Hello brother (Does the safflower need to be watered or does it depend on rain only?) I want an answer, thank you

Is it possible to harvest petals for dye and also seed from the same flower head? Or once you take the petals, the flower can't produce seed anymore?

Safflower petals should be harvested when they show signs of wilting. This happens 3-6 days after the emergence of the petals. After wilting, fertilization is complete and the seeds will take another 3-4 weeks to be fully mature ready for harvesting.

Hi from SA Nelson. I am growing a few plants at home just for medicinal purposes. Do you just pluck the petals or take that whole pod off? Hard to see in the video. I tried to take the petals and got pricked like crazy lol. But got some and left the pod behind.

Hi Lopes. You only pick the petals and leave the seeds to mature. The safflower I grow does not have thorns.

This plant grows wildly here in Botswana. Look for it and squeeze the seeds for yourself. They grow very easily. I know someone who is selling a potted seedling for P20.00 i.e. 2US$
