Beautiful Love the gold ❤
Hi can you use masking tape to tape all the pieces of the lion mask. I just downloaded it plz reply I love your videos 😊
Sure, that will work. The only reason I use clear tape instead is because I like to see if the edges are going together - but if you take your time, it should work just fine. Have fun! 🙂
I love this Minotaur❣️Your stagecraft masks are so inspirational. 👍😍
Thank you so much! I'm glad you like him.
You’re most welcome. 🙂
You are the BEST at your craft I have to say. 💖
Wow, thank you! - what a nice thing to say. 😊
Belíssima Arte Parabéns 👏 ❤
Obrigada!
Maravilhoso👍🌺
Thanks! 😊
It came out really great !
I'm glad you like him. It took me a lot of tries to get the pattern to have that expression, but I think it was worth it. 😊
Is it heavy? Sorry for the late comment
Yes, it was really heavy. It took two people to take it out of my house. Fortunately, I did measure the doorway before making it, so it fit, but I couldn't move it on my own. You'd want to use lighter materials if the weight would matter. Something like bubble wrap or even crumpled foil inside instead of crumpled paper.
I love your space alien! 👽

Question: Can you make a big batches and how do you store it? Does the store well?
You can make larger batches. I haven't had a chance to test storing this recipe as wet material, but it does contain organic products, so you should keep it in the refrigerator or freezer if you can't use it right away.
This could work for therian masks!
Cute hairstyle
Hello Jonni 😀, I've just tried your new recipe but I used newspaper (reduced at a state of "paper pulp") instead of toiler paper. It worked fine until I put my hand in it to knead, and then it sticked far too much ! I added a lot of corn starch, at least 2 cups, and it improved a bit but I still don't get the same result as you : it seems I won't be able to manipulate the paste as one does with clay, unless it becomes less sticky in 1 hour or 2, who knows ? This being said I'm wondering what I did the wrong way...perhaps my "glue" wasn't thick enough...
If your diy glue looked like mine after you cooked it, that's probably not the problem. It sounds like your paper was too wet. The weight measurements I included in the video for the wet toilet paper might not work with newspaper. But I used less than a cup of corn starch, so I think there was just too much water in the mix. Try it one time with toilet paper, just to see what it should look and feel like, and then do your newspaper experiments and try to match your TP results.
@@UltimatePaperMache Thank you for this wise advice ! For this time I managed to "save" the clay by adding about 1/2 cup of join compound powder.
watching this video after almost 10 years, I was a little kid and I learnt a lot from you, thank you Jonni.
Roar🎉
Love your stargazer alien, he's charming! Looking forward to trying this recipe ♥
Do you think it would work in flat molds like air dry clay?
I like to make dolls. Have you ever used this over a styrofoam egg or ball?
what about insects like it has nothing to prevent it from them i once used made clay with paper mache rice poridge and sugar and my jar was filled with insects
This is a form of paper mache. If you have problems with insects with paper strips and paste, this might not be a good recipe to use.
@@UltimatePaperMache now i dont use natural ingredients in my clay anymore i use ur joint wall compound recipe instead yes its a good substitute when u dont have glue in hand but else it was disaster for me
You could call this one "sweet 'n' sour" paper mache clay.
aapse bahut kuch shikhne ko milta hai aap bahut hi acche se sab batati hai thank you so much
Thank you so much. ❤
Hello! I was very interested in your wise men. Do you hace patterns for them?
No, there was no pattern - they were sculpted 'on the fly.' Did you see the videos? They start here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rJ-qx6ivZseTmdI.html
After playing with this for about a week, I am now recommending that we use it in fairly thin layers (1/4" or less) to make sure it can dry quickly. This is the same recommendation I have for all my other paper mache clay recipes. Because this material dries so hard, a very thin layer will be very strong.
Good morning thank you for letting us know I wanted to ask you have you ever made mermaid scales🤔 with any of your recipes😊 and I also have left your previous messages what do you do with your joint compound to prevent mold from growing in the container?
@@noemid1458 I haven't made a mermaid yet, but I did use the silky-smooth air dry clay for dragon scales. You can see that video here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gXhrl62amrDYm7A.html I don't actually know how to keep mold from growing in the joint compound container after it's open. It doesn't seem to happen with the DAP brand, so that might be another reason to use this no-glue recipe.
Thank you very much for sharing the new recipe Joni <3 I'll definitely gonny try this out, on an unfinished sculpture I have sitting here since a couple years. Made it with your "old" recipe but couldn't get the surface smooth, so I'm gonny put it on top of that - btw like your aquaman :)
Sounds like a great idea. :)
Hi I love you and your videos. My first comment is cement and cooking foil or aluminum foil are like a poison to each other. When outside you may not notice the issue until 1 to three years later. But it will happen. . Cover your shape made of foil with a tight fit of masking tape. The add you cement molding mixture. I pray this info helps xxx😂

Hi Ms. Joni! I'm an art student looking to make some large scale sculptures for school. Is this recipe something I could make in really large batches (ex. 5-8 pounds) at a time? If yes, do you have any tips for doing so, or for larger form sculptures?
I don't see why you couldn't make large batches. If you do that, you might want to mix it with a paint mixer on an electric drill. It gets stiff pretty fast, so I don't know if a cordless drill would be strong enough - one that plugs in might be better. And be sure to start mixing by hand if you think the motor might be overheating. I left a lump of the left-over paper mache clay on my table. It's about an inch thick, and after four days it still isn't completely dry. You'll probably want to use a much thinner layer on your large sculptures so it can dry faster. It dries really hard, so a thin layer is all you'll need if the armature is strong enough.
Can you use facial tissue or paper towels vice tp?
I haven't tried anything except toilet paper. I know that you can use newspaper in the original recipe, if you soak it long enough and mix really well to break up the fibers. Facial tissue and paper towels might also work - it depends on whether or not the fibers will fall apart when they're soaked. Give it a try, and let us know if it works.
I'm not a paper expert, just a retired art teacher. I found that boiling down old paper turns it into a pulp that can be spread out on screens, and when excess water is squeezed out, it leaves sheets of paper. I guess all I am saying is that once paper is in pulp form and mixed in, it should work. Toilet paper just goes pulpy faster
Oh jeez. I would love to try this...but. I am diabetic and have none of those things in my house! I will have to go to a store that sells in bulk and buy a tiny amount of flour cornstarch and sugar just to make this.
Maybe your neighbors will let you have some - just to try it out. :)
Wonderful - thanks so much for sharing so generously. I've uses a diy 'paper clay' in my classes, especially for adding pieces onto damp clay forms. Of course that needs to be fired, so it's a different thing altogether. I'. looking forward to trying your recipes!
You might want to watch my latest video, too. I have a new recipe that doesn't use any store-bought glue, so it's less expensive. It's also really nice to work with - but it does take a little more time to make. You can see the new recipe here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZaN6wdaEkbXPcrw.html
I never saw what you did with the cooked stuff, except put it in the fridge! And i didnt see the addition of the oil, either , not even at the end, where you said you would add it. Perhaps you could edit this and add the critical parts. All I saw was the spackle and toilet paper! Thanks.
Hi Richard. You can see me adding the cooked stuff at 7:37, and I talk about the oil at 10:59. I hope that helps.
Fantastic
Thank you so much 😀
Gracias!❤
😊
Bonjour. Je vous ecrit en français. Je vius suis depuis quelques temps. Pourriez vous s'il vous plait mettre la recette, je n'ai pas tout saisi les ingrédients. Je traduirai ensuite Mille Merci
You can find the printed version of the recipe here: www.ultimatepapermache.com/my-favorite-paper-mache-clay-recipe
Enjoy your channel. I agree with several of the comments about your hair looking very nice. I have an odd question, can this be used in a silicon mold?
Thanks for the compliment - but I don't know about your silicone mold question. I tried the original paper mache clay in a fairly large mold, and it didn't work, because it shrinks when it dries. It can only dry where it has access to air, so it curled up inside the mold and distorted the shape. People have told me that they use the silky-smooth air dry clay in small candy-sized molds, and it works well. This recipe should work for the tiny molds, but you'll need to experiment with larger ones to see if it will work the way you need it to. Please let us know what you find out! :)
I used your original recipe to make a “white elephant” gift to be used in a “White Elephant Gift Exchange” party. Bought taxidermy eyes and used false eyelashes. I used laminated styrofoam as an armature. Your recipe made it easy to do. Thanks for sharing!
What a fun project!
What's the difference between glue and non glue? I just think readymix joint compound is expensive.
The difference is that the Elmer's Glue-All won't work with some brands of drywall joint compound, and this home-made glue does.
If you have arthritis, an old or cheap (NON FOOD MAKING) breadmaking machine makes mixing a lot easier.
I never thought of that! I might look for one at the Goodwill or garage sales, and try it. Thanks for the tip. :)
Love your hair Joni❤️ Patricia

Can never get enough of your tutorials Thank you so much Patricia
Glad you like them! 😊
Infinite thanks ! What you doing sharing this is so valuable ! ❤ Absolutely you are a treasure for the spirit of Art inside of the human kind
Wow, thank you! 😊
I LOVE videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skill.
You're very welcome. 😊
Your characters are always such fun 😊 Thanks for sharing. I also noticed that lovely bird light you had in the background ❤
Thanks - and that little bird is cute, isn't he? You pet him on the head to turn it on. It was cheap, too, which makes it even better. :)
Let’s no-e the space aliens aren’t watching to hear yiu call them ugly 🙈
Good point - but I'm sure they don't really look like stargazer fish. (Or maybe they do - we may find out someday.) 😊
Greetings from your neighbor in Bloomington MN
😊
Thank you for this recipe❣ I tried to make a clay recipe (It was a major fail 🤣) recently using a flour bookbinding glue (diy) instead of PVC glue. My glue came out very gelatinous looking as well. So I'm going to assume my Frankenstein-ed recipe (or cooking the clay in the microwave) was the problem. 😊😆 You have saved my impatient self from loads of experimental clay that doesn't work for what I want. I'm gonna definitely give this one a try. Thanks for all you do!! Also, I think your 'ugly' alien is very cute. I'd love to see how you made him.
That was an interesting experiment - sorry it didn't work. Most of my experiments don't work, either, but it's still fun to do them, anyway. I'll put up a video about the alien soon - I decided that I needed to order one more thing to play with, but he'll be finished this weekend, I hope.
@@UltimatePaperMache Looking forward to it!
Love him

Your hair is xtra gorgeous these days!
