Love the video but why not just incorporate tje natural debris into the art . Use the top wax if you need clear. But its a natural substance. Including the debris. Im ocd as well . But no need to create a new th8ng to obsess over . Natural wax .. leave the particulates. Or use paraffin. Those beese worked hard for that wax . The art should contain the nature

When you are using the paper towel is it damp with soy wax or water?

I did this one fall and wanted to do the same thing. I'd collected some beautiful leaves but unfortunately got into poison sumac. After a trip to the ER, I decided I'd try again later./ What you produced is beautiful! BTW, I used acylic but love your use of watercolor!
I really liked the variety. Well done and inspiring to me. If only I had enough time and discipline to try a challenge like this. My 30 day challenges have been known to take me several years. I feel I have craft attention deficit disorder. I get distracted by so many very talented artists who share their work and I want to try it all. It's comforting to hear that someone else has the same type of ADD (CADD!) that I have. That's the reason I posted this video from a 2018 challenge instead of one for 2022 or 2023 (because I've been all over the place- I am inspired by others and have been playing with watercolor, gouache and acrylic but nothing consistently). This is brilliant! I actually use a hot glue stick for large dots in the middle and a mini hot glue stick for medium size dots 😊 so many focus on the expensive tools when you can sit with so many things!! Thanks for making this video 😊

Does it still work for my paint from my local store Burlington?
I am using acrylic paint and that is what I'd recommend but really any paint will work (although your results will differ depending on the sheen, opacity and quality of the paint you choose.)

I, too, am trying to find a looseness, after years of work in CGI. Trying to find that part of me that just drew to draw in high-school has been very difficult. I have to forget my eraser and just Go with the line. Being in public and drawing is one of the scariest things for me. Thanks for putting up this video. Knowing others get the same feelings as I do in a public place helps a lot.
Since posting this video, I've sketched in public several more times and I can tell you it gets easier every time. My advice is to always carry a little sketchbook and pencil or pen with you, and whenever you have a chance (waiting for your food at a cafe, on the lawn at a summer concert) - just sketch! I'd suggest starting with simple things (like a flower or your cup of coffee) before working your way up to sketching random people. And if someone does approach you, I have found that people are generally very kind so there's really nothing to fear. Best of luck in your creative journey!

What was the liquid in the small clear bottle for?
The small spray bottle just had plain tap water for diluting my paint.

I love how you re-use materials. Great idea to use produce container. So much waste!
I do not understand why it takes you only 8 minutes to melt your resin and me after an hour it wasn't even halfway melted down. And is was in powder. I don't understand . So i gave up and took the big clumps of resin out of my wax and hope for the best.
Hmm, were you keeping a close eye on the temperature of your wax? You definitely don't want to heat it too much (stop heating if it starts to smoke), but perhaps it was too cool? Also, because of the way it is collected, sometimes damar resin has debris in it (tiny bits of wood and other 'natural' stuff), I'm thinking it's possible the clumps you were removing weren't actually resin but debris. Either way, there really isn't a "magic proportion" of resin to wax, it's really a bit subjective (I've found artists who use more than I do and some who use straight beeswax) so I'm confident your batch was perfectly fine.

8 parts wax to 1 part doesn’t add up
Thanks for the video! But I'm new to this and MESSY! How do I clean wax off the handles (wooden and plastic) of my encaustic tools?
Sorry for the super-delayed response! I lay my tools on a paper towel and (very carefully) use my heat gun to gently melt any excess wax, wiping away the wax as it softens.
Had same issue - painting folds in fabric wasn’t working for me so switched to cross-hatching. More control and better result although it takes time to get it right! Thanks for your honest and encouraging video. Please do more - maybe showing how to build up cross-hatching layers to create fabric folds at normal pace so we can see how you do it! Thanks :)

I have no clue as to where you saw a peacock feather that looks likes that. That looks like more of a Sunflower. Maybe someone needs to teach you instead of you trying to teach the viewer. You tried. But for me 2 thumbs down. Go to the Zoo and study the actual Peacock and you'll learn alot. Good Luch and God Bless.
