    Use this to get length (don’t worry about width). Heel against a wall. Paper butted up against same wall. Do this on hard floor (eg. tile, concrete, wood floor). Rest normal weight on foot. Make line at end of big toe. Do each foot. Come back here with measurement and I’ll look it up for you…or google a Mondopoint or centimeter shoe size conversion chart.

    @@pabloautran1437 thanks man! I love these boots. I got a second pair lol. So you’re 7.5 and 7.75. Going with longer foot, I’d say an 8. That will allow for a good range of thin to thick socks. Get them molded at REI or a local shop. I’m 26cm and I got size 8 and heat molded them and they’re pretty snug. If I went 8.5, heel would still be good and I’d have a little more toe box room. This goes for Vans. Can’t speak to other boots. But most are probably pretty close when you heat mold. You might be able to get away with a 7.5, but I think 8’s would be perfect.

    10.5 is tough. Do you have other 10.5 to compare to? Put them on a table, side by side, backsides down, toes up. If your footprint is smaller on newer boots, go M. If larger footprint than older boots, go L. Newer boots tend to have smaller footprints for a given intended size. The pucks have a little adjustment, so if you have like half a size of toe drag, you could negate that with the pucks. Another thing to consider is that the baseplate is massive on these (ie. You can fit a wider boot than almost anyone makes), so the L’s could be absolute boats. They do have heel locks. 4:25. Hope this all helps.

    Hi I own a K2 excavator but looking to add ravine select to my quiver...how would you compare except that one is volume shift...does the select float just aswell?

  • @LagmasterB
    @LagmasterB6 ай бұрын

    Yo!! I have not ridden Excavator yet. I was too excited to get on the Ravine Select. I’ll be riding the Excavator maybe tomorrow (1/16), definitely Wednesday and Thursday (1/17-1/18). Big storm cycle coming through tomorrow night. I can tell you that the 158 Ravine floated better than my 154 K2 Instrument (volume shifted like Excavator). Excavator is basically a powder version of the Instrument, in my book. Little more taper + fish tail. The problem with the powder I was in, was that it was very heavy. PNW cement. So it was catchy, transitions in trees were not as crisp as they could have been. I’m taking the Ravine Select and Excavator both with me. I’ll give you a better comparison end of this week. I chose Ravine Select > Stale Fish. Don’t know if it was the best idea for my style of riding or not. I’ll find out as my legs get stronger and I ride more varied terrain.

  • @LagmasterB
    @LagmasterB6 ай бұрын

    Ok. Gave the Ravine the full day, with powder and a few tracked out areas. I’m at reference stance but with front binding moved back 1 set of inserts. Amazing float dude. Just effortless. Pick your line and go. Really good at NOT washing out when I cut through powder to bumps. Angry Snowboarder said it best: little damp, retains liveliness. I didn’t get bucked, but you need strong legs to ride through tracked-out snow and chop. Really good at leaving the ground, launches itself off jumps. Again, little lively on landing, but strong legs gets you confidently out of choppy landing. I’d say it’s an A-game board for Advanced riders. For expert riders? Who knows. Nose did dive a couple times and got me stuck. Probably user error. Gonna try to ride the Excavator tomorrow. But man, this Ravine Select is a fun f’ing board.

    I've never been impressed with factory wax. I like to use a temp specific fluorinated bar and a bar of all temp graphite on the iron at the same time, preferably One Ball J, but I guess swix/toko will do in a pinch. The graphite helps a lot with getting the board up to the speed it needs for the fluorinated wax to create that film of water under the base so it almost glides from a stop. I also like to buff with a green scotch-brite pad after a couple passes of the scraper, because it makes it easier to see where the wax is still too thick. Then I finish it with a white scotch-brite pad once I'm happy with the scraping. The black and red scotch-brite pads are the most abrasive and are nice for removing old wax or buffing p-tex repairs. It's a little unconventional, and some folks don't like that it removes some of the base structure, but it works for me since I don't really like structure on my base since it feels kinda grabby when buttering.

  • @FareedFaghih
    @FareedFaghih6 ай бұрын

    I wonder to my self where the point of diminishing returns is. I am pretty lazy but enjoy the consistency and speed of a nice wax. Factory wax is always doo doo compared to what can be achieved. I think new boards need to be waxed more often. I usually barely scrap at all after a hot wax. I find it takes 1 or 2 runs out here to get the base to the same condition as if I scraped. I wonder how bad of a practice that is. Btw based out of Seattle so very mild temps. 3:53

  • @LagmasterB
    @LagmasterB6 ай бұрын

    Love One Ball. Their newish x-wax formulation where you drip in the black mineral bar is nice. They’re about to change again and just swirl-in the mineral. I like the etching effect of maroon scotch brite. Also, I’ve noticed that p-Tex metal scrapers are way too sharp. Run a risk of removing base material. Plastic scraper while p-Tex still warm, then maroon scotch brite.

    Thanks! I love the detailled review. Personally, I am at my third pair of Ride Tridents. I mainly use them for splitboarding and freeriding. To me, it's the perfect boot: With 3 boas, it's easy to keep the foot in place and I never suffer from heel-lift. When touring uphill, I just leave the top boa open. Also, it's very fast on and off. I have always found that the more advanced snowboard boots are complicated to get on and off. Sometimes, when arriving on top of a peak, there's a lot of wind and it's cold. So you want to be able to get riding as quickly as possible. With the Tridents, I am much faster to get prepared than my friends with "proper" splitboarding boots. Anyway, just another idea for a boot to look at. What I wish the Trident had, is the snow guard of the Vans Verse.

  • @LagmasterB
    @LagmasterB7 ай бұрын

    Thanks man!! Glad you enjoyed. I was so close to getting Tridents last season. Salomon Malamutes. K2 Waives. Both for touring. Tridents definitely on the short list. I heat molded the ThirtyTwo Jones MTB’s that show up in video. Toe box still too tight. Gonna go to a shop this week and get them redone. REI didn’t have a toe cap or any way to punch out the toe box. Liners on the 32 Jones are surrounded by a harder foam, so that’s gotta stretch in order for inner foam to stretch. Once I get some trips on them, I’ll do a review.

  • @LagmasterB
    @LagmasterB7 ай бұрын

    Focusing on that area (lower boa) In my opinion, the fabric has to much tension, what is more, the edges of the ankle strap are rubbing on the high points of the boot under the gaiter. If you check those points where it rubs, it is exactly where the BOA cables go... So I think this is a bad design. I love the boot, and it fit me incredibly, but it makes me sick to think that I have paid 600$ for these and I have had issues since day 1. I will keep you informed. @@LagmasterB

    I can't believe you actually said its stupid to TIG weld this. You do realize the only downside to TIG is the time it takes right? It's stronger, cleaner, more accurate, and easier to prevent heat distortion. That is of course if you have a capable machine and the skills to go with it. If you learned to TIG you would absolutely want to use that process for every tool in your shop, the real question is... Is it worth the extra time and money that the TIG process adds for this project? My opinion would be yes. Anyone can learn to MIG weld in 20 min. When mine comes in the mail it will be TIG welded and it will have stronger, better looking welds than if I used MIG. There will be no spatter, or dull grey welds, only a shiny weave or stack of dimes, with no warping or distortion sir.

  • @LagmasterB
    @LagmasterB2 жыл бұрын

    I should have said “for me”. TIG puts a lot of heat down because I’m not that good at it, as I am with MIG. I guess for shorter runs, like this, TIG would be good. But for just some short, solid, deep welds in steel this thick, MIG is quick, MIG is efficient. All I have is a Square Wave 200 and I’d definitely be using all of it for 3/8 steel. Also, it was getting rattle canned nice bright orange. That’s the best thing about welding, many different ways to attack.
