    Silco's crew, looking diwn and wondering what's gonna happen: audience surrogate. "Hello little girl" -> "it's okay" : universal language for "I'm a creep" turning to universal language for "I'm a comforter/protector". In your B-roll at about 0:50, you show a point and click interface in AE for selecting mouths! How did you set that up? That would save me so much time!!!

  • @justpaul899
    @justpaul899Ай бұрын

    Okay, so far I can get a similar effect using the clone tool on an adjustment layer, but I still can't get the on-screen controls like you have. Am I on the right track?

  • @justpaul899
    @justpaul899Ай бұрын

    Okay, I think I'm pretty much there now- or I found a suitable workout. So I created a shape layer, and parented the position of the clone brush to that shape layer- animating with hold keyframes. That *pretty much* gets me the same workflow I see you using, although I notice your example seems to lock into place, and for me I'm still targeting the mouths by hand, so matching location is still not automated...but getting much closer! I'm guessing I have to enable a "snap" or "auto-align" function or something...it's been a long time since I did animating in AE, and I forgot a lot of the "language" it uses. Thank you for the inspiration!

    @@justpaul899 glad you managed to work something out! I used DUIK. I put copies of all the phonemes in a row like you see there on my slider to have a visual reference in my main comp. I also have a precomp with all the phoneme layers in it, and all of the layers are only a frame long, and sequnced one after the other, so if you scrub through, each frame is a new mouth pose. Then in the main comp, set time remap on the precomp with the mouth poses in it. Set a key in the time remap at the same frame as the last mouth pose in your precomp. With DUIK, create a slider in the main comp, make it fit the row of mouth poses that are being used as a visual reference. then I linked the time remap on the precomp of the mouth poses to the slider

    I think of 3D and 2D as mediums for you to "sample" the design, like how a renderer samples a color in a place to make a pixel, and the result is better the more you understand your design, and the more comfortable you are with the method of sampling. I would bet there's a few people who cracked the code and find sculpting ultimately more intuitive than drawing, but if that's not you, which I'd say is the majority, drawing is a better place to start to iterate until you find something pretty consistent that you like. The best way to do this is to be able to simplify the design to a memorable amount of basic measurements and angles, and details you build off of those. And then using reference isn't cheating. You could never draw or sculpt anything if you didn't see it, so don't trick yourself into thinking you shouldn't see it the moment it's most important to. Just try to always be thinking in 3D, and think of it like you're sampling a 2D view of a 3D thing (or maybe sampling a 3D sculpt from multiple 2D drawings) and that's essentially the difference between tracing and building
