What type of Power-Knob please? Actually purchased me a new Vanford a week ago and want to also add a Power-Knob on as well. The one you have has nice coloring!

Backbone, Schmackbone. Not so much an issue with 1/4 oz weight. I am beginning to think, as of late, that the type of braking is not nearly as important as having it well adjusted. Where I think the Shimano or other premium reels shines is in the quality of the bearings, free or fixed spool design, quality of the levelwind components, etc. Also in general I would expect the Chinese reels to not last as long as a high end reel, and IMHO durability is the real reason to prefer a more expensive reel, apart from smoothness, fit and finish, and just simple pride of ownership. For most small reel, small bait fishing, anything much over 100' casts is all gravy. 40 yards is great and there is not much point in agonizing over the distance when you can get 40 yards with any consistency while throwing 1/4 oz. No marks for the cheap reel brake setting? Carry a grease pencil with you. If you try this with 1/8 oz and if you optimize the brake settings for the Shimano, you might see more of a difference. But having said that, all I have is cheap reels or elderly used higher quality reels. No way will I pay the big bucks for a brand new "rich man" reel.

With what you pay for one of these you're better off buying a seadoo fish pro. It has storage. Fishfinder/gps. Cooler with 4 rod holders. You can add another cooler you can use as a livewell. If you catch anything you can buy a gel pouch that you throw in the freezer and stays cold.

And especially when your using a dc real which is like digital control brake system or something like that why it makes that sound def it’s about the brakes and not tension knob.

Shimano is not known for casting long… they’re known for smoothness accuracy and just greatness. They’re not long casters.

I have one of those cheap Amazon baitcasters. It casts just as far as my Tatula. But it feels cheap. I bought it to take on my kayak so if I drop it overboard I'm not out $200. Good rundown. Thanks.

I’ve heard on the Suzuki (& maybe Tohatsu?) 9.9hp, you can simply swap the carb & restrictor plate, and it’s now a 20hp. Combine that with a good prop and you’ll have double the power at the same weight!

(aka George S) We are going on our 14th cruise next June to Scotland. Never been on a Disney Ship, not having young kids. I prefer Azamara as they have small ships (700 passengers) so can get into many interesting ports larger ships can’t get to. Of course if Disney includes Blanton’s and Pappy Van Winkle in the fare, I will reconsider my choices. 🥃
