My door is very close to the exterior corner, should I make sure the 'second cut piece' overlaps the door frame??
Great tip.
Great tutorial easy to understand without unnecessary info. Great job.
That is great news, glad you found the video helpful 😃
Hi.Before painting can i use dawn dish soap and water to clean the walls? If not what can i use to clean before painting? Thanks
Yes, a dash of dish soap in warm water will be fine. If there are any really greasy or dirty areas then you could try sugar soap which is available in DIY and hardware stores.
I bet he’s brilliant at table tennis.
Is this the same process as an internal corner? I've got a chimney breast and TWO alcoves to decorate so wish me luck! 😂😂
Hi, I have also produced a video on how to do internal corners if you look at my other videos. I do hope all goes well for you 😃
Thanks again for the lovely advice!
Great video Aubrey. Not a silk fan but need to paint silk over silk (same colour) for a friend. Any advice please?
Vinyl silk paint can be applied over existing vinyl silk. I am also not a big fan of silk.
They are good brushes I don't think there as good as pure bristle in the long run though
Zinsser has soooo many uses… agreed 100%
It certainly is a very useful product 😊
Great tutorial! I have a red faded metal door, wonder if I can paint white over it without have to remove the old paint? Thank you for sharing this.
Great video. Does this technique also remove the natural silver from unpainted fences?
The silver colour should remain. Suggest doing a small test area first.
Got to do this for the first time shortly… wish we luck 😂 thanks for the video!
Fingers crossed all goes well for you 😊
@@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating thanks to your tutorial, it went nicely! Thanks again. Been decorating for a good while, but only really starting papering from last year… so still learning the ways!
I am using peel and stick wallpaper right now and needed to know how to do inside and outside corners. You are so clear and concise! I learned so much. I can't say I'm a fan of peel and stick though😂 thank goodness I am using paste the wall wallpaper for the bathroom! You can bet I will be looking for a video from you that explains how to do this. Thank you!
Glad you are finding the wallpapering videos helpful. Hope all goes well with your future decorating projects 😊
Brilliant. Just what I need as I've sanded back 5 varnished door frames and Zinsser BIN-ed them. Now the more difficult part of getting a good finish on the undercoats and top coats..
Fingers crossed all goes well for you. That must have been hard work doing all that sanding.
I'm really impressed with this Aubrey, its as good as John's marbelling at Holly Bank if you recall. I'm going to be buying some kit to attempt this myself, mate. You might like to expand this demonstration with a colourized marbelling example? Just an idea.. and French Polishing if it falls within the remittance of P&D.. Joe
Hi Joe, yes I will be doing some more paint effects videos.
@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating I'm just pleased you're doing well. It's also touching to know you're still imparting knowledge after so long. Take my hat off to you, Aubrey.
just a wee message to say thank you Aubrey. I was getting in a right pickle until I watched this. Your tutorials have really helped me. First time wallpapering. My wee place looks great and I'm very happy with the result. 🥰xx
That is brilliant news, glad all went well for you 😊
i've got a varnished door, can i use the bullseye 1.2.3 on it and then apply gloss paint?
Yes that should be fine but I would give it a rub down with a 24o grade abrasive paper first to ensure good adhesion.
@@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating Thank you so much for replying so quickly.
Thank you for this very helpful information! I’m in the process of purchasing a small house in Indiana that was built in 1933…and it has pine woodwork and doorways, throughout. (Its best feature is that it is located only a three-minute walk from where my daughter and her loving husband live.) Naturally, the doorways and woodwork have been quite marked up and scarred, over the years. So, in addition to making the doors and woodwork look much better, I’m looking forward to giving the house a bright white environment, throughout -- especially, in the very small kitchen with arched doorways. Your detailed instructions were exactly what I needed to hear as I make preparations to work on the house. That I’m praying well soon be “mine”. Thank you, again, so very much, for your sensible and detailed instructions! By the way, my maternal grandparents were originally from England and Wales…and this happens to be the anniversary of the birth of my wonderful great grandmother- - the original Memorial Day of May 29. She was a woman who loved to give hugs and always wore an apron. We were privileged to have her with us until she was 92 years old, and I was fortunate to have many more memories of her. She lived in a very small house with no running water, so I look forward to knowing that I am blessed to be living in a very small house with all the modern conveniences, and making my home very warm and welcoming, just as hers was.
Hi, glad you found the video helpful. Your new (old) house sounds great. Good to hear it is so close to your daughter, you must be so pleased. Indiana does look a large and exciting place to be with such a mix of places to see. Choosing a white paint scheme for your house should make it look bright and you can then add accent colours with your furnishings. I am from the South of England but have taught in a Welsh College which I found very enjoyable. Hope your decorating projects go well and that you have many happy years in your new house 😊
No need to cut at the bottom
I painted 1 of 4 walls in silk paint and did not like she shine showed all the imperfections so Ived filled and sanded wall with P60 sandpaper would that still be okay? And just quickly wiped the dust off the wall. I’m painting it in Matt tomorrow
Yes, that should be ok. Hope all goes well with the decorating.
Excellent. Thorough and first class explanations. Please keep up the good work, You're a star. Thanks for that.
Thank you for your kind comment. Glad you found the video helpful 😊
I'll take a look...it must be good if you're responsible, Aubrey.
Hello, will turpentine work the same instead using methylated Spirit when testing the old paint. It just that I have turpentine in the garage and not sure if you can use that instead.
Sorry Terry but you do need to use the methylated spirit for this purpose.
@@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating thank you
Aubrey....I've got one for you!!#@ How about a demonstration of Marballing? Always found this fascinating when demonstrated at Holly Bank if you remember mate.
Yep, already done one of those if you check out the videos. Hope all is well with you Joe. 34 Years ago at Holly Bank doing the old teacher training 😊
@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating Hi Aubrey.. you haven't aged a bit!!
This is giving me ideas of what to do since I've never decorated before but so eager to learn thanks
Glad you are finding the videos helpful, hope all goes well with the decorating projects 😊
Once again, fascinating. I'm signing up for a P&D course at my local tech college 😊
Fantastic.....you remind me of a chap, I once knew at Huddersfield Poly!!
Thank you
You're welcome 😊
Used to do it your way years ago but now I just take the radiator off first . Much easier. But I know some people aren’t confident taking the radiator off . So your way is good advice, nice job 👍
Thank you sir 😚
Most welcome
I feel like Aubrey has a massive dong. He exude big .... energy.
Took a bit of searching but once i found your page i knew I'd hit paydirt. Absolutely excellent presentation. Followed your advice to a T with excellent results. Thank you so much.
That is great news, glad all went well for you 😊
Hi, what about painting matt over soft sheen, do I still need to do the same as with silk?
I would to be on the safe side.
Hi mate, try to bring nice and professional camera to help people watch clearly. Please reply to my comments. Thank you
I have never found a water based undercoat/primer that gives adequate adhesion. Dulux oil based undercoat is the only product that has never let me down
How would you paper behind PVC trunking?
If the trunking is fixed firmly to the wall surfaces then I would probably trim around it using a snap off blade knife and a metal caulking tool.
Great video. But I'd still rather you come and paint my doors for me
How do you stop getting runs from bottom edges of panels, tied laying off n wiping back?
Yes this is a common problem. You have to limit the amount of paint when applying around the edges of the panels and do as you suggested.
You are such a master. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for your very kind comment 😊
Just reach around the ladder.......
What do you think is the best way to paint a pvc coated fireplace? And whats the best paint for that?
You could try applying two coats of Zinsser Bullseye 123 followed by one or two coats of water based satinwood or acrylic eggshell. Hope all goes well for you 😊
@@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating thanks so much! :D
Can you show me another close up video of you pasting wallpaper? I'd like to see what motion you are doing it in thanks.
23:09 You make it look so easy Aubrey, the video was brilliantly done nice and steady and a perfect finish at the end 👍
Thank you 😊
Er, by the time you have farted around doing this you could have just taken the radiator off the wall, as most people would. So much easier.
Very helpful and informative - thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Your work is so wonderful and I want to learn from you. I have already started practicing marble work on my channel, but I am still missing a lot. I would like you to guide me where to start??
Thank you . Gonna give this a go today.
Hope all goes well for you.
Looks amazing. Took my time and followed your instructions.
Brilliant news, glad all turned out well for you 😊
So, how did you get rid of the air pocket at the mid point of the corner of the wall, due to the corner of the wall not being 90 cegree angle? You didn't show that?
