I don't think Buffalo was forgotten. You can't blame people for moving out when they see no opportunities for them.

So many of my friends have left Buffalo in search of a better life, and most of them found that better life. Most say they wouldn't come back if you paid them, and life has been better since they left. Im still here taking care of my 78 year o.d mother. God forbid the day she passes, but that's the day I, too, will leave this city and never look back. It saddens me because I love Buffalo.

Im originally from Brooklyn, But lived on the lower westside. We have 5 different projects in a row. Lakeview in which they changed it into plush homes still the same people. Maryland Towers still the same Maryland Homes they just painted the buildings, The Red Houses Still the same and Shoreline and Pine harbor In which they are turning them in to nice buildings. but it's all Black and Ricans.

this is the same story for all the upstate NY cities. Once the factories starting moving out of NY State all of our upstate NY cities were absolutely destroyed. I just had to bail myself, left utica for Las Vegas back in 98, it unfortunate but Im glad I bailed. The politicians have to attract jobs and provide opportunities to the residents. Such beautiful people and a great area, we just let it all go

Mayor Brown has done norhing to support the black community. Instead of developing a task force including the church, to develop his so called programs to improve economic security, he developed a task force to put more blacks in jail.

I feel that most of these men should have been recruited to the military at an early age. At least, they would have an opportunity to work, get more education and be able to suppurt their community and country.

I’m from Buffalo , love and hate at the same time ! Moved and started 3 business more people support me here than Buffalo smh I wanted to help make changes in Buffalo help bring jobs but because I wasn’t light skinned, a drug dealer or robbing and setting up people I didn’t fit the criteria of making changes I was robbed , raped nd drugged in Buffalo. All I did was work go to school wanted to make it out from being on the east side, I didn’t fit in with the strippers it was always competition. Smh I love my home town and those who still there keep going and have hope

The difference the ghettos have is if we hung on a corner at 20 plus years old our families would turn their backs on us it seems like it’s the norm to be 40 years old and excepted to hang out drinking on a corner That is wayyy to much time on a man’s hands and bad is all that will come

In the 40s blacks were <3 percent of the population of Buffalo, by the 70s they were 40 percent. Now guess when the crime skyrocketed, going from nill to higher than NYC per capita? You will never guess. It's just another Scooby Doo mystery we may never solve guys...

the key ( speaking as professional producer director ) is to differentiate yourself; everyone is rapping about their street creds and how theyre banging ganging etc; think of 1) a way to express some personal things in your life; more specific to you; we all have our own unique speech patterns and ways of expressing things; 2) take that talent and rap about other things too; in the world at large; issues that are about more than your particular urban scene; you have to find a way to stand out? best luck

youre talented;' your film maker is talented; your artists are talented; im hustling myself; trying to keep my family alive; but i would help if i could where i could; i feel for you ; in nyc things are desperate but there are always a million chances even in bad times; up in buffalo its rougher for you guys; theres less but still a way to make something happen; people come out of third world countries that make east buffalo look like malibu; its very hard but there are ways

  • @writerdirect

you need to find a way to package your talent; as a theater producer; i think to myself dialogue could be written around the rap numbers and you could make this into a hip hop stage play; things like that; also every rapper talks about the same thing; how much creds they got on the street; and they lead the street life; you have to find a way to personalize that and also to write about diffrent topics ; everyone writes about how rought the streets are and how they are rough in the street life; you need to stand out to do something that is different

This is a sad tale of a once great city and people . As a person from Hamilton the cities had a similar soul both cities went through the same things at the same time .Buffalo's people I'm sure thought they lived in Camelot at one time too. We still make steel in Hamilton the city has been on a decades long building boom that is still going strong. 600 thousand city proper metro roughly the same as Buffalo. In the 60s Hamilton was half the size of Buffalo. Crime poverty and demographics are some of the reasons why Buffalo has not been able to rebound like Hamilton. Hamilton is not perfect but the city has survived de Industrialization . It took a quarter century to re imerge but the city did . There still is alot to improve but the worst has been over for a while. I remember the great city of Buffalo and the great people that lived there at the time when would visit the city regularly. I wish Buffalo future success. We here in Hamilton are cut from the same cloth as the citizens of Buffalo we would be happy to see Buffalo return to its former greatness. Don't give up ! 45:36

Buffalo was ruined by NAFTA and the Clinton Administration in the '90s when we lost 85% of our manufacturing jobs to Mexico. My in-laws moved to Buffalo from Hamilton in 1953 and left for South Carolina in the 90s because so many jobs were drying up and that's where they retired. My husband and I moved out of Western New York in '96 for North Carolina so that our kids would have better opportunities and it worked out very well. Pay attention to your politics up there because bad politics and corrupt people can bring down even a thriving area.
