Black could have taken with the Knight a few times or also just moved any other piece than the King to prevent checks...
No he cant because it is the only move Hé can do

This position is possible. The g7 pawn would have to capture material on f6, e5, d4, c3, and then b2. Highly unlikely, but still possible.

If you take with the pawn the knight on f5 moves to h4 giving a check the king now has one legal move which id h8 then make use of the diagnol and our bishob by moving our bishop to b2 checkmate if you dont take and move to h8 we gobble the rook and if he check we move to h4 and its impossible for black to check mate faster than white
move the queen to g7 instead of gobbling the rook for checkmate

It pins black rook from going Rxd1#. If Rxa8 then xe7 and nothing can stop promotion because even if Re8 there is another pin in Rd8. If Qxf6 it's even worse for black because then we have Rd8+, if queen takes, queen takes and white wins the late game, if queen don't take its rook and queen to g8 and h8. Every single move loses. Brilliant.
