    That was so enjoyable to watch - I measure by hand like your mother when I make tortillas...it would be so odd for me to measure it all out after eye balling it all these years. Now what I can't do is roll by hand 😊 she's expert at it.

    Lot more complicated than my fried bread. I use self rising flour, olive oil , water. Then fry it. Love with honey and butter.

  • @Apachewolf
    @Apachewolf10 ай бұрын

    Yes, mom has used self rising flour before. The recipe in the video is made with basic Navajo fry bread ingredients. The best powered milk for fry bread the Navajos used was that provided by the US Government with their commodites program, making for some delicious fry bread in the 60's and 70's. The commodites program when the way of the dodo bird in the late 70's I believe.

  • @MISST..
    @MISST..9 ай бұрын

    @@Apachewolf Oh yes I remember commodities,the canned peanut butter,canned syrup,powdered milk...cornmeal. Canned orange juice too I think...then came food stamps. It seems all these *programs* were designed to keep the poor people poor and to rely on the guv in order to exist 🙁. They gave lard in a can too didn't they?

    I was very impressed how you spoke Navajo so well. Most Navajo don’t speak their own language right. I raised my children off the Reservation and my children lost our language I didn’t realized it until it was gone. I can understand and speak Navajo I just don’t have anyone right to speak it with. I lived in Minnesota most of my life.

    Now I see what I did wrong with mine. First, the recipe I found, didn't include the dry milk or lard for frying. I don't think I'll use the lard though, because my smoke detectors are super sensitive. Secondly, I didn't knead it long enough to become that smooth in texture and elasticity. I will try again though...wish me luck!!! LOL
