I highly recommend you add the edit from "future" you that you added to this video to the first video of the series where you mention blender 3.6, so as not to scare anyone off from the start.

For the floor, why did you choose a cube instead of a world boundary collider and plane mesh?

Great series so far, although I'm a bit sad that it isn't finished yet. In the future if you do this again, with the modeling, you shouldn't choose something like this bumpy top, but instead do a full texture. Trying to adapt what you did to a more normal ground tile, and I get parts of the edge pieces you created that the texture looks like shit. When you go into uv mapping you can see instead of it using a large space for the face it's using a single line, so the entire face looks like a bunch of lines, it isn't immediately obvious how to fix it, because in the uv map it seems like a single line, and its hard to get it to grab only one side, or at least it was for me, turns out you just grab a line and pull and it stretches, it isn't pretty, but it isn't as glaring so you can move on until you can address it fully if you bother with polish. Other wise good stuff, looking forward to the rest.

Hey I messed up one of the blocks and I can't get it to sit in the middle of the grid block. Is there a way to combine multiple mesh libraries so I don't have to keep switching between the two. Plus when I switch I can't see the other mesh library and the blocks and vice versa

Wow, I can remember spending literal hours the first time I tried to learn how to do movement in a game, it took forever to find it on some github, figure out how it worked and implement it. Literal decades later, and now it's just a check box, that's so rad.

Until just now I didn't think it was possible to cry over a game engine tutorial... man, you just explain everything so beautiully and simply, and moreover you go into detail behind the reasoning for everything you say to do, and even how to break away from it. I've been looking forward to this episode for weeks, and I'm excited for the rest of it!

I just got to the end of this server, and I gotta say... THANK YOU so much for helping me create something basic in Godot. I hope to use this knowledge for other projects, and maybe even make my own game! I can't wait for future uploads, I'll be sure to follow along whenever possible! Cheers!

The tutorial quit working at 37:07 on. Trying to use a mix shader on the environment had no effect, adding a HDRI had no effect and, so, rotating the HDRI didn't work. I learned a lot and will work through some of your other tutorials, tho. Thx. I'm using version: 4.1.1, branch: blender-v4.1-release. If it's a version issue, can you supply me with the appropriate version number so I can finish thet utorial.

I need to click that notification bell. I didn't realize you've uploaded 2 new videos in the last couple weeks. I've done a lot of my own things since the last video. Cloned this project so I could learn and apply new things while waiting for the next video. I've got so many projects now though. A couple 2D games, a Sourcelike first person character controller, even the beginnings of a pachinko game. But I always had hope I'd get to continue this project. 🙃

I'm hoping that there is a way of optimising the way Godot renders these objects, as I feel that it is inefficient, and causing unnecessary use of resources. Does Godot have a way of implementing LOD, so that we could make non-beveled versions of the blocks to render at a certain distance from the camera, or to have the normal maps also not render at a certain distance? I'm also interested in backface culling and occlusion culling, but too much of a novice in Godot to do anything about it 😅

I'm really grateful that you're making these lessons. I was a little impatient and went on to figure out GridMaps before this lesson released, though I had a minor problem with my 3D tiles. They were using the Blender world origin as the object's origin, so when I imported them into Godot, the tiles were offset. I solved this crudely by stacking all of the tiles into each other at the world origin, before exporting the file out of Blender. I'm not sure what I did differently: I didn't move objects in Blender in edit mode, which I know would be a potential cause of this. I'm looking forward to what you have to teach next.

to bevel better, hit tab, then a, then you can do ctrl + b, which will enter bevel mode, then use scroll wheel up or down to add more layers, use your mouse to adjust the distance between the layers.

I'm using Godot 4.2.2 stable currently and the SSR option doesn't seem to do anything. I may have missed something but I have combed through the tutorial 3 times and I can't get my player to reflect in the floor. Edit: nevermind it was a dumb error, I turned up the metallic property and it started working just fine.
