the time (despite it taking a lot of time to organise it) but honestly I really do think of what else I could be spending my money on / investing in and it makes me reconsider (especially when I think of how much i’ve spent since I started collecting) I’m going through my pcs as i’m watching your video and i’m really glad I came across this because I know you will inspire other people (myself included) to do what’s best for them like you did for you! I can really feel the sincerity and honesty when you talk about your pros and cons and it makes me go oh so i’m not so alone in the way i’m feeling?? (especially when you mention stuff like feeling as part of a community and not wanting to feel isolated from it) thank you for this video!!

I was taking a break from youtube so I'm so late responding to this, but I just wanted to say I really appreciate this comment! Filming and preparing this video I wasn't really sure what people were going to say/think and it makes me feel a lot better hearing that other people relate. Idk what kind of place you're in with your collection now that it's been 4 months haha, but I'll say that since I posted this video I haven't changed my mind about much. I think in the video I said I was going to keep 2, maybe 3 people. And that's exactly what I ended up doing and what has felt comfortable since then. I think that thinking through what I wanted in so much detail has helped me stay feeling good about my decision, you know? Like I already thought about what regrets I might have so there haven't been any surprises. Anyway all that to say, whatever you've decided I hope you're feeling good about your collection and hope you're doing well~ (omg and you're so right about organizing to sell stuff. taking all those photos and selling all those cards took FOREVER, I'm glad it's mostly over)

Most of them are from the brand guardhouse shield but I think the 4 pockets specifically are unbranded and I got them on ebay. In this video if you check the links at the very bottom of the description, I link the seller on ebay that I use most often. Two of the specific listings I have there are out of stock now because that's an older video, but you can at least see what the packaging looks like and stuff. I buy from different sellers when this scottloos one is out of stock and I've never had a problem kzread.info/dash/bejne/fmFom7KlpqbOg8o.html
