Dr. Yalom is brilliant and a highly gifted writer as well As a theorist, however, he is simply wrong or at the very least, incomplete. His lasting contribution may very well be his wonderful fiction (which is wise and poetic) and his theoretical work on group process.

Incomplete....how ironic, how so....better yet aren't we all?

The trick is to avoid the trap of explaining EVERYTHING in buddhism with a psychology framework. Such an exercise is useful, instructive and meaningful even. But let's be humble enough to accept that psychology may not even begin to scratch the surface of Buddhism. Anyone who can't accept this premise would do well to just stick with psychology.

I would be more interested in opinions on wastern mental health organisations taking buddhist teachings and not giving buddhism credit.

I haven't listened to all of this, however, it has allowed me to understand why my original analysis was not effective, for a myriad of reasons. Mark seems to be a very good therapist, and now I have many new thoughts and ideas regarding the therapeutic model, generically speaking. Now days, there are many therapeutic modes from which to choose. Seekers ought to shop around to find the best fit for themselves. Seriously.

It was really interesting to see the process from someone trained as a Jungian analyst who made the technique his own over time. Very inspiring. Thanks for sharing that with the public and thanks to the student (Jessica) who volunteered for sharing her dream.

People who he related to as friends, paid him money to talk to him, and he refers to them as patients. Interesting. Nice job.

Love Yalom's opened mindedness to new forms of therapy like text therapy and video/phone therapy even though he was at first dead set against them. And this is a therapist in his eighties. He's a humble human being in my book.

From my experience psychiatry is the only medical discipline that calls abuse therapy. To state that humans are the same as animals is actually a delusion and a falsehood but they insist on their their delusion considering all mankind to be souls as. As the rest of humanity is not under this delusion we can safely state that psychatry is in an Alfred reality that is dangerous but they consider themselves to be souless animal like which enables them to commit atrocities on the rest of us and then claim that they are doing good. They state that no one can be healed of a mental illness so all those who do not have the illness they claimed in their life was not healed they never had the illness in the first place, this is taking things as they understand it. Therefore they diagnose things not there = delusion. Think humans are souless = delusion . Think that obse4ving a person in their provate life is legal asvthey arw above the law= delusional. Think that this observation lets them diagnose something that is in their own mind set as reality = delusion. Think that terrorising a person is acceptable behaviour and that person must not react in fear to their actions for if they do it is a mental illness = delusion.Think ssri heal an illness = delusion. Think that doing brain surgery that impairs and causes brain damage is healing = delusional. So when they state you are delusional they are diagnosing themselves. If you can see through their delusion and stand against it to protect your life they will then gather together as many as they can in order to diagnose you and let them stay in their delusion as they are right and everyone else is wrong that makes them dangerous to the general public. Even sane doctor are sacred of this department, a department that causes fear and calls itself a healing ethical department is more dangerous to the general public then we can even imagine. Psychatry is called the industry of death for a good reason as they actually over see the disablement, brain damage that cannot be reversed and the deprivation of the lives of those they target. The mental heslth act, privacy act and complaints charter are there to protect average people from the horror this department inflicts on innocent people but they simply walk over these and state that they have the government authority to do do= delusion. This deluded government authorised malicious loving group is so deluded there may be no help for them. Go read mad in america there are a lot of books psychartrist who realise the delusion their discipline is under and will assist you in understanding what you are facing when confronted by this deluded rarified group. There is help but not from the deluded.
