The Space Studies Institute curates the foundational studies on space-based solar power. Actual stacks of paper and digitized versions are available for the nations and private groups to consult as they develop their SBSP programs. Most recently, South Korea’s Korea Aerospace Research Institute revealed plans to fly a gigawatt-class sunsat in geo by 2050. The PRC plans to put up a low-orbiting demonstrator by 2035. The U.S. is allowing itself to fall behind on space solar, its own invention. Why didn’t NASA attend the International Energy from Space Conference in London in April, along with the other agencies who did? The timelines above are actually a little late for net zero, if that’s an objective. Space solar could have been realized in the 1990s using existing technologies and lunar ISRU. The first shielded free-space city could be orbiting L5 on the back of SBSP’s industrial output.

To many people Carl Sagan was a voice of reason. He was a kind and intelligent man who took on the position of educating the masses. His lectures and presentations were edifying and helpful in promoting enlightenment among the masses. I say bullshit! I say that Carl Sagan was a propagandist who spread hate and division amongst the masses. Under the guise of scientific enlightenment, he justified condescension and derision towards Christians and other believers. And he does it in a sneaky and passive/aggressive way, which makes him even more despicable! Science is owned by the people who fund it. If science didn't help to make profits for industrialists or if it didn't feed the war machine, then it wouldn't exist except for maybe in cloister. Sagan worked for NASA. I think for PR as much as anything. His presence made NASA look like it had a peaceful, beneficial to humanity mission. NASA was publicly funded R&D for defense contractors. Data obtained through the projects at NASA helped the defense establishment to build ICBM's. Sagan was certainly a part of the Military Industrial Complex. In his own little way, he contributed to the war machine. (Sagan wasn't very bright and I am sure he was just a useful idiot.) Sagan and his modern counterparts are copies of each other. They all say the same thing. None of them will ever talk about the dark side of the technocracy. They will never mention that science has enabled copious amounts of pollution. They will never talk about how science feeds the war machine. Leaving out a large part of the story makes him deceptive. Public Broadcasting isn't funded by hippies. It is funded by serious businesspeople who work at large, worldwide, corporations. Big oil, big agriculture. I have seen where BP and Archer Daniels have underwritten PBS presentations. Why would such wealthy, smart and powerful people be so interested in indoctrinating the masses? I don't know! As far as the science he was pushing: Big Bang cosmology is highly theoretical. In order to find out if the hypotheses about the big bang are true, we would have to get in a space cruiser and get a closer look. I doubt that will ever happen. Evolution is just plain stupid. There never has been a clear demonstration of speciation. If you want to believe that slime on a rock turned into Beethoven that is your business. It is also true to say that one can reject evolution and it will in no way hurt the quality of their life. Evolution is a hobby that is used for atheist propaganda. In science theory means no practical value as much as anything else. Carl Sagan got the job because of his nerdy good looks and warm demeanor. It is just show business. Carl is an atheist equivalent to a televangelist preacher. Carl got the job because he looked good on television and his handlers knew that would help the indoctrination to sink in the minds of the public. With Carl Sagan one doesn't get the full story. One only hears what the people who sign his paycheck want them to hear.

Carl talked about these things like they are scientific laws when they are theory. The "1:1 correlation of greenhouse gas warming" with the rise in global temperature is just a coinsidence with the Industrial Revolution, which is when we started using enormous amounts of energy. The laws of thermodynamics should teach us that when we use energy the planet will heat up. Venus is still cooling as a planet inside, and the atmosphere is keeping it from being even hotter- we actually have no proof either way. There are, however, studies that prove when coal firee power plants are shut down the local climate gets hotter in spite of the reduction of greenhouse gases. Why? Because clouds are generated by carbon dioxide and they also shield the planet from the sun. Psychological prognosis demonstrate that it is human to accelerate towards impending doom when we believe it is certain. Computer models only are as good as the theories fed into them. Greenwashing is enabling the use of more energy producing technologies in the name of carbon neutrality. This will only accelerate our impending doom from global temperature increases. Capitalism should not be trusted. Carl was a capitalist. He is worth $5 million even though he is dead. Think about it. What if he is wrong? We got rid of CFC's and the problem seems to be getting worse. The planet cools at night, sure, but the shielding of the sun during the daytime by clouds is more significant. That is why in the 1960's scientists were warning that Carbon Dioxide would send us into another ice age. Their theory is based on historical studies of volcanic activity.

We need so many Carls in this world, especially now. Let's try to be one of them. Let's not be discouraged by the simple fact, that his messaging power seems never reachable by us. If I can make his wisdom heart by just a few people, it's worth the try. If if there is the only teacher, I'd like to follow, than it's him, because his message opens minds instead of closing them. The only way to really learn, to open ones mind to the possibilities and start thinking instead of believing.

For those pro or con on AGW, this speech was referenced on a student radio project in 1990 that included a face-to-face interview with the conservative Dr. George A. (Jay) Keyworth II, former Reagan Science Advisor and former Director of the Physics Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Keyworth was Reagan's SDI promoter and defender, a concept that helped end the Cold War. The project was on the subject of space solar power (SSP), more commonly known today as space-based solar power (SBSP), an industry that we now know can grow the global GDP tenfold while solving the energy/climate problem on the ground permanently. The descriptive notes on this video post lay it out. Thanks to Keyworth, who was a friend of Dr. Gerard K. O'Neill of Princeton physics and the Space Studies Institute, Reagan and GHW Bush became fans of SBSP and O'Neill's ideas on space manufacturing & settlement, which he proposed as an outgrowth of the SBSP industry. O'Neill served on Reagan's National Commission on Space, whose report "Pioneering the Space Frontier", was released in July, 1986. The noted liberal Dr. Carl Sagan had already backed O'Neill in 1975 congressional testimony. Every problem generates a solution, if we admit the problem. If policymakers continue to deny the AGW problem, and misdirect investments, we will shortchange history and species.

An open letter to Rep. Seth Moulton of MA from a non-constituent: Dear Mr. Moulton, Should events open a realistic path for a centrist challenge for the presidency within the Democratic Party, I would support your candidacy for the Oval Office. You speak about building economic security and confronting the environmental crisis. As a decorated Marine veteran, you fight for veterans and civil rights. In addition to serving on the House Armed Services Committee and the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, where you advocate for clean high-speed rail, you serve on the Select Committee on Strategic Competition between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party. Degreed in physics, business, and public policy, you know about the trials and rigors of running for President from your 2019-20 experience. Addressing energy security and environment, the CCP has announced plans to test the technology of Space-based Solar Power aboard their Tiangong space station by mid-decade. SBSP is a stated reason why the Chinese government wants access to the lunar south pole, where water and other useful volatiles may exist in permanently shadowed regions. A mid-1980s Space Studies Institute study found that solar power satellites can be built 99% from lunar materials where, because of the Moon’s composition and 1/6 gravity, construction is a 97% cheaper prospect. SBSP was invented in the U.S. in 1968. Studies conducted in the 1970s-80s under NASA/DOE contracts are archived by the Space Studies Institute here: ssi.org/solar-power-satellites/sps-reports/. Besides China, SBSP R&D is underway by agencies in Japan, India, the UK, Russia, and the EU, and by private firms. Caltech successfully demonstrated space-to-ground Microwave Wireless Power Transfer on 5/22/2023 as part of their Space Solar Power Project, which launched aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Michigan's Virtus Solis plans to fly a demo sat in 2027. Why the interest in SBSP? Along with other mitigating measures, it can solve the energy/environmental problem on the ground permanently while serving as a springboard for space settlement and more distant exploration. The late David Criswell estimated that 50TW of SBSP can grow the global GDP tenfold. Jeff Bezos, an SBSP advocate, speaks of a population potential reaching one trillion people living in normal 1g real estate within the relatively short travel times of Earth-Moon Lagrangian orbital space. The activity can open up dream space and hope for ordinary citizens, so that they can have a sense of stakeholding in an exciting and open future. Lt. Col. Peter A. Garretson (USAF, Ret.), a Senior Fellow in Defense Studies at the American Foreign Policy Council, estimates that SBSP can provide on the order of 5 million new jobs plus some 50,000 service jobs per satellite. The “Green New Deal” proposes economically regressive investments that do not adequately meet our future energy needs. We can do better. NASA’s Artemis program will put Americans and partners on the lunar south pole during the next presidential term. A moderate leader of your caliber can announce concurrently that the U.S. intends to lead the world in SBSP. You can make clear that, as the industry scales, it will serve a potential $10 trillion market for new and replacement electric generating stations while meeting climate mitigation targets by mid-century. You can propose that SBSP will take full advantage of the collaborative efforts of already interested democratic nations and our talented private sector while we win in the space and energy arenas against the CCP and other competitors. To buy down risk, the National Security Space Office identified in 2007 the military as a prime potential SBSP customer with needs for instant secure energy delivery to forward operating bases. The military can afford to pay over-market prices for SBSP while the civilian market rises. In May of 2023, I sent two policy books to your attention: "Scramble for the Skies: The Great Power Competition to Control the Resources of Outer Space" by Dr. Namrata Goswami and the aforementioned Peter Garretson, and "The Next Space Race: A Blueprint for American Primacy" by Peter Garretson and Richard M. Harrison of the American Foreign Policy Council. Peter, an intellectual father of the U.S. Space Force, has responded via LinkedIn that he would be glad to advise you on SBSP and the rather grand prospects of an American-led Cislunar economy. In any event, America needs a hero in government now. Thank you for your service.
