    Go to the CVI indication on the top right corner of your screen. C is current/screen view in 1080p, V is visible in 4K, and I is infrared/thermal in 640P. Select which you want to capture(this affects video and photos stored on the drone but does not affect screen-recordings and screenshots stored on the controller). I usually have all 3 selected. Do you know how to set a flight pattern that the aircraft can fly autonomously? I'm trying to fly a grid pattern for surveying my ranch and counting pigs and exotics. When I setup a flight pattern, I can't set the altitude without it adjusting my grid spacing. When is et my altitude at 150', it makes my grid spacing so close together that it would take 9 hrs to fly 700 acres. Any help on this would be great! Thanks

  • @STRThermal
    @STRThermal2 ай бұрын

    As you increase route altitude, your field of view increases and reduces the time. For 700 acres, as you stated, at 150 ft AGL its about 8 hrs ish. It would take 3.5 hrs using the thermal field of view at 325ft AGL and standard overlap(in the advanced settings). You could reduce the overlap and save well over an hour. Are you hoping to count the thermal signatures after the fact from the collected images or live?

    I don't have a video myself and most of the ones on KZread will be for the standard consumer Mavic 3, not the enterprise. But if you've done the regular "Area Route"/Mapping mission, the waypoints is pretty straight forward. You can choose start record, stop record at certain waypoints, you can use manual yaw and gimbal angle or set the yaw to "follow route" and the gimbal to a set angle(90 degrees). The latest manual also now covers these methods in details. dl.djicdn.com/downloads/DJI_Mavic_3_Enterprise/20240411/DJI_Mavic_3E_3T_User_Manual_EN.pdf

    You’re correct, it would not work well on a bright sunny day. But so does thermal in general. Definitely best under the shade of the tailgate of my SUV or a sunshade/canopy. Night or a cloudy day I’ve had no issues and it’s plenty bright. The key is its simplicity, cost($300 involved), and efficiency(7-10 hrs on this little powerbank). Of course there are much brighter and higher quality setups but they will cost more and be more power hungry.

    Can you overlay thermal image over normal image and zoom both together? If so what zoom distance?

  • @STRThermal
    @STRThermal2 ай бұрын

    I assume you mean like the older Mavic 2 Enterprise(the Dual did this, I am not sure about the Advanced). The Mavic 3 does not do the overlay. But you can use side by side(the SBS button in the top right of your screen) which shows the thermal on one side of the screen and the zoom on the other. I'm not looking at my controls, but you may have to select link zoom(looks like two rings linked together in the top right when in the thermal view) before you get the SBS selection. I personally don't use the side by side as I don't like the waste of screen space, but I think it can be helpful for new thermal pilots to gain spatial awareness when in the thermal view. Hope that helps and answered your question.

  • @STRThermal

    Be cool if we had something we could mount to the PSDK port and scan the area for the tag(not sure if an airtag has that range) to supplement the thermal. Could be real helpful when the canopy is super thick with is almost all of spring/summer until the leaves drop in the thicker wooded area.

  • @kungfoochicken08

    @@STRThermal My Airtags can be picked up from about 50 feet in my house. They advertised a range of 30ft. You could fly really low and slow with an iPhone dangling from the bottom of the drone and pick one up. You'd want to be as close to the top of the treeline with the iPhone though. I put Airtags on all my dogs. The battery lasts a year and its just a 2023 watch battery. It will at least give me some idea of where they are if they get lost in my neighborhood. It has a setting that notifies anyone around that the item is lost and gives them a phone number to call. Its $25 well spent in my book.

  • @STRThermal
    @STRThermalАй бұрын

    I think every dog should have one, but at a 30-50ft range, most wooded areas are gonna be out of range even if you're flying dangerously low. But in the odd chance a lost animal ends up outside someone's house, the airtag could provide the breadcrumbs needed to direct a more focused aerial thermal search. I'm sure the tech will continue to progress.

    Here is a thought. With a right angle adapter so the cable runs across the other ports ( usb C and usb A) over beside the screw hole, take a crimp ring terminal with a small wire in it, put a screw into the hole so it holds the ring terminal, wrap the wire around the HDMI cable and attach it so it puts slack back towards the mini HDMI and removes any strain. Thus creating a Strain Relief. Or possibly 3D printing a Strain Relief with a hole so it can be screwed into the hole. Either zip tie or hot glue the Strain Relief opening for the cable and cable so it holds it firmly. You just have to deal with a cable though.

    A huge upgrade suggestion, in addition to my adapter cable “solution”… The RC-Plus (yes, PLUS) uses the full size HDMI connector instead of the Mini. And.. YES - I said RC **PLUS**!! I have a modified RC-Plus that works perfectly with my Mavic-3’s (original model & Pro). It’s double the size with an exceptional display. It has an internal rechargeable battery and optional second battery that’s hot swappable. Double the internal memory, is much more durable and is even water resistant. Best of all - the antennas are REMOVABLE!! That allows for easy and quick connection to external antennas and/or amplifier. I used the Alientech DUO-2 and just upgraded to the DUO-3. The RC-Pro requires a very expensive modification/installation of external RF connectors. (over $510 WITHOUT the DUO-2, just the cost of the QMA RF connectors and bracket installation!!) The cost for the NIB modified RC-Plus was $1650 + shipping and worth every penny to me. The only downsides = No DJI warranty & only the DJI “Fly” app and drone firmware can be updated, not the controller itself. They rarely update the controller firmware and the modification guy said he’d soon have a method to do the update. Even if he doesn’t come up with anything to do controller updates, I’m still extremely happy I purchased the RC-Plus regardless of the update capability. Oops… forgot another “issue”. Only the programmable buttons that can be used are the same that are on the RC-Pro model. (C1 / C2 / C3 / Left Wheel-Tilt / Right Wheel - Zoom / Back / Pause / RTH / Play / etc…) All the extra buttons cannot be programmed to do anything. They are just eye candy taunting me to buy the Matrice M30t and NON modified RC-Plus. 😉

I was very concerned about damage, something I experienced TWICE with the HDMI-MICRO connector on the Goggles RE (Racing Edition). And… I try to treat my gear with care, which doesn’t matter when everything DJI selects is for maximum fragility. I experienced extreme fear of connector damage when I bought my latest spectrum analyzer, a pricey ($12k) piece of test gear which uses “N” type RF connector. “N” connectors are actually one of the most durable connectors in use, but I’m into overkill. 🙄 Here’s my “solution” to avoid damage from insertion / removal…..

    Depends on your state hunting and drone laws. In my state, Alabama, there are no drone specific laws. It is legal to scout from a motor vehicle. Also, per the law, as soon as you park the vehicle and shut the engine off, you technically could shoot a deer from that vehicle(from private land for instance, laws related to distance from public roads apply). So likewise the drone can be used to scout and the hunt can happen, technically, immediately upon landing. Private and public land enforcement can be quite different. Personally, I have not used it for my own scouting and get a lot of enjoyment out of helping other people, deer recovery, scouting/survey.

    In NC, its illegal to use drones in any part of the hunt. You can use a thermal scope, but you can't use any motorized vehicle during any part of the hunt, even recovery. As the technology gets cheaper, it’s going to be trivial for guys to scout all the best deer and target them. NC even outlawed fishing using a drone. I used to sit on the beach and cast my line out 300ft using my drone.

    Perhaps you can shed some light (pun intended) on an issue I'm having re: the JZT30................I'm getting very poor SAT acquisition and home point lock time when the JZT30 light is mounted, 10 min on my little test I conducted this morning, with a continuous weak or oscillating strong/weak GNSS signal, only maintaining 10 to 12 SATS, maybe bumps to 13 then back down. Without the light, I get a home point lock within seconds at the same spot in my backyard, wide open rural space, lots of SATS. I need to know if this is something you are experiencing with your M3T. Thanks.

    Yes sir, it does happen. I would say most of my searches start in the daylight and I’ve already got satellites acquired before I change batteries and add the spotlight. But on occasion, not always, when starting off with the light it does take a while. I have done deer recoveries with other pilots and sometimes it was me taking a few minutes to get a home point and sometimes it was him. So I would say, it’s normal mostly. Be patient. You could try another test, start up without the light, gets 15 satellites or so, shutdown and add the light, power back up and confirm if the sats are retained(they usually are after a quick battery change). That is potentially a faster work around.

    I tried that work-around and I dd get a faster home point, not as fast as without the light, but it was better. Then came back for a battery switch and it took a bit longer but not really annoyingly long. So I hope that's in line with your experience as well. @@STRThermal

    Are you turning the controller off between battery changes? If so, don't. My experience is that once I've already had lots of satellites(without the light mounted) and I battery swap and add the light, I can be in the air very quick and still have some 20+ satellites.

    I'm almost positive you can set the camera to take a photo at a set time interval or distance interval when uploading the mission to the drone. At that point you can set the distance to the longest interval possible and take any desired photos manually in-between. I will check this the next time I fly. Also you can also set an isotherm alarm to alert you of Delta T's or max temp reading. Make sure to check what your own body heat is reading from the height you plan to fly and compensate because temperature readings are NOT accurate at all since you cannot set the ambient temperature, spot size, or distance properly on this thermal camera. Atmospheric Attenuation from humidity, dust and other particles will also interfere with your thermal temps and readings the higher you fly.

  • @STRThermal
    @STRThermal3 ай бұрын

    Time or distance interval shots are still limited by overlap settings and the min is 10%. There was a method we found after making this video to pause photo collection, a work around, but DJI had disabled that feature. I don’t use isotherms(terrible idea once you understand how the software works) or alarms. You never know what someone is wearing(insulation), hiding under(partial visibility), etc on top of the apparent vs actual temp and environmental factors you mentioned. So trained eyes are best for finding the anomalies in my opinion.

    I noticed that you have the obstacle sensing turned off, but at the same time the horizontal sensors indicated (at 334 ft. alt) an obstacle within 48 ft. reaching the warning distance, shown by the orange shading that was appearing. I'm just curious by that...........I'm going through my paces learning this drone.

    The sun lower on the horizon will do this. Notice I'm facing east, so the sun would be directly behind me...at one point I get a signature on both rear sensors. It was a mostly clear day with some clouds in the west hiding the sun and allowing me to take off early...but I suspect the sun was peeking through. Another reason I turn these off as that would have been causing an annoying alarm.

    Hey I like your setup. I recently put something together as well. I used a 24inch tv with a power bank mounted into a hard case. I had an issue with the mirroring and wireless apps So i decided to use HDMI instead. Runs about 6 or 7 hours from what I have experienced so far. I also, upgraded to the Matrice 30t from the Mavic 3t.

  • @STRThermal
    @STRThermal3 ай бұрын

    Only issues I discovered with mirroring apps is that while mirroring you cannot screen record. The controller will indicate the screen recording is running but the data is not there when you view it back. I reported this to DJI and they say it’s an issue of hardware resources to screen record and mirror broadcast…so there is no fix. I will be looking for alternatives and I still would like to avoid the hdmi cable if possible.

    Is it possible to accurately draw the boundary lines between four pinpoints and mark the area for mapping? Currently, I place four pinpoints, for example, at the four corners of a house, to understand the boundaries. Then, I need to choose a mission and try to fit the mapping area between the marked pinpoints. However, this is not always completely accurate. This is somewhat problematic because when I try to set the mapping corner boundaries, a pinpoint is automatically selected/marked, and the mapping point is not placed.

  • @STRThermal
    @STRThermal3 ай бұрын

    Unfortunately you can’t set your map corners to actual existing pinpoints. And if you have pinpoints, it won’t let you set a mission corner where the pinpoint already is. You can create an area and use that directly for your mapping mission but you can’t adjust those corners to exact GPS coordinates like you can a pinpoint. DJI should allow mission points to be set at existing pins or edited for accuracy but I suspect they realized corner accuracy is not important for mapping as you’re usually using overlap to adjacent properties to get all the images you need. But for waypoint missions where you’d like to be precise, I think it would be valuable to be able to select existing points or edit points. I hope that answers your question.
