    Got myself a 2533.50 america's cup and a few cool extra details about it. It has a 18kt white gold insert on the bezel and on the back of the watch you can find the watches number out of the 9999 produced.

    Got one of these a month or two ago. Number 1,892. Really like it. But i wear mine every single day so i wont be trying to resell mine. Also yours is the first i have seen without full charge 😂. Mines the sapphire crystal, yours is the mineral crystal right? Just read description and yeah yours is mineral. Glad i got sapphire, didnt know mineral was easily scratched.

  • @omegawatchfan

    The sapphire is great to have on these. Because the crystal really does not have any protection from the bezel, the mineral ones get very scratched up easily.

    Great video! I am looking to but a steel watch. Can you provide info into the quality of the Omega vs. Hamilton. Are they using a special type of steel? Is there a finish on the polishing (i.e. scratch resistant) that one should consider? I have tried to find what makes a bracelet far superior than another as you stated about the Omega, but have not been able to find info on this as a newbie to the watch world. Please provide insight (materials/engineering) as to what goes into making the Omega a far superior watch. Thank you!

  • @omegawatchfan
    @omegawatchfanАй бұрын

    Thanks. There is really no difference in the type of steel used nor any difference in scratch resistance. Where the difference lies is more in the manufacturing. The tolerances for the bracelet are much less on the Omega resulting in a more well put together finished product (though the Hamilton is not bad in this regard). You will also see better finishing of edges and design elements that require more work to produce (such as the twisted or lyre lugs on the Omega). The crystals are different as well, with the Omega having excellent anti glare coating while Hamiltons usually completely lack that feature. The dials on both are nice but the Omega's is more intricate and almost glows especially in combination with the superior crystal. Despite all this, I still believe the Hamilton is an excellent product for the price and I wear mine regularly.

    I think my favorite quartz Seamasters are the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terras, they are so nice! A nice 36mm Seamaster Aqua Terra is just about the perfect GADA.

  • @omegawatchfan
    @omegawatchfanАй бұрын

    Agree, hard to find a better GADA. Especially the quartz versions which are low maintenance. The 2nd gen quartz AT (38.5mm case) is probably my 1st choice in that regard, followed closely by the 1st gen quartz AT.

    Fortunately for you, you have both these great watches, but if you had to choose one over the other, which would it be?

  • @omegawatchfan
    @omegawatchfanАй бұрын

    Perhaps I am in the minority but I prefer the older 8500 movement Aqua Terra. I like the case shape and bracelet design better on that one. It has longer lugs and the bracelet links are less flat, giving the whole watch a more "sculpted" look for lack of a better word. The dials on both the 8500 and 8900/8800 are beautiful and the clasp on the 8900 I find to be more comfortable, but I have to give the edge to the 8500 due to the overall appearance.

    Nice review, I have one of these in the larger 41mm size bought new in 2004 and it is still going strong. I love it esp for travel due to ETA quick hour hand shift for time zone/date adjustment, also for it’s a “tank” like robustness/durability. Only complaint is the bezel can be near impossible to turn due to the scalloped edges not offering a solid grip if my hands are wet.

  • @omegawatchfan
    @omegawatchfanАй бұрын

    I completely agree on the bezel and believe it's one of the few shortcomings of an otherwise great watch. The bezel looks nice but it is not very useful and difficult to turn. And if the bezel becomes worn through wear or polishing it becomes near impossible to get a grip on it. The Planet Ocean bezel in comparison is very easy to turn.

    How much thicker is the 2230.50? Do you know the thickness? I'm thinking about buying it instead of the 2254 but worry it might be too thick

  • @omegawatchfan
    @omegawatchfanАй бұрын

    I don't have a measurement but it is noticeably thicker and the watch is more top-heavy as well. While I like the 2230 dial a lot, I think the 2254 ultimately has better proportions and is superior in comfort.

  • @AlexChenny
    @AlexChennyАй бұрын

    I’m thinking about buying a 2230.50 right now and swapping the bezel insert. Do you think that’s a good idea? Would that resolve the top heavy issue? I really like the slimness of the 2254.50 but if 2231.50 is noticeably thicker then I might not do that.

  • @omegawatchfan
    @omegawatchfanАй бұрын

    Hi, I just saw this reply. The bezel insert for the 2254 is thinner than the one for the 2230, so it may sit too low in the 2230 bezel (the 2230 bezel itself is thicker than the 2254 bezel, to accommodate the thicker insert). However, I have never seen that done before so maybe it would look ok. I think a straight swap of the bezel might be better than only swapping the insert. It is a shame, some years ago it was possible to get those nice dials and just swap them into the 2254, but parts are much harder to find now.

    I've had have the 2264.5 for almost 20 years and really dig. Still the best lume of any watch I own. And love the sword style hands. But in a moment of madness (about 15 years ago or so), I decided I liked the smaller numerals of the bezel insert on 212.30.41.61.01.001 and switched out the bezels. Looks pretty good IMO, but scratched the lugs a bit getting the original bezel off. Never realized that this watch would become kind of a classic. Glad I kept the original insert, but some scuffs were made.

  • @omegawatchfan
    @omegawatchfan2 ай бұрын

    I am very open to switching bezels and trying out different looks, but the smaller numerals generally match up better with the dials that have the small indices and vice versa. Though that did not stop me from putting a 2264.50 bezel on a 2532.20 (white dial "bond" smp), which I really like despite the mismatched dial and bezel.

    Looks good. Is the weight of the bracelet on par with the weight of the watch ? I have the same watch with OEM bracelet and the weight is well on par. I have a Forstner 1450 on a Speedy and the bracelet is a bit lighter, the steel feels less dense.

  • @omegawatchfan
    @omegawatchfan2 ай бұрын

    The OEM bracelet is definitely heavier than the Forstner and better balanced with the weight of the watch head. As you said, the steel of the Forstner feels quite light, however, I still find it comfortable even with my co-axial Seamaster which is slightly heavier than the quartz Seamaster. Considering the Forstner is much less costly than the OEM, I can live with the lack of weight.

    Thank you. I got it from eBay a long time ago when they were much cheaper (under $100). You might want to try calling an Omega boutique, some of them are willing to sell parts like this. These are the part numbers for the clasps that can be used: 117STZ004666 - 3 clicks adjustment 117STZ001154 - 6 clicks adjustment 117STZ001159 - 6 clicks adjustment w/diver extension If you want to install the clasp on the older type of bracelet like the one in my video, then you would also need two clasp links (part no. 118ST1589), four screws (3307), and two pins (0166).

    How long will this be supported for? My concern is that after a couple of decades you may not be able to get a replacement movement considering it will be 40yrs old by then

  • @omegawatchfan
    @omegawatchfan2 ай бұрын

    I don't think it should be a concern because the 1538 is identical to ETA 255.461, which is used in many watches, and since ETA is part of Swatch like Omega, the movements should be available. In the event it is superseded by another movement, the new one could substitute for the old version (as has happened before). And in a worst case scenario if the movement for some reason is no longer made, the huge number of these movements in existence already would ensure that spares and parts will be always available.

    That is a beautiful watch. I used to have the 2518.80 (blue 36mm Aqua Terra quartz). As much as I love the 120m, I feel the Aqua Terra design is cleaner and much more timeless (this goes for the dial, case and bracelet), so I wouldn't regret buying it. I think the "timelessness" also explains why we see much greater demand for Aqua Terras in comparison with the 120m today.
