U hate Scots?? U better explain that
I love Scots! I have a Scots to English dictionary in my house right now :) I teach some random words to other people too lol
I am from Glasgow and have lived in many countries since 1971. 50+ years, mostly in Italy, I have adapted to overseas life. Now retired I live in the Canary Islands. What do I miss? Not a lot really as I can prepare most traditional dishes at home however there is nothing like Stornoway black pudding or a good haggis. What makes me sentimental for Scotland - traditional songs and the pipes and drums.
Yes! The songs and the pipes. But everytime I see the highlands my heart aches.
A lot of the transport you can use a credit/debit card in london you have an optional Oyster prepaid card !!
People in the UK (and not just Scotland) learned to queue during the two world wars in the first half of the twentieth century because everything was rationed and in short supply. We have never unlearned the habit and are the better for it. You wait for your turn and that's that.
You should come back ti Scotland and teach us how to speak English 😂😂😂 Good to see you again . I was an avid follower back in the day 😊
I wish! The immigration laws got more and more strict :( I miss it. Stupid Brexit.
I’m English and I moved to Scotland 17 years ago. I still don’t understand a lot of the words Scottish people use, I noticed that you say quid and not pound, it’s used all over the UK but it seems Americans find it strange
Definitely have to be very careful about bringing medications, because many medications that are legal elsewhere are illegal in Japan, like almost all ADHD meds, or other prescription meds. Always research the specific medication, it might require documentation, applications, or be outright illegal.
The UK is not europe, Europe is a foreign place.
I stopped watching when she said she is a atheist . She should have kept that to herself. And yes she is right, young people in the USA have no real soul like they should
"O, wad some Power the giftie gie us To see oursels as others see us!" Glad you had a great time. 👍🏴
I really did. I miss it so much
@@SonnieTravels Haste ye back. Would be a cheesy cliche except we mean it. Good Luck on your journey.
I was recently digging about in the file structure of my (Android) smartphone when, lo and behold, I came across the voice files Google Maps uses when it's telling me where to go. In theory I know how to replace them but these projects usually end up impaled on unforeseen problems. Changing the accent is a given but it would obviously have to involve a fair bit of swearing and political incorrectitude!
Worth it.
Still miss us....?
Hey! I do!
Yeah, willst its definetly better here for diversity of religion outside christianity (though its getting worse currently), there is a MUCH bigger deal made about what sect you fall into if you are a christian. Like, seriously.
Sounds like you’re at the bottom of a barrel. Please get a mic. I can’t stand the sound but would appreciate the content.
January 1st and Christmas day are the only days where the majority of shops are closed.😂. They used to close every Sunday and for a half day during the week. That really ended in the nineties. Its a shame.
Customer service sucks big time in Scotland as well as public offices. Compared to Europe, it feels like you've travelled back in time to the middle ages or something. Everything takes AGES here. The disasters like landslides, fires, floods, storms and power outages are accepted as the norm instead of fixing bridges, dams, etc. to make the environment safer. The drinking in the streets is not cool, the number of junkies and drunkards are insane here. On a positive note, the language is wonderful, people are friendly and chatty, they really do not judge you, they do accept you as you are and the landscape is amazing.
It’s because Hogmanay is one of the biggest/the biggest “holiday”
We worked out years ago that religion is a load of made up guff by rich and clever people to control us.
edinburgh is so friendly compared to glasgow especially east emd glasgow is like crazy someone got stabbed near me recently 😢
So friendly! I love it. Glasgow people seem to keep more to themselves, but you find that a lot with busier Metropolitans
Yeah, America - home of the free and the brave where you are afraid to say out loud that you don't believe in God.
Also afraid of getting shot.... Like anywhere. And afraid of getting seriously injured or ill and being in debt from it for the rest of your life.
@@SonnieTravels not really fairytale - that whole American dream... Take care & be safe wherever you are 😊
SONNIE YOUR MISSING US YOUR JIST GONNIE HAVE TAE COME HAME
I WANT TOOOOO! Even during fringe! I'd be there if I could!
As the English say we feed are horses with oats same as we feed the Scots
Middle class tourist shite.
Non-religious folks are increasing in number and shame we can't "come out" more. The USA is trapped in religion.
2023 guy again lol🤷😀..enjoying the old stuff.
Haha I love it!
@@SonnieTravels lol😀, l may start testing your memory on random Scottish stuff🤔😀. I am little bit old school so instagram and other stuff I don't have🤷. Just Fb as my daughter's lives in china and that is our talking place .
@@ThomasOneill-ih1ju I'm down for the challenge!
@@SonnieTravels I'm just going on a night shift so here is an easy starter lol. What time is half five? Back with more later in week.😀
@@ThomasOneill-ih1ju haha 5:30!
Are you still in Scotland in 2023?
Sadly, no. We moved to Japan when our visas ran out in Scotland and lived there for 5 years before having a little girl and moving back to the US so she could grow up around family. We're hoping to continue traveling and live abroad again in 10 years or so
Good stuff. I used to watch you years ago and this vid just randomly appeared today. Well hope all's well with you. PS. It is raining in Glasgow🤷.
@@ThomasOneill-ih1ju Aww That's awesome and I love the weather update :) Yeah I eventually stopped making videos because covid started and I was struggling in Japan tbh I just missed that dreich weather too much!
@@SonnieTravels Yeah co vid was no fun. Is motherhood suiting you?.maybe you do an update one day?
@@ThomasOneill-ih1ju I might! I love it more than I could have ever imagined. If I knew that I'd have Alina as a daughter, I never would have worried or debated having a child. She's incredible. She's so funny, smart, sweet, and so much fun! We feel like the luckiest parents in the world. Idk if you have Instagram, but i do share things on my stories there still :) (I just don't include Alina's face)
❤🏴 Stirling i miss our castle 🏰 and monument and views and haggis and black pudding and people like you who treats us well thanks am that kind of guy that help you out if needed
Subway sure stinks. I don't like walking anywhere near them. How can anyone eat them, let alone believe their big lie of "being healthy"? You mispronounced Provolone, you pronounce the e on the end. it's Italian. Not sure Subway has that though, although obviously I don't eat there.
Its too bad you are atheist, in my opinion, but people should treat you nicely anyway. We Americans left england/europe to be freely christian so we are strong in our faith. As you know. I hope you open your heart to God. Good video. I hope to visit Scotland but its mostly for the monasteries 😆, christian and general history and music (and i like 'bad' weather). Travel safe!
you cant just move to Scotland....there are laws and if you dont follow them ,YOU ARE NOT WELCOME...stick your big American ass on a flight back to your country!
Ooo thats why nobita change shoes before enter into class ....
It's the total opposite here when it comes to religion. Like it's a bit inappropriate here to mention or show your faith by in large especially in the west coast.
Ugh I love and miss that so much
Unfortunately the ones who are religious are to busy fighting each other like their in Northern Ireland, some people are stuck in the past
Thanks for being transparent !
You mentioned students not being able to wear jewelry and hair dye. Do the same rules apply to teachers in terms of dress code and appearances?
For the most part. They could due their hair natural colors I believe. Teachers may have been able to have longer nails too, for example. I can't recall exactly, but teachers didn't have a uniform like the kids either.
I was more surprised that you and your husband didn’t correct and rebuke the guy for his outrageous statements talking about trying to get him to commit adultery in front of you. You seem much more outraged about their attitude toward tattoos than the practice of cheating.
We've argued with our friends about their thoughts on cheating, but it's their culture there. So it's not like we can say, "No, you're wrong." The cheating luckily doesn't effect us because we don't cheat haha But I was certainly offended and made that known. The teacher who said that, well that was a tough position to be in because I was surrounded by coworkers and the principal was there too. So we tried explaining that that's not how it works for us and that Joe wasn't interested, etc. But the teacher was also very drunk tbh. I didn't feel the same way about our working relationship after that either. The tattoo stuff was something that could really effect us, however. We could've been fired, forced to move, etc.
@@SonnieTravels If you guys are moral relativists, then there's no real meaning to being offended. It kind of seemed like that was where y'all are coming from. One culture's patriotic wars are another culture's genocide, one man's lying is another man's pragmatic cleverness, but *shrug* who's to say...
@Daniel Morgan When it comes to human rights, women's equality, animal rights etc. I'm more outspoken, but with the cheating stuff, if that's how their marriages work, who am I to say it's wrong? It's just not for us or something we participate in. I know he didn't mean offence by it, but from my standpoint, someone in front of me telling my husband he can cheat wasn't a great feeling. But it is what it is.
@@SonnieTravels Women's rights or what-not... Well, who's to say? It's their culture to make whatever subjective values they want, since it's all ontologically arbitrary anyway, right?
@@danielnosuke No. Rights aren't a culture thing.
it is better not to have education system and let children learn on their own about the world. No pain no gain let them live comfortably.
I think there's a nice in between that works well
18:35 Isn't that the same for most American public schools? The high school I went to was so old it had cloth instead of plastic around it's wiring and many rooms and even the school entrance had changed from what they were clearly originally made for.
Scotland is awesome
British and Germans love a queue. We used to enjoy fighting each other but we are all friends now.
Pls, I need some information about Japan educational system. I need it too write a research
I'd recommend Google scholar and peer-reviewed journals.
I found your experience with the pro-Christian intolerance in the U.S. so very sad... glad you found a more rational reception in Edinburgh.
You are very sweet. I never have been to Scotland and I have Scottish heritage and some Irish. I think I would like culture shock just because it is different. So, about the atheism. Speak your mind and try not to worry about what other people think or say. I actually am a Christian, but I don't really go to church ever. I don't like how different it is and fake. A lot of Christians are weird and so, so fake. I do have my bible study sessions on zoom. But yeah, God gave everyone free will to choose. Sorry, you had to deal with such pressure and abandonment from those people. At least you are away from that and free to breathe a little. Please keep making videos of Scotland, I am very interested. Thanks Audrey
Hey lass...not all people in America are Karen’s or assh*les
I'm a TESL teacher that teaches 1 on 1 with most students in China and let me tell you, nothing makes me feel more lazy than asking my students about their day or week and basically just hearing. "School, class". On the one hand, I'm impressed, on the other I'm sad.
