    Great video, camera angle is really good. Nice to see the good old XR3 front brake disc warp is alive and well!! Rear could do with a bit of loosening to get it move around a little more and kill some of the understeer perhaps? Easy to say sitting in my chair!

    Thanks very much!!! I thought the front brakes had just got hot last time out at Oulton Park, I didn't realise I'd properly warped them, it was a 45" race though. Got some new front discs on the way. Also trying to get hold of a rear anti roll bar setup to make the back of the car stiffer

    Hi Jake. Great racing, cool vid. The best bit - shaking that mini drivers hand at the end, superb! A few years ago the firm I work with sponsored a driver in the British Endurance Championship & sadly, towards end of season, sportsmanship was lacking with our sponsored car being deliberately taken out on the last bend at Brands during the night race. I've watched a few of your videos now and being involved in car racing (pit crew and the occasional laps on orientation days) I do have a few comments. Firstly, isn't the XR3 a 5 speed? I would have thought that using all the gears would get you better results, but I'm a road "driver", I only "race" against myself and the road, lawfully of course, well exept for breaking the speed limit occasionally but only on an empty road, which we do actuallyget here in Australia. You seem to have the right attitude and application for circuit racing but unfortunately the wrong car, but we all have to learn to crawl before we can walk. I don't know how long you have been racing but I wish you all the very best at it 😎👍

  • @jakemargaliesracing
    @jakemargaliesracing Жыл бұрын

    Hi Mark. Great question. Using an RS Turbo gearbox, diff ratio is a little bit too long, so on the majority of UK circuits, 3rd and 4th is all you need. The straights at Silverstone would be long enough to need 5th gear. I got to race my dad's Alfa Romeo GTV6 last year which is A LOT faster. Low power cars tend to be more affordable to run over a year.

    @@jakemargaliesracing thanks for your reply. The RX3 wasn't very popular here and being a MOPAR man, I didn't have anything to do with them. I know this might be a dumb question - I read in another Video description of yours, that there’s no Power Steering in this car (as was the case for all GTV6), but judging by the angle of the steering wheel i guess that there has to be done some modification to the steering. Either a quick steering kit or a de-powered rack of a 75TS. Would be awesome if you can comment back on that since I am kinda looking at my options for my GTV6 right now. Nice driving, nice car :) love it

  • @jakemargaliesracing
    @jakemargaliesracing Жыл бұрын

    Hi Chris, no there's no PAS, it's just a standard GTV6 steering rack. My dad has another GTV6 race car which has got a 75 Power Steering setup, hopefully we'll get some on board footage in that next year and you'll be able to see him steering one handed 😂😂

  • @Automotive_Passionista
    @Automotive_Passionista Жыл бұрын

    I shall be corrected then 😅. I just thought it looks like you require less steering angle to go around corners than normally on a GTV6 (because their steering is known to be craazy long/ slow ratio) This is actually the reason I am thinking of putting the 75 rack in there - I would like to loop the lines tho because Powersteering takes away some response time and feedback. Do you know if the rack swap can be done with the engine still in? (I got the later chassis 1985) Thanks :)

  • @jakemargaliesracing
    @jakemargaliesracing Жыл бұрын

    @@Automotive_Passionista the only main difference is steering wheel size and it's spaced more to the driver by about 20-30mm. A friend of mine has just been swapping steering racks out of his car with the engine in, I think it's a bit fiddly but do-able.

  • @Automotive_Passionista
    @Automotive_Passionista Жыл бұрын

    Love it - thanks for the response. I am also driving with 330mm wheel and spacer. But the steering is heavy because I drive 205/50/15 nangkang ar1. Hopefully I will sort out my steering column play and if so I will report back whether the job is doable with the engine in or not (has to be because I have no lift) cheers and much fun with your and your dads car next season again :))
