  Another thought I had was you kept saying how nice the detergent smelt. That means your laundry isn't coming out fresh to begin with. That could be down to two reasons. Your water temperature isn't high enough. You want as close to body temperature water to wash with. That is probably how your dad got the clothes to smell as good. Colder won't clean as well and masking with perfume isn't the best way to clean clothes. Clean smells of nothing. A good detergent in warm water is all you need to get clean laundry.

  Also back in the day detergents had phosphates which helps cleaning in hard water. The epa removed them from detergents over twenty years ago for environmental reasons. At the same time encouraging colder water washing for energy saving reasons. Is it any wonder detergents need stronger perfume these days to produce fresh smelling laundry.

  A simple way to test how clean your laundry is by using a detergent with no perfume. If your laundry still smells of nothing after several washes then you're doing it right. You could then add scent beads to spice things up and get away with fewer since your clothes are already odour free. You will also have better control of the scent since it won't be some potpourri from the detergent you mixed.

  I don't understand the point of mixing different detergents like this. Other than just for fun and nothing else. For one the scents get all mixed up and it won't clean better than a good detergent. Just pick one and go with it. Foca and Roma are low end. Ariel is higher end. Mixing those together is just cutting Ariel with a lower end product. I'd go with either gain or Ariel alone and maybe use the scent beads with gain as they are from the same company so the scents of detergent and beads compliment each other.

  I chose to make the laundry detergent the same way Chloe made hers in her video, that was the whole point, TO TRY IT HER WAY. Have you seen her vlog? You can do as you choose. I personally like it.

  I’ve been making this before it was even popular and I absolutely love it!! I like adding the purex crystals and Arm and hammer along with baking soda & washing soda and borax. It cleans amazingly good even on my whites without having to use bleach! You should definitely try this combo when it’s time to make it again!!
