    Very nice sounding machine! How do you set the recording levels with no indicators? An external meter?

  • @eudatux23
    @eudatux2323 күн бұрын

    Yes, there are external peak meters for that, but you could also use your mixer for that, if your mixer uses studio reference level (+6 dBU). In that case, 0 dB on your mixer is what gives you 0 dB on the tape.

  • @ralphlauwaert2245

    Very nice but for a real listen experience , you have to rewind and listen again because then you know , not by monitoring while recording because then you've always less wow and flutter and no playback losses .. How many have been fooled only by listening to the recording when it's actually made on KZread.. You are a technical guy I guess and you know what I'm talking about .. Most others do not... and probably a lot of viewers

  • @ralphlauwaert2245
    @ralphlauwaert22453 ай бұрын

    This is just a demo of the recorder, Hans. Yes, W&F figures will be slightly different after rewinding and playback, but a fully serviced TC-510-2 has very low W&F figures, so on playback, it will be not or bearly noticable. Yes, I'm a technical guy, who spends every free minute servicing & modifying reel to reel machines. I just finished upgrading of the amplifiers on an M15a studio recorder, it makes an audible (positive) difference on sound quality. what gear do you have?

  • @MacXpert74

    Interesting. It sounds very good. I do wonder how it compares to the native Dolby C performance on the NAD. A well calibrated Dolby C recording should also sound very close to the source I think.

  • @ralphlauwaert2245
    @ralphlauwaert22453 ай бұрын

    this was just an experiment to see how well TelcomC4 (designed for studio open-reel machines) works with an old type I cassette. It works very well actually. I've done tests with Dolby SR too, and that works great also. Indeed, Dolby C (on a well calibrated deck), will sound quite similar, althoug the reduction of noise will be less with Dolby C when compared to SR or Telcom. A NAD6300 is a very underrated machine in my opinion.

    Hey, I had one of those a few years ago! Sold it on eBay because it looked like a nightmare to restore and I dislike tube electronics. The whole chassis was wrapped around the electronics and there are like 10000 bad capacitors inside. Good job getting it working, I am honestly impressed!!!

  • @ralphlauwaert2245

    Thanks! The main problem with this deck was that a technician had worked on it before (replacing some of the caps and selenium recitifiers), so the most complex work getting the deck apart and replacing these components was already done. However, he made some mistakes, and it took me some time to figure them out and work out those and other issues that were still looming in the deck. The main difficulty is that none of the components are marked, so you have to figure out which component is which on the schematic, it is a tedius job, especially with all the wiring running around everywhere inside. But it works well now. It is a very low hours deck, the heads still look almost new. Not my most favoured deck to work on though, it's not very service friendly, but I liked the experience and learned a lot from it.

  • @ralphlauwaert2245
    @ralphlauwaert22454 ай бұрын

    Congratulations on getting a great deck!. I really like the rt-2022 because there is not a single thing in it that you can't replace yourself. Very reliable machines, and heads last longer than those on revoxes. However, the A77 and B77 are more service friendly, (the pioneer is a bit oldskool with wire wrap connections ) and have more adjustments for EQ. I like the Pioneer as much as I do my revox. Both are very good decks.

  • @bulbousblues1

    @@ralphlauwaert2245 Thanks for your reply. Your RT-2022 certainly looks in good condition. I figured I'd never get a Revox high speed version for 800 bucks at least not a running one. One can say a lot of bad things about Sony policies and stupid decisions, but we should all agree that Sony innovated and put a lot of work in bringing such nice devices on the market. Their product design is often as beautiful as it gets. In their golden era they put also a lot of love in the manufacturing. The fonts, the layout of the keys, knobs, displays, switches, the logic between placing all of these - it expresses some kind of love, at least for me, and not just only money greed and / or cutting corners.
