Scott Thorn and his Bees & Trees
"Informational Silliness" to quote a friend.
I’m doing my best trying to learn to keep bees alive and make maple syrup, firewood, and get my house in the woods up and going. I also try to show ways to save money or make life simpler. I hope you find this channel useful.

Those trees have seeded and grown on your land for a variety of reasons. But since they have died off, that's all moot. If you don't take them to burn, that's 2X the waste. Wasteful living haunts anyone who does that. You are a good man. Keep on keeping on.
Thank you for the kind words and for watching! I try to be a good steward of the land while I can. I also don’t mind leaving some deadfall to rot away in place for the critters that use it and to enrich the soil. Thanks again!
When I was younger I cut and split all my wood because I enjoyed it and had no money to buy it. Now for every $100 I pay per cord stacked, my back lets me split and stack a half cord. I'd rather support a hard working local than the gas company.
Thanks for sharing and for watching!
menomale che sulle istruzioni dice di togliere i melari, almeno qui in Italia è vietato utilizzare formic pro con i melari perché altera il sapore e rilascia formico nel miele
It is interesting that the same products have different rules in different countries. I agree it’s important to follow the label and haven’t had any issues. Thanks for watching!
this is the beauty of the internet and the community, being able to exchange ideas and pareos without borders
Exactly! Happy beekeeping to you!
Jajaja you did nothing jajaqj
🤷♂️ you get what you pay for. Sorry you didn’t like the free video I made.
I have this conversation with my dad every year and what it always comes back to is that you enjoy doing it. And if you don’t you could sell your equipment and pay someone to maintain your property and bring you firewood. That sounds awful though.
Thank you! Yes I enjoy spending time outside and making firewood. Except I probably should have waited for this particular couple trees because it was very hot and humid 😂 happy chopping to you!
It's great that you get the exercise. I love using wood that would otherwise go to waste. You cannot apply value to free time because if you worked instead of cutting wood then you would gain more stress and less relaxation and recovery time which is valuable. Plus the exercise gained from collecting, splitting and carrying wood will extend your life way beyond the initial time spent. God Bless you.
Thank you! Good point, I don’t cut on normal work hours, either evenings or weekends so it’s not like I lost income. I hadn’t considered that angle before. Thanks for the kind word and for watching!
I always found it a good stress reliever.
Oh for sure! Especially splitting by hand.
Excellent project!
Thank you for the kind words and for watching!
Nice simple video, thanks. I'm a simple man.
Thank you for the kind words and for watching! I hope it was useful for you.
@@scottthornandhisbeesandtrees Very much. I am picking one of these up this week. Thanks from Texas.
Evening. I've got a couple questions seeing as my 3600 came without the manual !! I filled up the oil using the oil supplied from manufacturer. Almost took the entire bottle. Is there a break in period / let run for X hours / minutes ? If so, once broke in, should I drain the supplied oil and refill with better oil ? Example synthetic ? Thanks again.
Congratulations, and I hope you like it! Sorry to hear about no manual. I found my manual but there is no mention of a break in period for running without load. It does recommend changing the oil after the first 30 hours, then every 100 hours after. For the type of oil it says SF, SG, SH, SJ or higher. I’d say that synthetic would be acceptable but I don’t use it. They recommend cleaning the air filter every 25 hours, with replacement at 200 hours. Hope that helps!
@scottthornandhisbeesandtrees Noted. A generator rookie here. Sounds like a 5w-30 will suffice. This unit is strictly for a small freezer, a side by side fridge, and a small window a/c. ( 8000 btu ). I've purchased a several 12 gauge 50' cords which I'm hoping are heavy enough for said applications. Side note: heavy cords are pricey, and are not to be excluded in considering this purchase ! Thanks again.
I wouldn't worry about the spin, it wont touch the side
Thanks! It’s been a while since I made this video, but the wines have continued to come out good. Happy wine making to you!
You Did not Show Where it Go's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s a building video, not a how to use video 😂
Sir how we can know about super install in my hive
I have some videos about installing supers. I cannot remember the names of them from memory. Search “adding boxes” or “supers”. Thanks for watching!
plz sir, provide me pdf for this book
I’m sorry, I don’t have the pdf version. Best wishes to you.
@@scottthornandhisbeesandtrees okay thanks dear sir ❤️
Worst lid ever
This style of lid, or the one I built?
@@scottthornandhisbeesandtrees this style I have 6 two I made and 4 other from two different companies and they all wrapped.
Thanks, at least you’re not saying my lid building skills are bad 😂 so far this one is holding up straight and square for me. Best wishes to you!
helpful but only got hand saw
Thank you. There are some other videos of mine that may be useful for that. If not perhaps other videos will give you some tips for working with that tool only.
High quality extractor, have the layens version.
Yes, I love it! Happy spinning to you
Very cool! extracting honey ...
Thanks for watching!
...bug
That’s why it goes through a strainer before bottling 😂
I'd rather have one bug in pure honey than the bottle of corn syrup that stores sell....
@@Ac3Mustang you get it! I do strain all the bits and pieces out but agree that this is a way to know you’re getting pure honey. Thanks for watching!
One bug in a process procedure of honey which is strained and removed 😂 Go to the ports and see the state of the food that is brought in.. when it goes through customs.. it’s then sent straight to store. You might re think your comment
@@aileronsintowind6835 right?? 😂😂 plus these are the bugs that make the honey in the first place 😂
気持ちいい😂すっととれるの😊
OMG😮😮
perfect,,, thanks so much for this well made , to the point, video. I hate reading instructions so this was great for me. I really like that you didn't drag it out and did not add content that is unnecessary.
Thank you for watching and for the kind words! I’m the same way so I try to make videos that I would watch.
I used to work for the Swedes who owned most of G.E. Mobile Communications in Lynchburg Va. The experience I am about to share typifies their mentality. This video is the one which the Husqvarna website includes within its own pages. I have no doubt the fellow in this video is from somewhere near Charlotte N.C. This would explain his inept approach to the task. I just purchased a Husqvarna 525L String Weed Eater yesterday Tuesday June 25 2024... for $350 + 5.5% Tax When i got the unit home there were no tools with it, but these tools were shown in the operators manual.. However, in the opwrators manual there are no actual part numbers for anything...Those can only be found in the Parts List publication which is not included. I contacted the automated help desk and stated my issue, supplying appropriate model number, SKU Number and Serial Number...plus the reference numbers of the missing tools from the "what is what " pictorial within the Operators Manual. I then received an eMail asking for my receipt to be forwarded through a hyperlink which contained no actual hyperlink. It was also requested i send the actual part numbers of the missing items, being the special tools. I then downloaded the actual Parts / Service Manual from the Official Husqvarna website... There were no such tools listed or shown in that manual... I also should mention that the manual was sketchy and left out critical information which would be needed for an end user to service the machine... This is frustrating but par for the course with people who are known to take underperforming employees out behind the building and re-educate them with a sack of Oranges Think im gonna take this thing back in a couple of days...exchange it for one that has everything with it...then go eat the hell out of a bunch of weeds, then take it back and trade it for something else :)
You are welcome Scott... I seem to forget that myself every spring, but am quickly reminded. Glad I could help.
I was surprised how quickly they had built! This was only about a week after the initial install and fill up. Definitely glad you gave me the heads up
Great video. My only concern is are the staples strong enough to hold a full box of honey.
Thank you! I’ve found they are still holding and some of these boxes are now over five years old. I’d say definitely use a quality wood glue in addition to the staples.
I have two hives this year starting from packages and use the Ceracell top feeder and both hives built comb in the center tower. Just something to watch out for.
Thanks for that heads up! Best wishes
Great video! Don't feel bad about the string not behaving- I tend to end up with a mess half the time!
Thank you! And yes, the string has a much better memory than I do 😂
Mine is into its third season. Just did a cord of Douglas fir. Butt I found in slash pile was 9’ by 34” dia. 20” Husqvarna bar & Stihl chain. When brand new Its first few tanks scared me, as very feeble. Was babying it in peckerwood. Never full throttle, just above idling, really. I thought, ‘well, this junk waste of money’. However, somewhere into 3rd or 4th tank- ‘Rippp!’ went it. From then on I’ve been in love with it. Plan to put some work into it. And get meteor Nikasil version.
That’s good to know, thanks for sharing! I’m nearly two years into this one and I like it well enough that my old reliable actual Husky has sat since this one came home. It does the job I need it to do. Happy cutting!
Is that mead or wine?
This is wine, made from concentrated juice. Mead is on my list to make again though!
@@scottthornandhisbeesandtrees nice, I was just wondering because it looks kind of like honey
Gay music piss bottled
Are you ok?
Yooooo I need a taste test baby
Very limited amount 😂
Looks like pee😂😂
😂😬
sieht nach einem schönen Hobby aus :)
Danke
Put a queen excluder in between the feeder and brood box. They will build comb in the center of the feeder and the queen will lay it up without the excluder... Top feeders are great, they make feeding less of a chore....
That’s great advice! Thank you so much.
That bee got smushed!!!😢
😬 sometimes that happens, even though I try not to.
Thank you!
Im glad it was useful for you! Thanks for watching.
Sorry, but I totally disagree.
I’m fine with disagreeing but based on the balling behavior and placement of the cells, I am confident in what I said. What is your perspective?
I find swarm cells, supercedure cells and emergency cells all over the frames. Emergency cells. I usually throw away the 1st days worth, if I find eggs. If I don't find eggs. I give them a frame that has eggs. They will still build on the bottom or anywhere else on the frame. They have done this in all my years of bee keeping.
I’ll take some on your next swing through this area! -The tall bearded fella
😎
Did you ever paint that wall? The video is 4 years old. I am wondering how the wall looks now.
Unfortunately the sugar shack was destroyed about a year after the video was made. A large tree uprooted in a storm and smashed it. Thanks for watching!
Maybe the marker pen is toxic?
She’s ok now, my guess was the stress of having a giant pick her up and hold her. Thanks for watching!
Better bee keeper than video. We're ally don't get a good view of her outside the marking.
Are you rude to people in person too, or just on the internet?
@scottthornandhisbeesandtrees when you point your finger to the queen, that's where to point the camera. I'm not trying to be rude. I'm giving constructive feedback. This is what people want to see when you are talking about the queen. I'm sorry you are offended. I imagine its quite difficult to direct your videos! You could just acknowledge your limitations. There's plenty of beekeeping channels here. I like your laid back commentary in general. Good luck!
I have 3 queens to mark this year, but I keep going back and forth as to if I really want to bother. Thanks for the video
Sometimes I mark them, and sometimes not. It is handy, especially in large hives or to keep track of this year’s queens versus last year’s. I usually use a tool that looks like a pill bottle but wanted to try something new. I’ve gone back to the pill bottle 😂 Thansk for watching!
I'm more impressed you got that spout on that damn can to work
Yeah that style spout is frustrating! I miss the old style ones too. Thanks for watching!
I can never spot the queen
I don’t always find them either! This was simpler because there are fewer bees in the mating nuc than a full hive. Happy beekeeping!
w vid
Thank you
Thanks for making this video. I needed a little PBblaster but this help especially with the reverse thread
I love PBblaster! Thanks for watching and I’m happy it was useful to you.
I recently purchased by 2nd Craftsman Radial Arm saw after selling my first one before moving. This saw is about the same as your without the electronic readout near the power switch. I have a question I hope you can help me with. All of the adjustments work very well, better than my first saw, but the slide lock is not working. Is there any information you can provide that might tell me how to adjust the lock so the arm can move easier as well as lock in place if needed?
Congratulations on your saw! My first thought would be the see of the lock either needs cleaned up or if there’s a set screw missing. If you can find your model number the owners manuals are usually searchable. I hope that helps!
I just got an X-15 for spliting down smal logs to make sticks for my offset smoker. I am honestly in love. I sleep with the axe under my bed now lmao.
😂 glad to hear you are loving the new ax! I like it for the same type of tasks. Happy chopping!
Thanks Scott, that was useful. We are starting to get a few nice days up into the 60s, so I will be doing some more in depth inspections soon. Bee Good!
Thank you Charlie! We are getting the temps we want now, but also a lot of rain. I’m excited to see how these splits do. Happy beekeeping my friend.
How do u feed the 5 frame Nuc’s? Thx
I’ve used several different ways but the ones I prefer are the sugar water baggie, or a boardman style feeder on top of the frames, with another box covering it. Thanks for watching!
Lucky man.
Sometimes I get lucky. Not counting them until they move in but at least they’re looking
Cool
Thanks for watching!
