This symphony is the only light-mooded one that often moves me to tears. It makes me often wonder what all that “progress” is about, when man is part of nature and was for long time living in harmony with Nature. The bird song at the end of the second mvt is especially rhyming with that thought. In Beethoven’s world, even birds have feelings to express to one another!

Great string quartet by Michael Tippitt. More tonal and lets say more traditional than the First. I like this 2nd quarter a great deal. Modern ,but easy to follow and absorb. A great recording and performance. WOW!! Distinctly British. Not Teutonic. Tippitt has his own voice . I'm real happy to hear this ! Thanks SO Much.

For years I've dreaded listening to this. Sure enough, it's Françaix and yet it isn't Françaix. More or less as I expected (feared). Not that it's his fault. He was a victim of his own success: His first wind quintet was so stunning, so brilliant (in obvious and subtle ways), that it proved to be an impossible "act to follow." The nightmare to come: Twelve-year old kids will use Quintet No. 2 to "train" their creepy AI bots to write "Françaix Wind Quintet No. 3" followed by , "Françaix Wind Quintet No. 4" [...] followed by "Françaix Wind Quintet No. 77" etc. ad nauseum to infinity. (The relation between the original quintet and Quintet No. 2 is perfect for such training. A marriage made in Hell.) And who will listen to all that garbage? A room full of androids pretending to "appreciate good music and good wine"?

I was about 14 years old growing up in the Dominican Republic in the 1950's when my brother brought this record Symphony home to play, I became mesmerized by this beautiful Pastoral Symphony. Never fails to transformed me out of this ugly world, at almost 80 years of age. Viva Bethoven and all the others Composers, too many to mention.

i heard lots of pavane interpretations and can say this one differs from the others. Some kind of new i could hear here. i not dare to say what it was. Strict definitions are wrong to implement to music. I say only i smiled more frecuently than when i heard the others. Thanks you))

There are a lot of fantastic symphonies to choose from. This one is the most unique though. Perhaps not the best, the most complex, the grandest, but the most special due its theme. There is nothing like driving on a beautiful country road and listen to the first movement. Or hiking in the woods along a creek and listen to the second movement. The symphony was really designed to be played outdoor, not in a concert hall.

I've loved the Pastorale for at least the past 45 years. If you need a symphonic Beethoven fix, though, and you don't have 45 minutes to invest in it, you can't do better than the Egmont Overture. Brief and beautiful. I have it on my alarm play list, so I get to wake up to it every couple months. WAY better than a snooze button.
