Tactical Newbie

Tactical Newbie

Welcome to Tactical Newbie! The channel where a newbie like me gets into all things tactical. My goal is to provide an interactive exploration into the tactical community from the perspective of a civilian newcomer.

Overall this channel is meant to offer an interactive look at the good, bad and ugly aspects of the tactical space from the perspective of a true tactical newbie.

The videos on the channel will showcase me incrementally improving my tactical knowledge and incorporating all that I learn into my day to day life as well as building a community of tactical minded individuals both experienced or inexperienced to join together and share tricks of the trade or just to chat it up some.

The main purpose of this channel is to show people that it's never too late to start your own tactical journey, furthermore proving that the tactical community is not only reserved for the experts.

    Think this is compatible with any of the idogear backpanels?

  • @TacticalNewbie101
    @TacticalNewbie1016 сағат бұрын

    Thanks for the comment! I think it depends on the IDOGEAR panel but I would lean more to the idea that it's very unlikely at least for the Ferro FCPC or PETAC Clone. All the knock off manufacturers have a decent variety of Crye or knock off JPC 2.0 compatibility but Ferro has a slightly different configuration so the zippers don't line up. I would stick to Krydex, PETAC or Emmerson Gear if you want something that is likely compatible.

    @@TacticalNewbie101 Your welcome and I appreciate your response. I think the petac gear fcpc looks like a good clone for bout less than the price of the real thing except some minor differences in the way the tegris and the fabric is designed. I think I once recall saying that this plate carrier may be my go to a few years ago but I didnt know a lot or wasnt as knowlegable in kit. The plate carrier is probably great for airsoft or a milsim event but I guess for hard use it may not be as quality compared to the ferro concepts. Anyway, excuse all my yapping, but I would like to see a review on the Idogear CPC oneday, it gets some mixed reviews here and there but I want to see what you think about the plate carrier. Anyways your really killing it with the content that you make, the reviews that you do are honest and you give your perspective on a ton of gear :) Keep it up!

    Thanks for the comment and criticism. Even though myself and other fans of the channel will likely not agree with your opinion I am always open to the critique! Running a KZread channel is a fine balance between a combination of being informative, entertaining and engaging. There are certainly channels out there that get right to the "Brass Tacks" and provide immediate information in a quick and efficient fashion. My channel is not that which is why I try to integrate movie cut scenes and a generally longer run format that is a bit longer than the (10-15min) standard for a lot of videos on KZread. This only being my 2nd year doing KZread I am certainly still ironing out the kinks in the filming, formats, segments and engagement. It's a work in progress and I will certainly take your critique into consideration as it pertains to runtime. My only recommendation would be that before you lob critique at other KZread channels and content creators it might be a good idea to maybe put yourself out there and make a few videos on your own channel. It's generally those who "do not do" that tend to offer the most negative or trolling criticism with little understanding into all that goes into filming, editing, posting, engaging and improving a KZread channel. But thanks again for the critique even if it might come from a place of little understanding 🤷

    @@TacticalNewbie101 I never wanted to be a content creator. I didn't start a channel; KZread did that over 20 years ago. I also don't understand the need to drag a subject out to the point that the viewer regrets choosing a video. It's KZread, not the Discovery Channel. As the old saying goes "Piss, or get off the pot". I didn't mean to offend. I just don't have the time to waste on unnecessary things. I wish you luck, but I am like the overwhelming majority of people who just want to see the facts. Not necessarily the fluff used as a time killer.

    Trust me when I say that I am certainly not offended in the slightest my friend, you are not the first to personally not like my content and you definitely won't be the last. But as for the majority of KZreadrs being "like you"; I can say without a doubt that you are definitely not the majority (especially in the "Tactical KZread" niche/ space) and my consistent sub growth, huge subscriber support (Thanks guys for the constant support!) and decently above average like to view ratios on these "budget build" videos would certainly suggest otherwise. Is my channel the most popular on KZread? Well no, of course not and that is not my intention. But it's certainly not the worst and least popular content on KZread so I gotta be doing something somewhat right with this format so far. By all means if you don't have the time to watch a 30min first person prospective "budget build" video then you can certainly go find videos and channels more in line with your straight to the point "shit or get off the pot" expectations. While you personally might find my content and run times "an unnecessary waste of time" that is definitively not the case for my subscribers who do enjoy my content (regardless how long the run time might be for some videos). I made mention to you making a few KZread videos simply on the basis that it is very easy to criticize when you don't actually know what you are talking about. It's easy to sit back and watch other people's hard work just to come in as a random spectator who likely doesn't follow the content regularly and tell them that just because it wasn't your cup of tea that the entire format has to change. This format helped build the channel to where I am today 1.5 years in. When my loyal subscribers don't want to see this type of content anymore and it's reflected in the view count and ratios, then I will reformat for them as most successful KZread channels do from time to time. Thanks again for the comment, definitely helps with the algorithm!

    Thanks for the comment! I will absolutely be doing a Low Budget Update for the Tacticon Armament Battle Vest Elite and Battle Belt Elite slated for around late August or early to mid September. I try to schedule these update videos close to or around the year mark to the date of when I initially debuted the original Low Budget Loadout video. I know it seems like a long way off but I do have some fun videos lined up featuring some real steel, a new Low Budget Loadout feature, a Gucci Gear battle belt build and showcase and some other Tactical DIY and Tactical Training videos scheduled for the immediate future. Hopefully those videos will keep you entertained for the next few weeks leading up to the Update video for the Tacticon Armament gear. I do definitely agree with your criticisms of the gear as I do share similar criticisms. I also agree with your overall rating of the gear. It's definitely a 9.5 for sure on the "budget gear" rating but the true test will be when compared to the Agilite K-19 which will also be a video I will be featuring in the near future! • @TacticalNewbie101

    Thanks for the comment. What exactly makes an airsoft holster an airsoft holster? This holster holds the Glock 19x airsoft pistol no different than the Glock 19x real steel pistol. Is there a difference in quality to this holster compared to the legit Safariland holster? Well yes. But for those who are just getting involved in the tactical space (or on a budget) and want something Safariland like that doesn't cost $250+ dollars for a holster, well this is a perfect option. Don't let the "TactIcool influencers" fool you on the "more expensive is always better" logic. This holster can perfectly serve the purpose it's intended to (especially for those that may need something ASAP while saving up for the legit Safariland).

    @@TacticalNewbie101 more heavy duty, better grip for your firearm lock fits in, heat, and better material. Like the rating for firearm and airsoft is different. You are ready to battle, it going bang on optical, rolling on the ground, draw it in and out after shooting intensively, the last thing you want to worry about is your holster cant hold up it, because it meant to airsoft, you are you complaining at that time. You. Other stuff i dont mind but holster and the belt must be perfect and secure. You are talking about battlefield gear here. And this is just my opinion, for me it a must

    So you don't run, jump, roll around, crawl, draw in and out multiple times after shooting intensely in airsoft? Don't get me wrong, I will never claim these holsters are duty rated or good enough to take to legitimate battle. But..... Airsoft for the most part is a pretty physically demanding war game that generally is more physically demanding in nature than any run of the mill day at the range. So if it's good enough for the physically demanding gameplay of airsoft I think its safe to say it's good enough for any normal Joe just starting out to train with at the range while they save up for the Gucci upgrade. I'm not telling guys this holster is better than Safariland. But.... This holster is better then having no holster to start with while they save up for the perfect duty rated holster that they will likely only use at the range and maybe if they are serious enough use some more extensively in firearms training with an instructor.

    No offense dude but don't presume or pretend like you have any clue as to the intentionality of my channel or my videos. It's my channel and my videos so the only person who has any idea as to the intention is me. Period. The channel is legit called "Tactical Newbie" which is about as obvious an example that the aim of the channel is for those who are not necessarily "tactical professionals" or "experts". The segment is called "Low Budget Loadout" which again is a super obvious example of a segment designed as the title entails (to build a LOW BUDGET LOADOUT). if your goal is to see more high end milspec gear feel free to take a look at my Gucci Gear segments or feel free to go watch Garand Thumb, Administrative Results, Dirty Civilian etc. Don't mean any disrespect but your criticisms are from far left field and totally off base. I recommend watching more of my videos before you assume you know who or to what audience my channel is directed to. Hope you understand. Side note. Tactical Gear is not just used for warfare. There are a ton of guys on KZread and other social media who use gear for the primary purpose of training. Low Budget Loadout is a segment for the average guy who might be on a budget but wants to get started with tactical training/ gear. Obviously anyone who is in law enforcement or the military is not going to be concerned about buying budget gear for training.

    Thanks for the comment! So far my belt is holding up fairly well but I would definitely be the first person to admit that a good portion of "budget" belts are generally best utilized as a starter belt before going Gucci or a back up belt to something more Gucci. It really is a balancing act when dealing with budget gear. The biggest thing to take into consideration should generally be how much does someone plan on using a budget belt/ gear and to what degree of training ( low damage instances like dry fire and normal range training vs something a bit more hardcore like shooting or tactical competitions, milsim events, multi day training seminars or actual duty use). If someone has the funds and can afford a more Gucci set up that is certainly the best option. But if money is tight and they want to get out there and train ASAP go budget to start IMO.

    Thanks for the comment! Yea unfortunately that's one of the struggles with Gucci gear, there is a high possibility that specific items (especially popular selling items) sell out very quickly or are generally out of stock for a significant portion of the year. The best suggestion I can offer is to start out with the budget gear and slowly upgrade as the items become available. That way your not in need of something and desperately waiting for it to arrive or be back in stock. Especially in this specific comparison where the "budget version" isn't significantly much different from the Gucci in quality.

I wasn't thinking initially when I started it plus the way I mount my camera for recording these POV shots it literally blocks most of my vision directly in front of me so it makes anything I do when recording way harder cause I basically can't see in front of me. Not making any excuses or anything just a little behind the scenes when I do DIY videos or budget builds I am basically doing it with limited view of the thing I'm working on. You can see it in some of the videos where I am fumbling around by touch to find a tool directly in front of me on the table lol. You are absolutely right though, as soon as I loosen'ed the first screw the second screw set perfect.

I eventually do want to get some hesco's in my set up (they are sooooo expensive but great reputation) but currently I am only running foam because this loadout is still in the transition of being fully set up. My current SHTF Loadout is a more a budget friendly set up (Redemption Tactical Ranger Green) and I'm running their level 4 ceramic plates for that setup. This Ferro Loadout will be taking its place when it's all finished (plate carrier and battle belt). Just takes a while cause the "Gucci" gear is a tad more on the pricey side. The dangler is the only piece of gear that isn't Ferro on the Loadout. It's the Spiritus Systems MK3 SACK pouch.

I used sticky Velcro for the knife I added to the Krydex clone of this set up. It was so much easier to set up and is just as reliable. If anything the Velcro sticks better IMO.

The plate carrier is the Ferro Concepts Slickster The drop punch/ dangler is the Spiritus Systems Sack Pouch Mk3 The placard is the Ferro Concepts DOPE Flap The rear med pouch is the Ferro Concepts Roll one That's a complete breakdown of everything. The plate bags are large (10.5x 13.5) and the biggest Ferro Concepts offers. Since you're obviously a "vest" aka plate carrier expert, how big should I go exactly? I am intrigued to hear your professional expertise on what size is "going to protect" everything.

    You have no clue what you’re talking about. It’s meant to protect the vitals. It’s pretty much the perfect size for him. You measure plate carriers by the plate size. measure nipple to nipple and right under the notch in your clavicle to 2-4 inches above your belly button, and that will give you your plate size. Just cause you wear an XL shirt doesn’t mean you’ll need to buy a XL carrier. It’s supposed to stop rounds from hitting your lungs and your heart, not cover your whole torso.

    Thanks for the comment! Yea Krydex does make some really awesome gear for sure. That's one of the main reasons I decided to do Tactical Gear Comparisons is because companies like Krydex make good budget clone gear for a cheaper price and I felt like I had to do videos on it. Especially since there are not very many tactical KZreadrs doing it.

    I bought the Petac shoulder pads and I feel like the padding is almost non existent, are the farro shoulder pads better or have more padding?

  • @TacticalNewbie101
    @TacticalNewbie101Ай бұрын

    Thanks for the comment! The padding on shoulder pads varies based on the brand and manufacturer. The PETAC pads are almost a direct one for one copy of the OG Ferro version. Padding and all. I think Ferro's approach to their pads is more of a slicker less bulky shoulder pad. So ultimately there is less padding overall compared to other thicker pads

    Another way to repack the dump pouch: 1 - Fold the sides inwards, one side at a time, 1/4 of a fold so that each half ends up resting above the pull tab 'spine'. 2 - Tuck draw string/cord lock and top end of pouch, into the elastic pouch body. ( This keeps everything from popping back open/unfolding. ) 3 - From the bottom of the folded pouch, fold upwards toward the pouch body, to the point just above where the pouches pull strap is sewn to the pouch. 4 - Make a 'Z' fold of the pouch, making it the general size of the pouch body. 5 - Simply fold and stuff into the elastic body of the pouch, leaving about an inch or so of the pull strap sticking out to allow for quick and easy deployment. ( I know this would be much easier to follow if there was an accompanying video! 😁) Hope this helps!

    It's nice to see these things compared to each other, wouldn't have known the size of plate bags was a medium on the krydex. There is a difference between these knock offs in the quality of the camo patterns and the color of their ranger green with reports that the IR signatures not are unlike "light bulbs". The industry has been moving toward composite materials like squadron and hypalon that are light weight and have extreme durability. Do you have any plans to purchase gear made from squadron or hypalon [a chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSPE) synthetic rubber (CSM)]?

  • @TacticalNewbie101
    @TacticalNewbie101Ай бұрын

    Thanks for the comment and regular support! I agree that there are of course slight differences in quality and material when comparing the Gucci vs the Budget. Aside from labor the budget gear manufacturer will definitely find ways to cut cost on some material and patterns. But for some the more budget friendly price may be a perfect price point for them to start the "gearing up" process and use that gear for training until they can eventually get the Gucci gear. I will honestly have to look into the CSM and CSPE composite materials and review. I have seen some rumblings about "composite materials" but haven't given it much attention until now. Thanks for the comment, critique and support! It's always appreciated!!

What is holding me back at the present moment is the recording equipment (on body and rifle) needed to be able to film good quality airsoft gameplay. The only recording I currently use for all of my videos is 2 different cellphones and a video editing app. Once I expand on better recording equipment and learn more about video editing or hire an editor (hopefully one day) it will definitely be something I will want to do videos on for sure. Thanks for the comment. The only size available for the V5 is medium plate bags (10x12 plates). The carrier itself is fully adjustable for a wide range of sizes. I'm 6'1 250 and it fits me fine size wise. Only complaint is the 10x12 plate bags
