Love the bar graph for data comparisons. One gripe though…. You need to show a full scale to really compare the data effectively. If I showed a bar graph comparing height and I only used a scale that covered a 6-foot to 7-foot tall range, it might look like a person who was 6-foot 4 inches was way shorter than a guy who was 6-foot 8 inches tall - they are both giant compared to the average human…. Showing a range of 21 - 25 for the pressures is misleading visually….
Can some one explain to me what the 50% and 10% lines mean.
Ya'll addressed all my concerns about your initial testing procedure. I feel like this time, ya'll are actually providing information that can help in picking the best option for an oil filter. It' doesn't look like you can go wrong with the Purolator Boss or either of the top end Fram's. They kinda fall in line based on their cost. I've been using the Fram Ultra for years, and you guys confirmed that it's a really good filter for the money.
Please compare Toyota OEM vs TOYOTA TRD oil filters using recommended 5w20. Thx!
This just confirmed that the Fram Ultra is a good filter. None of the other filters were filtering to 20 microns, the amount of aluminum dust was excessive and the oil wasn't at operating temp. You need to heat the oil to 200 degrees, and weigh the filters before and after to see which one collected the most contaminants. It's a flawed test, but I saw nothing to make me change from the Fram Ultra filter, although the M1 looked good.
What does filtering at 50% mean?
get a new editor i have to go to walmart at 10pm now to get some tylenol thanks for the headache
All these filters suck go with a wix
Why no Fram Titanium?
You actually want a higher pressure difference because that means the filter is filtering more.
Stop the fkn hand movements. You ain’t a rapper. You talk like you are doing a used car as
Great job
Fram Filter Tests the WORST Engineers
I wish you would have compared all of the FRAM filters, as I believe the cheaper ones are better when it comes to flow resistance.
My 2014 4.0 Taco started with Pennzoil Platinum then to black Castrol Edge. Used the Napa Gold aka Wix XP. Other filters tried were Napa Platinum, Napa Silver, and Mobil 1 20k filters. UOA were stellar. Then I got cheap and switched to oversized Fram Ultra Synthetic filter and Halvoline Pro DS( 6 quart box) and UOA are still stellar. Going to the 6 quart box saved me $12 vs a 5 gal + 1 quart. Then filter went from $14 to $9. It’s nice not having an army of half empty quarts all over the garage. I highly recommend the Halvoline Pro DS for anyone looking to save money but needs or wants full synthetic.
Can you please test the new PF63 AC Delco p/n 12735811 with 13 holes in the base vs the older model with 8 holes in the base p/n 12707246 Really curious to see the difference if any 😊 thanks
I change my oil and oil filter every 3000 miles
Nice video! Test more filters, make a bracket to find a winner.
How can you compare flow and filtration between filters if they’re all designed and meant for different vehicles and engines. It’s one thing to have a selection of aftermarket filters that are intended for a specific OEM replacement, but a Toyota filter is designed for a Toyota engine one one type and an AC Delco is designed for a GM engine that could be entirely different than the Toyota. A more valid test would be to compare the AC Delco with equivalent aftermarket options and then in another test, compare the Toyota filter to a selection of aftermarket equivalents and so on and so forth. Otherwise, great testing rig and everything you’ve done is exemplary.
Haven't seen Carquest yet, and why isn't Supertech on the list?
You guys kick ass! Excellent video. I also watched your other oil filter test. Good watch! It seems to me, obviously use quality oil, the correct viscosity oil provided by one's owner's manual, and a good quality oil filter, it is most important to change that oil frequently. I feel it is important to go above and beyond the manufacturer's 10,000 miles interval. I personally change my engine oil and filters at 5,000 miles, even though Toyota states less frequency or 10,000 miles. I feel clean quality oil is an inexpensive insurance policy for a long trouble-free engine life. However, that's my opinion. After the purchase of a brand-new vehicle, I do my first oil and filter change at less than 1,000. Then go to my "normal 5,000 miles increments on the odometer" oil change frequency from then on. Every 5,000 miles is easy to remember by looking at my odometer. 5, 10, 15, etc...
Very good video. I appreciate your hard work. Thanks!
So basically there's next to no difference in what filter you buy lol
We have some Pure Power lifetime filters we are testing in our equipment fleet. I would like to see testing on those filters. I probably have an extra I'd be willing to send since they are pretty expensive. Would you be interested?
Mobil 1 💪🏼
I love your approach to the testing and data charts. Thank you for the detailed work. I would love to see Nissan OEM oil filters added to your test. Thank you.
Many opinions here on why one shouldn’t use a certain type or brand of filter. I wonder how many engines under 100,00-200,000 miles have failed only because of using brand X, Y or Z oil filter? (When performing on-time maintenance)
Would any one trust an oil filter to last 10000miles let alone 20000 ?? Thoughts ?
Medium (singular), not media (plural) , Nimrod.
Appears the WIX is the winner. I have been using Bosche but may change to WIX. Scotty recommends Quality brands such as WIX and Bosche. Thanks for the outstanding tests!
Really should have been using a differential pressure gauge, not a regular pressure gauge.
3rd generation mechanic. We have never seen the oil filter cause engine failure. The exceptions are improper install. Example not tight, leaving old o ring on block from previous filter etc.
One thing is missing... running oil at actual operating temps...
Would love to see some of the JDM tuning companies (HKS, Greddy, Blitz, Nismo, Trd, Sti) filters tested, are they worth the extra money? I’ve always assumed no and stuck with oem.
That fram endurance is the same as Amsoil and royal purple
I loved the video thank you! I am curious how this might change with different kinds of filters for different cars or do you think it doesnt matter much? My car takes a cartridge filter, the first one i've used. I was changing my honda civics filter every 10k miles on a 20k oil and fram filter and ran her to 290k miles until the suspension gave out lol. She still ran like a dream
The aluminum test shows what filter stops the aluminum
Please do the two grades of walmart filters and the Purolator one filter
FRAM!?? You are kidding! Why not do a test on the quality filter WIX and Bosch?
Toyota engines are designed by their engineers to run optimal with the Toyota filters. Switching to different brand could lower the performance and durability of parts inside the engine. High flow rate is more important than filtering for Toyota engines.
Ever test the cartridge style oil filter?
Where's Mobil 1?
Thanks for the test
👍👍👍👍👍
I am curious about the Purolator One filter. After talking to the factory rep, the “Boss” allows more particles to flow through the filter until a higher mileage is reached so it doesn’t clog the media too soon. I was told to get the “One” since I change my oil at 5,000 miles or less. Is there a way you can do the test on the “One”? Thank you and I love your videos.
Hey narrator, here's a word of advice, cut way back on the caffeine ! Just a bit too annimated with your arms flailing all over the place and fingers pointing.
I think the table weights need to be explored more, the weights should be determined more scientifically. How important is flow to an engine should be quantized better?
My Fram oil filter was $12
Haha, I just ordered a FRAM Ultra Synth filter this morning, received it in the afternoon, and just barely found out about your video. Guess I'll give the Mobil1 a shot in the next oil change after I give the FRAM a shot. Hopefully my 1.5T Honda plays nicely despite the restricted oil flow. 😅 Great video!
No... Go check out our newest videos the fram ultra and even better the fram endurance are really good filters. Thanks for watching
So you're comparing the Mobile one that only filters to 30 microns compared to the Fram which filters much better down to 20 microns - and some wonder why it has a slightly higher PSI number? And as for the aluminum particle test - if you have that many ppm of aluminum in your oil, your engine is shot anyway and the filter isn't going to make any difference. I'll take the Fram any day. Bottom line is - any of the premium full synthetic filters are excellent and the differences are pretty minor between them.
