So I sold a lady a Craftsman 6.5 hp Briggs with the primer bulb. She told me she had issues starting it. She also “was too busy working to deal with me in person”. So I took her mower back home. Couldn’t find anything wrong with it but made a few adjustments anyway and took it back. She again said she had issues starting it. She pushed it aside and bought electric finding that in a tougher terrain yard with tree roots, leaves to mulch etc it didn’t have enough power. From what I heard she had her brother check it out. He found nothing wrong and took the mower agreeing to bring her back a gas mower with electric start. Apparently she didn’t have enough pulling power but also realized an electric mower won’t deliver what she needs.

Where I live there are about 70 battery powered mowers for sale, all super cheap, 25 to 50 dollars, only about 2 to 3 years old, but every one of them need a battery, and the batteries cost you $150 to $375 each, I knew that would happen, who wants a mower, that the batteries don't last, and cost a fortune to replace...... And most likely you won't be able to get a replacement battery after a few years.

Henry you going to go out of business, no more carburetors I believe we’re still light years away from dependable and cost efficient electric lawn equipment. Batteries are unpredictable today they charge tomorrow they’re dead. A 40 volt badger battery at Lowe’s is $140 warranties are a joke Lowes isn’t a distributor they’ll tell you to deal with badger they’ll honor the warranty you need to ship them to a distributor pay $45-75 for shipping and approximately 3-4 week wait. And who stocks parts or repairs this crap. Electric motors are very problematic when it comes to heat or condensation. You live In Suffolk LI many neighbors have pools #1 issues are always pump motors every neighborhood at one time had a electric motor repair shop I no longer can find one within 25 miles they all closed down so basically these lawnmowers will be like TV,s they malfunction you dump em So maybe you’ll get 2-4 yrs and buy another one. These companies are making a fortune on the consumer. Good luck man, stay safe.👍

Ok, on my mower the solenoid is nearly impossible to get to, under the seat, inside of a metal box that's bolted to the chassis. The only way to get to it is to remove the battery, removed the two bolts holding the solenoid to the back wall of the chassis and then work it out through a very tight opening into the battery opening. So if I want to test this before I cut any wires, I could make a long jumper wire with female spade connectors on each end, disconnect the wire from the solenoid and plug one end of the jumper and then unplug the wire from the ignition S post and connect the other end of the jumper and that should make the necessary connection to bypass all of the safety switches? I removed my mower deck. You would not believe how many videos I've watched trying to figure out how to bypass all of the safety switches, but then again, maybe you would believe it. Thanks for a simple demonstration. By the way, my solenoid wire is orange out of the ignition switch and orange with a white stripe going into the solenoid. This is why I'd like to test it before I cut any wires.

I suppose that divot in the piston could reduce compression a smidge, but lawn tractor engines have such low compression already, I can't see that it would make much difference. My only concern long term would be that gouge creating a vector for a crack to develop in the piston head, but hey, I'd roll those dice. 🙂

My personal opinion. If you are going to sell that mower, you need to fix it properly or disclose the damage to prospective buyers. That piston will eventually crack and take the block out. Even if you disclose, these days most people are too ignorant to know even if you explain it to them. I have a Honda 216 I got with a bent crankshaft. I straightened it with a 3 lb hammer. It works perfectly. I won't sell it because I don't trust it so it's my personal mower. If it breaks on me, that's my problem. You do you, but if you sell it, I question your integrity.
