    Hey man, just playing with mine I just got. I'm surprised to hear a brushing sound from the belt that changes with the speed setting. It's more noticeable at slow speeds. It's not loud or anything but in a silent room you definitely hear it. Does yours also do that? I think I faintly hear it in the video but not sure.

  • @videographerstuff539

    Hey, when I refer to the zoom recorder, I mean that separately to the c70, as in, the zoom recorder is taking the audio and not the c70. I would then sync the audio with the c70 footage in Final Cut. The cables I’m using from Theos to the zoom f6 are 3.5mm to xlr cables from deity.

    I was looking for vids about using RS3 pro with sliders and here you are with the exact slider I had in mind. I guess this is the poor man's motion control. I've been wanting a slider for a while and a change in my business focus might justify finally getting one, but I was wondering if I could pair it with the gimbal like here and achieve repeatable movements, or would I need something like the Zeapon with Pan/Tilt head for that (or is there another alternative I'm not thinking of).

  • @videographerstuff539
    @videographerstuff539Ай бұрын

    Yeah the value proposition was there for me with this slider. I haven’t had time to test if you could do repeatable gimbal moves. The start timing for the gimbal and slider would be hard to execute. I think it would just be pressing go and the same time. Hopefully it’s that simple and works well. Once I get a day off I’ll try give it a go.

    Hi, the general benefit to the 1.4 is that you can take photos in darker situations as well as the great look for portraits of the really blurry background. The sweet spot for the 1.4 would be using it at 1.8 or 2. Generally with lenses 1 or 2 stops up from wide open is the sharper spot. Hope that helps. Best of luck on your journey!

    do you have any thoughts on the actual transmitter / receiver system quality? I already have the sanken cos 11d and a couple of sets of sennheiser g4 wireless packs.. just wondering if you have found any quality difference between this and the rode go pro packs? (not taking into consideration the 32 bit float - just purely the quality of audio it sends into the camera)

  • @videographerstuff539
    @videographerstuff539Ай бұрын

    Hey, I haven’t used the G4’s, but I had the g3 set. My biggest problem with those were getting interference every now and then, like that short ‘spark’ kinda sound. Used to kill me having to hand audio in with that. Since having the RØDE’s I’m yet to have an interference problem (without pushing distance) and I’m 100% happy with the quality the cos 11 into it gives me. It really is a good combination in my opinion. I set the rx unit to ‘split’ so that I get each channel on its own track on the camera. If I stuff up and bump the audio dials on the camera during a take I love having the safety on the onboard recording as back up.

    It’s only a straight one coming straight out the back, you can use the ‘tilting stand mount’ that comes with the original kit. I used that today and it’s fine for basic right angle use at 45degree angle but I wouldn’t trust it over head or anything like that. Much safer to use it with a grip head instead. Appreciate this comparison, the Cos 11 are workhorse labs and built to last, they can really take a beating. The difference seems small but the clarity and punchiness are big improvements for me, If placing a lab the difference sounds similar to a burried mic vs one that has some 'air' to it and much more desirable. I'm sure some EQ could reduce those muddier tones in the Rode Lav but bang for buck if audio is your thing, the Sunken Cos 11 is a no brainer. I really wished the Rode wireless pro TX's provided enough power for my DPA 6060's but the Cos 11 is a great mic and mic nicer to hide because of the smaller form factor despite the thicker cable.

    There's no need to chase the latest versions of everything, skipping as many generations as you can get away with is the smart way. Purchase something when you know you're gonna need it, if you don't need it right now maybe wait for the newest models to come out if the current ones are due a refresh, but otherwise just get the gear you need when you need it.. As for the adjustment on the RS3 pro I agree the lateral one is a weak point and feels strangely low-tech compared to the other ones. It requires a strong but precise grip but eh, it's a mild inconvenience at worst, I'll be sticking with mine for many more years I'm sure, or until it breaks.

    The mics are certainly on a par quality-wise, but it would be mistaken to compare them as 'apples to apples' as they use fundamentally different approaches to achieve the same quality. But I don't think that makes the lav2 a writeoff by any means... The Rode uses a larger, cheaper capsule that achieves that quality through its sheer size but then their industrial engineers have to pay for that quality vs cost saving deal by being limited to orienting the capsule off-axis to the cable only. The COS11 instead uses a tiny but much more expensive capsule to achieve (basically) the same quality. By approaching that way, they are able to maintain the much more versatile 'on-axis' design and make it even smaller than standard lav mics. All decisions and compromises considered, the RODE still has a very unique selling point and that's the price, but if you can afford to deal with the off-axis capsule. Currently their approach is 'just don't mount it internally' but that's half the purpose of a lav to begin with. However, I actually think there is scope to make it work, and work well! It just needs a mount. I've talked to RODE about this issue (amongst others) on the Lav II and for the 'off-axis' compromise, I suggested they make a new Invisilav product (that's also not made of silicone because it sticks to nothing, including their own adhesives 😅) for the Lav II that would create separation infront of the capsule to prevent any contact noise, whilst still being able to tape both sides of the mount. They're gonna take the idea to the team and see what can be done, so here's hoping! :) If they can do it well, it would effectively remove 90% of the remaining selling points still in favour of the COS11 (the remaining 10% being rigging situations where having a really tiny lav is just needed), and at a much more competitive price!

  • @videographerstuff539

    Thanks for the comment. Maybe they could look at an option that inserts under the skin 🤣 jokes, But I agree, it is a great mic especially if you are happy to mount externally. For the price it’s a great option. I wonder if URSA is working on any options for them?

    As with many side-by-side comparisons, the Sanken Cos 11 does sound marginally better. By themselves, few people would ever know the difference, myself included. I suspect the smaller size, top mounted capsule and longer/more durable (?) cable are more important advantages. Still, I'm not disappointed by what I hear from the Rode mic, especially considering Rode includes two of them with the Rode Wireless Pro.

    I have the smallrig cage you show and the Battery Grip Cage.. Both where frustrating to use and by the looks the Tilta one could present a lot of problems as well. They both block the lense release button for a start. On the other hand I purchased the Kondor Blue R5C cage, should have done that from the get go. Super rigid, zero twisting, the lense release is easy to access. Very well thought out.. I only ran into issues when I brought the Cotton Carrier Vest (Super Awesome) because the arcus plate they supply does not exactly match the V mount plate that I have for smallrig.. won't slide in..

    Thanks for the comment! Yeah I haven’t had a chance to try the kondor blue cage. That clearance around the lens release look great on the kondor. I agree that is a pain point for me on both Tilta and Smallrig. Man that cotton carrier looks awesome, so you rate yours?

    @@videographerstuff539 It's been the best way to carry my camera period, I have fallen down stairs lol with the camera attached to it and fallen off my bike . Really random incidents but the camera and lenses survived.. I am looking at attaching a Focusrat to the safety clips to extend its use even further.. I have a cheaper option to test my theory for that arriving soon.. that will mount to the vest..

    Glad you and your gear survived the falls! Sounds like with the rat, it will be an all purpose beast!
