    This was one of the major missed opportunities with the Vamp. This whole back section should have been modular like this. Remove the turret and use the back as a storage trunk or additional seating for Joes. As much as the Vamp was praised, it missed a lot of play/display features.

    Thank you. I have this figure and love it. Way better than Sideshow and these aren't meant to be Hot Toys. They're cartoon-accurate representations and for the price, they're great. Very happy with mine. You seem REALLY hard on the figure. "When comparing this to Hot Toys Batman... " SMH comparing 150 to 400 dollar figure. "Let me start with the negatives.." Nothing positive said for 40 minutes

    thank you for watching. Actually, when I compared it to the Hot Toys The Batman, what I pointed out was that this figure did it one better. That Hot Toys figure really bummed me out. I actually edited in, badly, a few things I discovered as I futzed with the figure that actually shows how my opinion turned around like the fabric used on the cape. I still think that the value of this product is very high and can be easily enjoyed but I can't help it that when I talk about the cons it is going to sound negative. If you have the sideshow version I would be curious to see a side by side comparison.

    @@user-vs7ei7kw9i I did mention stormshadow's thinner fabric which I think works really well for this scale. It folds more naturally. I mentioned that I wished they had used some similar fabric for cobra commander. For the cape's fabric, I originally didn't like it but I inserted an edit which should have actually shown that my opinion turned around as I played with it more. I did consider re-shooting the whole video with the new opinion. But I went with a insert edit to highlight how my opinion changed. I wonder if that was the wrong choice.

    Thank you for watching and commenting. I actually endorse buying this product once the 1989 Batwing comes out. The combined units make for a great diorama. The only reason I didn't buy it initially was that I don't collect 3 3/4 figures AND the scale itself didn't fit within Spinmaster's movie batman line. IF it had fit the previous The Batman line, it would have greatly expanded the value of the line.

    Great in-depth review as always! With your over-riding feeling of Orko being too big, I would like to offer up a couple of alternative perspectives that one could take on this. Firstly is the idea that surely Mondo should take some liberties with scale for their own take on these characters, and for smaller characters it makes sense to make them a bit bigger than they perhaps 'should' be, in order to create a better value product for the likely fixed minimum price point that Mondo need to hit? Secondly, by your logic Beastman and He-Man 'should' be the same scale too right? As they were a similar size in filmation, the original vintage line, and MOTU Classics. Yet off the top of my head, I don't recall you mentioning that Beastman was too big in your review of him. I would have thought your logic should be consistent when it comes to critiquing how different figure's scale with each other when liberties are taken with scale on many of Mondo's own designs. Either it's always wrong, or it's never wrong, as opposed to it sometimes being wrong.

  • @amusedjester
    @amusedjesterАй бұрын

    Thank you for watching. You're quite correct. Even as I prefer the Orko "accessory" to the actual Orko, I thought myself that the simplistic and cartoonish design would clash with Mondo's design. It was quite a puzzle to determine how I would resolve the issue of "scale" in my mind. I think I wasn't quite referring to scaling them as they were in the cartoons but as how they should scale towards each other. For Beastman, I am glad that they shrunk it down a little from the first photo release but it is much bigger than a regular Mondo figure. But in Beastman's case, Mondo won me over with their design, product and logic. Beastman, by name, should be bigger, almost hulking and have that "beast-like" appearance. With Orko, I still see him as an adolescent apprentice. Not that he is in the cartoons' it's just his behavior and actions made him that way to me. And when you pose him side by side with a Mondo figure he is just slightly too big for me. One thing, I have been thinking on is the robe. If the cloth part of the robe were not there and the figure ended at the vest; I think that actually works better for me. But, you can't hide the robe under the vest because that exposes the folded legs of the figure. In the end, I think it will "grow" on me. Get it? Hahaha.

  • @nicholashill8724
    @nicholashill8724Ай бұрын

    @@amusedjester Haha, yes, what you say makes sense! By adding these extra features to Orko, such as the legs, they were forced to make him bigger, but then that also works out better from a value perspective. Mondo's take on the character is definitely a more serious design compared to the cartoon, but it fits in better with the line as a whole. Will you be getting the deluxe Scareglow and Scare-Mare? Mondo showed off a prototype of each of them at the recent Monsterpalooza event.

  • @amusedjester
    @amusedjesterАй бұрын

    @@nicholashill8724 It's not on the basic fund list that I had allocated for Mondo but OMG are they not gorgeous? BUT if I get Scareglow with Scaremare, I would have to get Swiftwind. Two things that may convince me more is the final paint app for both and how the wings can be folded on Scaremare. They're beautiful spread out but I'm desperate on space right now. How about you?

    Thank you for watching. I don't know why your comment didn't register to my usual place. But to answer your question; these are 7 inches. I don't think it has a proper scale designation. These would line up with the McFarlane figures. Scale tends to be different from companies. I have found RC vehicles that are 1/10 scale that these figures fit perfectly into, while 1/12 vehicles are too small for hasbro's joes or marvel figures.

    There seems to be a varnish on the purple fur area of the Panthor heads, but not on the green/yellow fur area of the Battle Cat heads. As a result, the Battle Cat heads tend to pop more, and have more of a 'painted statue' look to them, and the Panthor heads still look very good but not quite as good to me. I wonder if this new gloss/varnish that Mondo are applying to their figures is to decrease paint chipping? I noticed you pointing this out in another review where you compared Deluxe Skeletor's paint to Hordak's paint; it was a semi-gloss vs completely matte finish.

  • @amusedjester
    @amusedjester2 ай бұрын

    Thank you for watching. Yes, Mondo has changed their paint application after the He-man deluxe. It's a little bit more shinier but it feels less prone to scuffing and paint damage. And Panthor does have a sheen to it's body compared to Battlecat.

  • @nicholashill8724
    @nicholashill87242 ай бұрын

    @@amusedjester Do you prefer the sheen? I wonder whether the sheen from the varnish is to protect the paint on the hinges, as the He-Man loses all the paint on the hinges of the elbows/knees once you move the arms and legs a bit and all the paint scrapes off. Whereas the Deluxe Skeletor, the paint on the hinges possibly stays there longer and matches the paint on the arms and legs to help hide those joints a bit better? I think they changed the paint at the point when they changed the bases from the old Mondo base to the new cracked earth oval bases, and they removed the magnets from the boxes and replaced with velcro. The first Trap Jaw release does not have a sheen on him and he comes with the old base and box magnets, and he was released after Deluxe H-Man. I think Prince Adam has the old base too, so this change seems to have occurred post-Prince Adam and pre-Deluxe Skeletor, Beastman and Panthor. However I do not have Beastman myself yet so I cannot tell if he has the sheen on him, he does have textured hinges though which looks cool. You mentioned in your Beastman review that he looks much better in person than through the camera, so I am looking forward to a Beastman figure when I finally get him so that I can understand better what you are referring to. 🙂

It's not until you have them side by side that you see the value of each product. The funny thing that people don't yet realize is that Todd McFarlane, himself, acknowledges this because he sells the same figure/configuration still at the $20 mark. Why does Todd see some figures at $20 and some at $30? Because he can, that's it. Take it from Todd, the horse's mouth; People buy Batman figures, so he keeps making Batman figures. If people buy his figures for $30, he'll keep selling them for $30.

    @@amusedjester Not only that but most of the collectors edition figures are brand new molds. So he's squeezing the customer for that up from so he can reissue them Later. A series that you could have also included was the WWE ultimate editions. 7 inch scale figures, three alternate heads minimum, six hands, title belt, and soft goods. I feel that if Big Daddy Todd included this stuff his collector's edition would be worth it.

    @@indarkestknight1 I'm not a wrestling fan but sometimes when I see that line I'm tempted to buy it. It's by Mattel and I'm still confounded why they couldn't do the same when they had the DC license.

    @@indarkestknight1 I agree. At the $35 or even $30 price, a lot of Super7 faults could be ignored and would have been the best one. Honestly, Neca is the top for me. It's a shame that their subject figures aren't totally in my area of collection. But for the price and what you get from Neca, it's hard to find something to complain.

    Marvel select is the best line for me based on what you get for the price .

    Thank you for watching. For the $30 price range, I agree. Marvel Select still has it's faults though. The Thing was released in 2010, so it took them 14 years to finish FF. Neca figures are slightly higher at $40 but the jump in quality is substantial, I think.

    @@amusedjester hasbro hasnt finished many teams either the whole time they have had the license . Yea i like neca but all their making now is tmnt stuff which i dont buy so they pretty much have lost me as a customer the last year or so . But you have to compare license with license so for me select is better than marvel legends especially now . Every toy line has issues .

    Thank you for watching. I agree, that's why it took me more than 10 years to add it to my collection. Ironically, if it weren't for the rapid proliferation of McFarlane dc multiverse line in my collection, I never would have gone solidly into a 7 inch line.

    Great discussion my problem with McFarlane products there's never any extra hands and all his figures have way too big wrist and ankle pegs & the flesh tone paints he uses are cheap please DC give your license to another company .

    Thank you for watching. Or how about Robin being as tall as Batman; figures with a bad sense of scale? Or paying 30 on a gold collector edition and having the back side unpainted? As collectors/supporters of the McF DC line from the beginning a lot of these little faults were overlooked because of his cheaper price but they can't be at $30. Not when his competitors are producing far better value. And his motto is more accurate as, " I HOLD the DC license, if you don't like it then don't buy it."

    @@amusedjester your right. its a conversation that needs to be had. Plus everything you said I could've not said it any better as you put it. I will never support MacFarlane products he's always overly selling himself like a con- artist and not always delivering like he suppose to for example the new spawn movie. It's like I mentioned earlier it makes no sense to pay for something and your getting less than compared to the other companies example no extra hands or head sculpts.

Then, if people wanted to stick around to see the process. I did a 10x speed through. Check that that out and tell me if that's a better format and thanks for the input.
